I had the same problem it took me nearly a week solid to get it all working.
The problem is the default kernel for Mandrake 10 - which when I installed
was the 25.6.x variety. This doesn't support the speedtouch bundle - you
need to use one of the 25.4.x varieties these do and then it should work.

I tried a load of the methods detailed online and this is the one that
finally worked:

The howto is written by Sylvain Trias, Edouard Gomez & Bernard Brandi

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/speedtouch/speedtouch/doc-linux/howto/SpeedTouch-HOWTO-en.html?rev=1.3

this was the one that got me up and running....

Good luck

Cheers, tried that already though to no avail ( must have messed up
somewhere)
Did you have to alter the kernel? I have heard if you make a change to one
file it works anyway?

No, there is an rpm for the old kernel on the discs - install that &
configure lilo to offer it as an option - then I choose to boot into that
and am waiting until the speedtouch bundle works with 2.6.x variety
kernels...
