Hi,

My system has been working fine for ages. Now I cant use fetchmail to
download from pop.freeserve.com, and also I cant send emails to
smtp.freeserve.com.

Anybody else had any problems?

I havent upgraded or changed any settings, it just stopped working for some
reason.

Nathan

I have had no problems with it?

Admittedly I use kmail for email and not send and fetch.

all I can think off of the top of my head is firewall setting or a kernel
upgrade or something.

If you use KDE, try kmail as a test, or Can you telnet into it?

I use pop and smtp.freeserve.com

For the last few days, there have been problems with connections going
through the "buffalo lns watford access point". When connected via that,
connections to the webcache servers work ok, but most external routing
doesn't. If you are connected and in that session you are only using
web and email, you'll notice that the smtp/pop3 isn't working..

Is this your problem ? I'd report it, but I don't know where, and I'm
not phoning their costly number to report a network problem with their
equipment!

When connected, do a traceroute to somewhere external and see how far
you get. On the problem connection, you only get this:

Hostname %Loss Rcv Snt Last Best Avg Worst
1. buffalo.lns.watford.access.planet.n 0% 5 5 99 94 100 110
2. ge7-0.3.lettuce.as5388.net 0% 5 5 99 97 99 100
3. ???

Or in IP terms:

Hostname %Loss Rcv Snt Last Best Avg Worst
1. 195.92.66.185 0% 3 3 99 96 98 99
2. 195.92.66.2 0% 3 3 99 98 99 99
3. ???

I restarted my firewall, and it seems to be connecting now.Sending email
works fine, but using fetchmail is slow to respond. It times out after
300secs and then says no email to download (which is correct). Going to send
a test email, and see wheter it can pick that up.

Wierd thing is that my windoze box could connect fine. My linux server
(gateway to the internet) couldn't connect or even telnet in.

It is still slow to check for email, but working. Still times out after
300secs and then works again. I have reported this to Freeserve/Wanadoo,
using their "email us" option on the website. But no response yet !!!

Thanks for the ideas :)

Nathan
