I made the mistake of subscribing to newsgroups using my proper email
address. I am now receiving a fair bit of spam. I notice a lot of you insert
"nospam" or somesuch into your addresses. I should have done this but didn`t
know any better. I have tried to change my log-in address but can`t work out
how to. How can I alter my settings to insert a decoy word into my address
at this late stage?

TIA
Vince

And don't use commonly used words like 'NOSPAM', or 'REMOVE', and these
words are removed automatically by the e-mail marketeers.

Thanks for your help- this is a test mailing, firstly to see if I configured
things correctly, secondly to solicit opinions as to whether this disguise
will be effective-any opinions?
TIA

It''s fine, as long as you've registered the domain name
"winkyukonline.co.uk".

If not, anyone could register that domain name tomorrow and ask your
ISP to terminate your account on the grounds that you're using it
without permission.

Regards, Mike.

You have to make sure some one can work out your real email address if
you want people to contact you. If you don't want anyone to email
you, then put in gibberish like mine. Although it's still easy enough
to work out my real email address from the headers.

You may (or may not) be interested to know that your "gibberish" e-mail
address is actually a valid one!!

Reply address IS valid but not my primary mailbox.

Do not do this ..... insert invalid characters if anything, as this way you
will not accidentally use a valid domain such as nospam.com which a lot of
people use.

Simply enter an address such as mymail@]-[otmail.com or email@}-{otmail.com
for example.
It contains invalid characters and won't stomp all over someone's domain.

Or get a throw-away account from Hotmail where you can filter spam into a
bulk mail box for automatic deletion.

Anyone else got any interesting invalid characters that would look good?

Why do do think that "ma...@nospam.com" is "gibberish"? It's a
perfectly valid email address owned by Anything.com Ltd in Grand
Cayman.

You do have permission to use their address, I hope? Or did you think
that an obvious domain name like like wouldn't have been registered?

Vincent, just stick .invalid at the end of a 'bogus' address.

I'll bet you a Linux CD (A real one, not RedHat) that someone has the
address you've placed in this posting.
