Water Softener info???
Ron
you live there you will know that the water that comes out of the tap is
full of chalk. Under the sink is a device that is a water softener. It
has a notice on it that is partly worn which says "use ????? salt" and that
is it. No name or anything else. I have no instructions for it and haven't
a clue how to use it. It is a white tank about 12 inches by 12 inches by 24
inches with what appears to be a an electric motor on top of it. There is an
inlet and outlet hose connected to the water pipe, an overflow pipe that
goes through the wall and an outlet pipe similar to the water outlet of a
washing machine.
The house was built in 1984 and it could have been installed then.
Does anyone recognise it and have the instructions for it?

not my field, our water is hard (limestone) but never bothered with
softeners,
i can't stand that slimy soft water !!

Zeolites are a group of hydrous aluminium silicate minerals, containing

The advent of cation exchange resins has largely replaced zeolite in this
application, but the minerals are still widely used as filtering agents and
catalysts in many industrial processes.
In fact the uses of zeolites is increasing at a substantial rate, as
advantage is being taken of their filtering ability in a wide range of
pollution control applications. They are used for odour control in waste
materials and for removing unwanted wastes in effluents from agricultural
and industrial processes.
Extensive deposits of zeolites occur near Werris Creek in the north-west of
NSW are being mined and processed to a range of value-added products.
