The new standards are Georgia-developed. They were drafted by mathematics teachers in Georgia with input from educational leaders, parents, students, business and industry leaders, and community members. They are designed to provide a strong foundation, to be clear and understandable, and to present a reasonable amount of content in each year.

HD Word has 33 units (weeks), each with five daily lessons. Lessons are designed to be completed in 15-20 minute sessions. In one week, students are immersed in 75-100 minutes of explicit foundational skills instruction.

Special Education students oftentimes go to intervention classes in place of arts classes (technology, art, music, etc). The same also applies to students performing below grade-level in math and reading. This can mean a missed opportunity for engaging these students in a meaningful way.

I have found that one of the most difficult aspects of supervising a STEAM lesson is providing additional wait time, allowing my students to productively struggle, and ignoring my instinct to suggest a given strategy. For instance, remind your students of the tools that they have around the classroom. Encourage them to communicate their ideas or questions to a partner. However, try to avoid jumping in with guided assistance or additional prompting the moment your students begin to struggle. Having a discussion with your class afterwards about the challenges they faced and what they liked about this type of lesson can help them process it as they may be new to this STEAM approach.

This approach to learning is certainly not an easy task, but the benefits to students and the entire school community are tremendous. Students and teachers engaged in STEAM make more real-life connections so that school is not a place where you go to learn but instead becomes the entire experience of learning itself. We are always learning, always growing, always experimenting.

The 12th General Hospital Collection is comprised of the papers of Michael L. Mason, James A. Conner, and Paul Raber who served as part of Northwestern University's 12th General Hospital Unit stationed in North Africa and Italy during World War II.

This is artificial collection arranged into three main series. Each series comprises a separate collection donated by a member of the 12th General Hospital: James Conner, Michael Mason, and Paul Raber. The decision was made to create one artificial collection encompassing all materials related to the 12th General Hospital because some of the Conner and Mason materials were not marked after initial accession. We believe that all materials have been arranged in the appropriate series, but due to this missing link in the chain of custody, we cannot be entirely certain

Documents that contain patient health information are housed in separate folders within each series and are restricted.

The University Archives acquired the Michael Mason papers in two accessions: #85-116 (separations from General Hospital No. 12 records) donated on June 19, 1985 by Dr. Ernest McEwen, and #88-97 (separations from the Frank and Claudine Mason papers) donated on May 3, 1988 by Claudine V. Mason. It is inferred that Galter Library received the Mason 12th General Hospital materials that had been a part of these larger donations during the 1980s. The James A. Conner materials were donated by his son, Jim Conner, in 2007 and 2016. The Paul A. Raber items were donated by Raber in 1993.

The regiment arrived at Chickamauga on the 20th of May and was ordered to set up at Camp George H. On November 13th the regiment departed Lexington for Americus, GA where a new camp was set up. On December 26th the 12th Regiment left camp en route for Cuba, where it arrived on the 1st of January 1899 and took up garrison duty at Matanzas and Cardenas. While the topic of study will vary from student to student, the overall goal of 12th grade social studies instruction is to develop historical and geographic awareness. Not every 12th grader will take a science course, but for any student who may potentially be considering science as a college major or future career, it is important to take at least 3 science courses during high school.
