The fi-7240 additionally makes use of an ultrasonic sensor that accurately detects multi-feed errors where two or more sheets are fed through the scanner at once plus intelligent multi-feed function that is designed for documents that intentionally feature paper attachments of defined sizes or locations such as sticky notes or photos. The scanner can automatically recognise the location of the attachment and will then exclude that zone from triggering alert conditions

The fi-7240 comes bundled with PaperStream IP, an integrated scanner driver and image enhancement module that is built on TWAIN/ISIS standards offering user friendly operability, intuitive high quality image creation and real time processing that will benefit post scan routines like OCR.

Also bundled is PaperStream Capture which is an easy to use capture tool which allows users to easily create batch scanning profiles which encapsulate all of the settings and configuration required to control the scanning process from scan, to the release of the image to the users normal work flow. Once created, batch profiles can be run by a single click or can be linked to scanner front panel buttons to streamline the whole capture process.

The Fujitsu fi-7240 duplex scanner is equipped with an 80-sheet automatic document feeder as well as with an A4 flatbed unit. It is a fast, reliable and user-friendly document scanner and is designed for handling various everyday scanning tasks in an office.

Features

With the bundled PaperStream IP driver, image quality is optimised upon capture. Additionally the Fujitsu fi-7240 comes with two software packages designed for either regular or occasional use: PaperStream Capture and ScanSnap Manager for fi Series.

PaperStream Capture is easy to use batch scan software which manages scan profiles, indexes, sorts and releases documents. ScanSnap Manager for fi-series allows ad-hoc scanning and can be used to scan in PDF or JPEG format, but also to generate Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from your scanned documents. Like all fi Series models, the Fujitsu fi-7240 includes a remote administration tool for managing several scanners (driver and software update management, consumables management, maintenance, etc.).

Performance

With a speed of 40 pages / min (colour, greyscale or black and white), its 80-sheet automatic document feeder and ultrasonic double feed detection, the Fujitsu fi-7240 is the perfect scanner for all everyday scanning tasks. Fujitsu fi-7140 is capable of scanning documents from 27 to 413 g/m2 including plastic cards, and even documents up to A3 can be scanned folded in half using a protective carrier sheet. The integrated DIN A4 flatbed unit provides even more flexibility and can be used to scan fragile, stapled or bound documents.

The fi-7240 automatically detect the document size when scanning a mixed size batch. Furthermore, it is equipped with Skew Reducer to detect the alignment of scanned documents and correct paper skews to minimize missing the edge of the scanned image. Users can rest assured that the result will be good even when scanning documents that are not aligned correctly.

The PaperSteam IP scanner driver, which supports TWAIN/ISIS, saves the inconvenience of fine adjusting the settings for the OCR process. It automatically converts the images into exceptionally clean images, accelerating OCR even when scanning wrinkled or soiled documents or documents with a background pattern.

Attach the Black Document Pad to the flatbed to make scans with a black background. This enables the scanner to apply image processing like size detection and skew correction to a document scanned with the flatbed so that the resulting image data is properly sized to the original.

Carrier Sheets allow you to scan documents, photos or clippings larger than A4 size. Documents larger than A4 (such as A3 or B4) or photos and clippings that can be damaged easily can be digitized when using the Carrier Sheets. Carrier Sheets (5 sheets per set) can be purchased separately. (The Carrier Sheet should be replaced approximately every 500 scans)

After upgrade from F35 to F36 xsane is not able to detect the multi-function printer/fax/scanner HP LaserJet M2727nf any more.

This is independent of whether I connect the scanner via LAN or via USB.

Typically it is connected via LAN with a fix local IP 192.168.xx.yy. USB connection was for test only.

The printer part is working, i.e. I can print on that device.

Re-installation of printer + fax via hp-setup and hp-plugin did not help.

Another computer in the same network still running F35 is detecting the identical M2727nf scanner and scanning works from there.

Another scanner, a Fujitsu fi-7240 connected via USB is detected by xsane, before and after migration to F36.

Same situation with F36 but a differnt HP scanner in another location connected via VPN.

With the default hplip installation on fedora you can run hp-plugin and install the scanner plugin.

If you have installed hplip-gui (available from the fedora repo) then you can also use the HPLIP Graphical Tools gui and select to install/update the plugin there.

I typically run hp-plugin manually as you described to get printer and scanner working again. This is necessary quite frequently after Fedora updates.

(I still do not know what kind of updates really break the printer / scanner functionality, but this is another topic.)

This time however, it does not help for the scanner to be detected again.

You should see at least hplip and libsane-hpaio (and possibly hplip-gui) in that output. If not then you should install those missing packages. Libsane-hpaio is required (in addition to the plugin) for sane to access the hp MFP scanner.

How did you define the printer? Did you use the HP tools or did you allow avahi to automatically define it?

I have had issues with printing when avahi defines it since that definition does not use the HP driver.

To anyhow answer some more of your questions:

The printers in my office here are HP M2727nf and HP M283fdw, both now are detected again by both computers, one still running F35 and the other computer running F36 already.

The printer in the remote office is a HP CM2320nf, also now detected again by both computers there both running F36.

All printers/scanners now are available to all computers again as before, via VPN.

(Some combinations of computer + printer/scanner are not needed, so not installed via hp-setup, but my main computer used for sys admin jobs has them all.)
