Bards in Brussels / Beirdd ym Mrwsel
Welsh poets meet their Belgian counterparts
Wales has one of the oldest and most vigorous traditions of bards in
Europe. On the occasion of the European Cultural Council in November,
Het beschrijf is inviting you to Passa Porta to make the acquaintance
of the well-known Welsh poets Richard Gwyn, Gwyneth Lewis and Patrick
McGuinness. They will read from their own work and will meet three
Belgian poets, Benno Barnard, Eva Cox and Erik Spinoy, whom they got
to know at a translation workshop. Language and identity are
undoubtedly one of the common themes that unite these poets from Wales
and Belgium. Richard Gwyn is writer-in-residence in Villa Hellebosch,
the mansion in Flanders, throughout November
As part of europalia.europa, an evening organised by Het beschrijf,
the Welsh Assembly Government and local partners with collaboration
and support of Wales Arts International.
