It should have disabled anything having to do with CUPS, as far as I know.

I know that FreeMED does touch some parts of CUPS, but it shouldn't
remove any packages or disable anything.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I thought that as well, but I'm not even able to access CUPS on the server itself now after the FreeMed install, browsing to localhost:631.

I'm getting a 'connection rejected' error from Chrome and a 'cant establish connection' from Firefox.

I'm not sure FreeMed is going to fit our needs (we really just need a fairly simple electronic care plan system), but regardless, in the interest of being thorough, wanted to check this out to see if anyone else has had the same problem or might have a suggestion.

Thanks again!

Todd

We are able to print with this system at our office.  Sorry that something happened to your ability to print.
Just wanted to tell you that several of us are available to help you use FreeMED, even if you just want to use just a few features.  Would be a shame to remove FreeMED now that you have it installed.
Regarding the print problem, I have a suggestion.
I will try to write you about this

Hi Guys,

Thank you so much for the offer of assistance.  I would certainly like to take you up on that.

I have been on different duties the last week so haven't had a chance to put my IT hat on and look at this, but am back in on Mondays and Wednesdays not until the end of the year, so will be trying to sort something out for an Electronic Care Plan system.

If you think FreeMed would work, I'd be very happy to give it a try.

Basically, what we need is:

A system where any of our 30+ staff and carers may log in and leave a simple note at the end of their shift for each of our Service Users (residents).

  • Those notes must be browsable, readable and be able to be entered by all members of staff
  • They must be easily searchable by date range
  • They must be easily printable, again, by date range
  • They must be easy to reach and the system easy to use (as in, by staffers with NO computer literacy beyond using facebook)
That is the base of what we're looking for at the moment.  Ideally, from my standpoint, I'd like a system where once a regular carer logs in, they're presented with a visual list of our Service Users, they click a portrait, are presented with a great big flashing red box that says ENTER CARE PLAN NOTES HERE, and that's it.

Ok, maybe I was being a bit sarcastic on the whole 'flashing red box' thing, but you get the idea... it's gotta be stupidly simple for our regular carers to log in and use, but be flexible enough that higher management can get the reports out of it that they need for reviews, enquiries, incidents, etc.

Once we get that simple component up and running, then I'd like to take a look at some of the other features of FreeMed, but to be honest, I've failed to even get that far.

Let me know what you guys think.  And also, any help on getting our printer to work through the server again would be ace.

Thanks!

Todd
