Hello Everyone,

I am trying to run FreeMed from an image I downloaded for Mac
(Powerbook G4 PPC). I have installed Bochs and rather use it instead
of the VMWare player you suggest, since my g4 is not intel. Is this
possible? I know Bochs can mount vmware 3 and 4 images, was freeMed
image for vmware created using either one? How can I do it?

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

SK

Hi,
The VMware image was created with VMware Workstation v5.5
If our FreeMED-VMware image does not work for you, then perhaps, we can work with you to make an image that will work.
Let us know what happens when you try to use the image.

You may have better luck (and better speed results) with qemu, which
does work with the FreeMED VMware image, as far as I know.

Thanks for your prompt answer Volker.

I tried the image with bochs, but it did not run.

What else to do?

Thanks for that input Jeff.

I am trying with qemu, but since it is the first time with it, I have
no idea where to start. I have already installed it and seems to be
working. But, I have some question since I am new to qemu: should I
convert the FreeMED image to qemu, how do I do it, which is the image
I must convert?

Thanks for your help,

SK

Hi ,
We have not had this situation before and therefore none of us may be able to give you the benefit of previous experience.
I googled a bit and found that some folks had a hard time working with quemu in your type of situation.
There are more hints on Google on how to use Bochs to install Debian.
Here is one article:
http://www.linux.com/feature/40825
I would continue to google on this subject.  After you have configured Bochs, download the netinstall version of Debian.
It can be found at http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.1/i386/iso-cd/debian-501-i386-netinst.iso
Let us know how things go for you.
Volker
