As I sometimes have path problems, where one of my own cmd scripts is hidden (shadowed) by another program (earlier on the path), I would like to be able to find the full path to a program on the Windows command line, given just its name.
where.exe tries to follow the Windows command shell CMD.EXE's rules for what file names and paths work as commands. That includes the %PATHEXT% environment variable and the ability to open non-program data files using their filenames with extensions:
PowerShell commands are not just executable files (.exe, .ps1, etc). They can also be cmdlets, functions, aliases, custom executable suffixes set in $Env:PATHEXT, etc. Get-Command is able to find and list all of these commands (quite akin to Bash's type -a foo). This alone makes it better than where.exe, which.exe, etc which are typically limited to finding just executables.
Cygwin gives you the comfort of *nix in the Windows environment (and you can use it in your Windows command shell, or use a *nix shell of your choice). It gives you a whole host of *nix commands (like which) for Windows, and you can just include that directory in your PATH.
This batch file uses CMD variable handling to find the command that would be executed in the path. Note: that the current directory is always done before the path) and depending on which API call is used other locations are searched before/after the path.
GOW (GNU on Windows) is the lightweight alternative to Cygwin. It uses a convenient Windows installer that installs about 130 extremely useful open source UNIX applications compiled as native win32 binaries. Now I switched to the which that comes with Git. Just add to your path the /usr/bin path from Git, which is usually at C:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\which.exe. The which binary will be at C:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\which.exe. It is faster and also works as expected.
The Windows Kernel is not just a single file. It's the core of the operating system, and relies on several files in order to function. It is not seen as a task in the task manager... because it is what organizes those tasks.

I'm pretty sure I've narrowed the issue down to the fact that the setting of the partitions and/or a corrupted BCD are to blame but so far, nothing I have found online has fixed it and nothing I have found explains clearly enough what needs to be done.
I should point out that method 5 is unclear to me - for example one of the steps says to look for the partition using FAT32, but none of mine are as shown by my attached photos. Another issue is that the tutorial doesn't explain what each step is doing. Am I meant to copying things from the bootable USB? Am I copying from one volume to another? I can't tell what the goal is, so I don't know which drive letters I should be using at which times.
After this, I have tried running sfc /scannow as suggested below by snayob, but when I do this I get a message saying There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again.Of course, I cannot restart Windows. When I reboot, I'm back to the beginning again.
So I run net start trustedinstaller. This command succeeds, but when I run the sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=d:\windows command, I again get the message about not starting the repair service.
We've now spent a week on this - ridiculous. I was speaking with a friend who manages a huge number of servers and his suggestion as an answer was "Throw away all your Windows servers". He was half joking, but I think we are now at the stage where this is actually the answer - I'll give it another day or so then post that as a solution, because that's what we are going to have to do.

In the end I had to completely rebuild the BCD. However, this alone didn't work, as noted earlier. I used the nuclear holocaust option described here. However, I ran this multiple times and the machine still wouldn't boot. It was probably the fourth time I ran it, with minor variations, before I gave up. In this case, there was no error message, the Windows logo came up, then nothing. This had happened before so I didn't get too excited, though it did feel like progress. About six hours later the server started sending job failure notifications - it was running again.
Ok. Thanks Michael and Vincent. To confirm, docker is storing the images in the Moby instance, so its all in the virtual disk. Which means, that if I need to relocate the storage to another physical drive (outside of hyper-v), I have to move that file - and of course change the VM info, or make that folder a symbolic link (or similar) to somewhere else.
There is still a confusion lingering in my mind. When I create a new image using docker build, I get the last line of the log as
Successfully built a854b5869839.
However when I look for images in C:\ProgramData\docker\windowsfilter or C:\ProgramData\docker\containers I do not find any folder with a similar name (which I believe I read somewhere on Stackoverflow houses the images).
All the hyperv configuration is not related to windows containers, right?

I have not been able to find specific information on this anywhere. I recently ran into issues with my Omen Laptop, and needed to reimage it. Now, I only have Linux on the machine, but I'm trying to recover the Windows 10 Product key which came with the computer so I can add a Windows partition back onto it and activate it.
I read somewhere that the Windows 10 activation key exists somewhere in the device, but it's different for every device, but I've also read that these stickers no longer exist. I took the back off the computer and didn't see anything, so I also took the battery out because I read that sometimes it's located behind the battery area. No luck there either.
I need to save some files from my personal computer but most of them are under windows user folder. With USB, I plugged in try ubuntu and can see my HDD but I can't access my SSD (where all files I need to save is located and where windows was). I am not well experienced with ubuntu. It can see the SSD on the left menu and when I try to open it, it tries but nothing happens. I went to disks and tried to mount a big partition from the SSD, it gave me the following error:
Well, in the end it was my SSD (where windows was installed).0 It got corrupted data and whenever I tried to boot with windows usbs (3 in total with 3 different methods) it got stuck. And the reason for that was bootable win usb instances are always checking if there is a windows installed. Because my SSD was corrupted, it got stuck without showing anything. All that for that repair button.
lsv is the extension for BG3 save files. You can write anything you remember from the files you are searching * characters allows to find similar texts.After searching, found files would be stored in a folder, like found.000 which will be in that USB you booted Ubuntu from. Now you can copy those files even though they are not visible in file explorer/manager. And they work.
From powered off. Battery installed and AC power connected. Press power and immediatly press and hold Alt and begin constant tapping F10(about once a second) while it boots. Should bring up "Starting Acer Ereovery"factory reset screen, select #1
1.Select Restore system to factory default
2. Enter the password (if needed) created when eRecovery was first started.
3. Read the on-screen warning and choose Yes.
4. Click Next. The recovery process will start.
I wish any of the above worked for me. I have the same problem. Using ALT F10 it tells me, Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failure. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media. I then stick the flash drive in the USB and press enter. The boot manager pops up on the screen. THe only option listed is the flash drive. I choose the flash drive, the computer boots to the flash drive, where i have 2 options troubleshoot and turn of your PC. by choosint troubleshoot I get to a screen with 3 options, (1) refresh your pc that tells me the drive where windows is installes is locked. Unlock and try again. (2) Reset your PC which seems to work but after it finishes, I try rebooting PC and it tells me there is no bootable drive.
(3) Advanced Options which takes me to another screen which includes System Restore That dosn't work because the are no restore points. (2) System Image Recovery That dosn't work because it can't find a System Image. (3) Startup repair, That tells me it can't repair it. (4) command Prompt & (5) UEFI Firmware Settings to which seems to be the only thing that does work. Can any one help me with this problem. I am working with an Aspire E5-521
