Following Tuesday's attempted eviction, senate occupation and
subsequent re-occupation of the Free Hetherington, university
management are at crisis point.
After 7 weeks of demanding that senior management hold a mass meeting
with students and staff over the cuts, they have finally capitulated.
Already, David Newall and Susan Stewart have met with the occupiers en
masse. Now Anton Muscatelli will hold a mass meeting, open to
all ...students and staff, at 12 noon on Friday 25 March.
This is specifically in response to concerns over Tuesday's eviction
attempt, as well as growing opposition to both the cuts - and the
extremely undemocratic way in which they're being carried out. The
consultation process has already been condemned by staff union the
UCU, the University Senate, and the Student Representative Council.
Indeed, it seems only the University Court now support the
consultation.
Management are on the backfoot. Friday's mass meeting represents an
important opportunity for staff and students to present their concerns
to the Principal directly.
The meeting will take place between 12.00 - 1.50pm
