But first this :
Protest against political policing in Glasgow!
Saturday 23rd 12-2pm. Meet at Gordon Street (by RBS)
The past week has seen the outrageous conviction of one young student
activist on trumped up charges of police assault, and the arrest of
three under-18s on politically motivated charges in relation to last
December's demonstration over tuition fees in Glasgow city centre.
These charges are now being used as a pretext to impose draconian bail
conditions and exclusion zones on political activists. This includes a
condition that they cannot be with more than one other person doing
political activity - otherwise it constitutes a 'protest' and a breach
of bail. Those arrested have also been banned from entering Glasgow
University - despite one being a student there.
As resistance to cuts and austerity steps up, the police are
attempting to intimidate, victimise and derail the anti-cuts movement.
The Free Hetherington and the Glasgow Defence Campaign are calling a
joint demonstration to show that we refuse to be intimidated by this
blatant display of political policing. The streets are ours.
Defend the right to protest!
"The police in Britain have begun a political war of intimidation
against those who exercise their right to protest peacefully. No where
is this more evident than in the outrageous actions of the Strathclyde
police against the Glasgow Defence Campaign, including a direct attack
on the right of free speech and peaceful assembly. Who will be next?
If the police are allowed to succeed, other legitimate campaigns will
be targeted. It's imperative the Glasgow Defence Campaign has the
support of all of us." - John Pilger
