Hi All

Apologies for the quiet, hope you are having a splendid and peaceful festive season, and that prosperity will bore you in 2016! It might well finally be the year for Froid - it did not get off the ground in Q4 2015 as we suffered a budget reduction on the project we wanted to insert it into.

At Bika we are currently preparing another set of proposals which all feature new instruments to be interfaced,
including the BD MGIT targeted as first Froid instrument, as well as temperature loggers for biobank features and these could be appropriated Failing that, we are also applying for a government grant to get going with. All other projects in this group dealing with instruments, please see if you could shape it around Froid

On the technical front, it has been mentioned that we should seriously evaluate Mirth Connect again, no need to re-invent the wheel and it'll also simplify implementations requiring HL7 integrations.

If we were into the hardware itself, Alex brought up the ESP8266 chip, a tiny WiFi capable micro-controller, to which custom firmware can be loaded for it to talk directly to say temperature sensors, see this Hackaday article. Amazingly simple and powerful, time to dust off the soldering iron for the rest of the holidays...

All feedback and comment (funding;-) welcome.

Bests
