Chanchal has released a biography called Midnight Singer which narrates his life, struggles and hardships leading to achievements. He visited Katra Vaishno Devi every year on 29 December and performed on the last day of the year.
The biopic film, based on the life of legendary Bengali filmmaker Mrinal Sen features prominent Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury as its lead. The actor, at different times, had already unveiled the captivating look of his character in this highly anticipated biographical film on legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen.
In the 1 minute and 37 seconds long black and white teaser, posted on Big Screen Production's official YouTube channel, Chanchal seems to brilliantly catch the essence and significance of playing the filmmaker in his most turbulent, struggling phases amidst different political upheavals of his filmmaking career.
The teaser begins with a funeral march of a massive crowd around a wreath-adorned casket presumably carrying Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. The teaser signifies a cultural shift following Tagore's death. Mrinal Sen used to be called the "experimental genius" and it was quoted in the teaser as well to signify the filmmaking journey of the maestro.
For nearly a century, the Bengali filmmaker Mrinal Sen has navigated through a tumultuous backdrop of historical upheavals, including mass famine, the partition of his homeland, and the rise of right-wing nationalism. In contrast to his refined contemporary Satyajit Ray, Sen embraced "rough edges" in his films, rejecting formal refinement for a more ambiguous and open-ended approach.
When Chanchal previously shared photos of his first look as Mrinal Sen, he stated, "At first, I was surprised to see the picture... is it Mrinal Sen or me!!! It took a while to realize the truth, but it also felt a lot better. What a wonderful work by makeup artiste Somnath Kundu."
Coinciding with the centenary celebration of Mrinal Sen's birth last year, the prestigious magazine, Variety, featured an exclusive interview with Chanchal Chowdhury, director Srijit Mukherji, and producer Ferdousul Hasan, showcasing the remarkable picture of Chanchal Chowdhury as Mrinal Sen.
Director Srijit Mukherji's vision for "Padatik" is a heartfelt tribute to the eminent filmmaker Mrinal Sen for his momentous birth centenary. Chanchal further expressed his gratitude and appreciation for being chosen to portray this challenging role, acknowledging the immense responsibility that comes with depicting the inner essence of such a legendary figure.
However, In the interview with Variety, he emphasised that merely resembling Mrinal Sen physically was not enough for a biopic of this magnitude. The actor aimed to delve into the depths of Mrinal Sen's persona, striving to capture his essence and portray his character with utmost authenticity.
Mrinal Sen, revered as one of the most accomplished directors of New Indian Cinema, stood as a distinct alternative to mainstream commercial films. After a glorious journey in the world of cinema, Mrinal Sen passed away on December 30, 2018, in Kolkata, at the age of 95. He left behind a profound legacy and a trail of masterpieces that continue to inspire generations.
Directed by Hariharan, the film marked the acting debut of actress Jomol and Chanchal. While Jomol won the Kerala state Best Actress award for the film, Chanchal too grabbed the attention and went on to bag a few movies.
Chanchal had started her career in modelling in 1997 and was a familiar face in Television through various shows. After her debut in Ennu Swantham Janakikutty, she went on to act in films like Ormacheppu and Rishivamsham. She was much noted for her role as Sameera in Dileep-starrer Ormacheppu which was directed by Lohithadas.

Ground state spin configurations obtained from DFT calculations for Gd2NiMnO6 in (a) bulk Structure and (b) strained structure. The violet, blue, and green atoms represent Gd, Mn, and Ni atoms, respectively. Red and yellow arrows depict the two possible spin orientations. The dotted unit cell represents bulk unit cell indicating volume expansion in strained unit cell, (c) hard-ferrimagnetic phase for strain-relaxed structure, and (d) soft ferromagnetic phase for strained structure with arrows scaled to moment magnitudes. Since the Gd ordering takes place below 10 K, the magnetic contribution of Gd atoms is neglected.
Calculated GGA+U electronic band structure is shown for Gd2NiMnO6 for (a) bulk structure and (b) strained lattice structure. The black and turquoise curves represent the band structure for the majority and minority spin channels, respectively. The Fermi energy is set at zero in the energy scale.
Multifaceted star Chanchal Chowdhury's new movie "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" is releasing on October 13. In this movie, he played the character of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, the father of Bangabandhu, when he was middle-aged.
Chanchal Chowdhury revealed that he got an offer to be in the film towards the end of it. "I agreed without considering how many scenes I would be in and how profound my character was. As an actor, I just wanted to participate in the biopic of Bangabandhu's," he attested.
He further added that this is the biggest project based on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying, "He led us towards this independent nation and freedom. A sense of responsibility, therefore, compelled me to be a part of Bangabandhu's biopic."
"I have always wanted a major project about Bangabandhu to be made. Apart from that, Shyam Benegal is a prodigious director of the subcontinent. The overall opportunity felt like a chance to be a part of history, to me. I hold Bangabandhu's ideal in high regard. Not only did the man work for his country all his life, but he was killed because of it," explained Chanchal Chowdhury.
Regarding Benegal, the actor said, "I went to India for several days and filmed. I did think that a substantial director like Shyam Benegal might not attend to the sets every day and that his assistant would carry out most of the work. But his work ethic left me in awe. He was present for the filming of every scene and I was impressed by the love and care he poured into finishing his work."
In response to being asked about his first day of filming, Chanchal Chowdhury said, "My personal sentiments helped me film with a lot of emotions. Perhaps all Bangladeshi artistes followed a similar route, and the director understood this matter. The first day of filming will definitely remain memorable for me."
The lifetime achievement award comes with a Tk 300,000 cash prize, while the best feature film producer and best film director each receive Tk 200,000. In all other cases, the award includes a cash prize of Tk 100,000.
The much-anticipated film "Toofan," starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, is set to release this Eid al-Adha. The film stars Kolkata actress Mimi Chakraborty and Bangladeshi actress Nabila.

Besides, my personal relationship with Shakib is completely different. I would love to work with them together. And with three such big production houses coming together, it is bound to be something good."
The film "Toofan" is being produced by SVF Bangladesh, Alpha i, and Chorki. These three production houses had earlier announced another big film, "Domm." The film will be directed by Redoan Rony. Chanchal will be seen in the lead role in "Domm."
