We are pleased to announce about the 2nd National Conference: Malaysia on the Path to Non Discrimination, Making it Possible as a follow up from last year's conference, For those who attended last year's conference, you would have known that the conference brought together people from different sectors including the civil servants to discuss and critically analyze different issues on Racism in Malaysia.

This year, KOMAS together with Institute of Ethnic studies and SUHAKAM with the support of PROHAM is organizing a similar conference with a more specific theme focusing on laws, policies and international standards in racism.

The objective of the conference is to;

1. To review current laws that is existing in Malaysia that may impact race relations and to look at the possibility of an alternative bill if suitable or needed.
2. To engage policy makers, elected representatives, different levels of government and the civil society through the conferences to advocate for legal and policy reforms.
3. To understand better international standards on Human Right Laws especially the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD)

We have also invited the Special Rapporteur on Racism from UN, Mr. Mutuma Ruteere to attend the conference and he will be delivering a keynote speech during the conference. There will be three different panels discussing three different topics (current laws and policies, international standards & the way forward) during the conference (Please see attached invite and program for more details)

KOMAS who is also leading the campaign with 9 other civil societies to ratify the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and CERD-Working group will be launching the campaign videos (Say No to Racism) and the declaration/petition campaign to get the support of the people to pressure the government to ratify ICERD and take important measures to practice human rights mechanisms in Malaysia.
