0)  Yes, It’s That Time Of Year Again …

Hey, everyone …

As I periodically remind y’all, the freedom movement’s daily newspaper is a reader-supported publication.

I try to go easy on that for nine months out of the year, but every October 1, we run a “year-end fundraiser.”

And … it’s October 1. So off we go:

https://news.rationalreview.com/support-rrnd

Last year, our goal was $5,351. This year it’s $5,501. More than last year because, you know, inflation. $5,501 because I like prime numbers.

The good news: As has been the case for several years now, a generous reader is offering “matching funds” for half of that goal … meaning that all of our several thousand OTHER daily readers on the web, via email, and on social media, only need to come up with $2,750.50.

And once we’ve hit our goal, you will hear not a single word from me about money for the rest of the year, and only the occasional “we’re reader-supported” mention for another nine months after that.

So: The quicker the better, and the beatings will continue until morale improves! That URL again:

https://news.rationalreview.com/support-rrnd

PLEASE: DO NOT MAIL CHECKS WITHOUT EMAILING ME (PUBL...@RATIONALREVIEW.COM) FIRST!

Why? Well, they need to be made out to a particular person (we’re not incorporated, we’re not a non-profit, etc.) in order to be cashed. And, I will hopefully be moving during the fundraiser; my address will change when I do move.

I’m sure I’ll be making the case for helping us out many times between now and hitting our goal, so I’ll keep it to one sentence this time:

We’ve been doing this since the mid-1990s, and we’ve never charged a mandatory fee, but we gotta eat.

https://news.rationalreview.com/support-rrnd

Have a great day, and support the freedom movement’s daily newspaper!

Yours in liberty,
Tom Knapp

1)  Report: Hamas likely to reject Trump’s Gaza proposal
Source: Newsweek

“A senior Hamas official said Wednesday the group is ‘likely’ to reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly announced 20-point peace proposal for Gaza, a plan that Washington and Jerusalem maintain could end the fighting and secure the release of the remaining [48 Israeli hostages held by Hamas and some, but not all, Palestinian hostages held by Israel]. The official, speaking to the BBC, argued the framework ‘serves Israel’s interests’ while ‘ignoring those of the Palestinian people,’ and added that Hamas will neither disarm nor accept the deployment of an international stabilization force — both central requirements of Trump’s initiative.” (10/01/25)

2)  US regime enters faux “shutdown”
Source: The Guardian [UK]

“The US government shut down [sic] on Wednesday, after congressional Democrats refused to support a Republican plan to extend funding for federal departments unless they won a series of concessions centered on healthcare. The GOP, which controls the Senate and the House of Representatives, repudiated their demands, setting off a legislative scramble that lasted into the hours before funding lapsed at midnight, when the Senate failed to advance both parties’ bills to keep funding going.” (10/01/25)

“Bitcoin has broken through the $116,000 mark, climbing 2% in the past 24 hours and briefly reaching as high as $116,600. The rally is unfolding against a backdrop of a U.S. government shutdown and record-setting strength in gold, which is trading near $3,900. Ether is following suit, jumping nearly 4% in the same 24-hour period to trade at $4,287.” (10/01/25)

4)  Poland: Ukrainian diver with alleged links to Nord Stream attack detained
Source: Al Jazeera [Qatari state media]

“A Ukrainian diver suspected of being involved in causing undersea explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines between Russia and Germany in 2022 has been detained in Poland. The diver, identified as Volodymyr Z under Germany’s privacy laws, was detained on Tuesday near the Polish capital, Warsaw, local radio station RMF FM and his lawyer said. The lawyer, Tymoteusz Paprocki, said he would challenge his client’s transfer to Germany, where investigators had launched a case into the attack, which was described by both Moscow and the West as an act of sabotage.” (09/30/25)

5)  CA: Feds sue Los Angeles County sheriff for “unreasonable” delays in issuing very special important permission slips for guns
Source: Los Angeles Times

“The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Robert Luna, claiming the department violated county gunowners’ 2nd Amendment rights by delaying thousands of concealed carry permit application decisions for ‘unreasonable’ periods of time. In a statement, the Justice Department claimed that the Sheriff’s Department ‘systematically denied thousands of law-abiding Californians their fundamental Second Amendment right to bear arms outside the home — not through outright refusal, but through a deliberate pattern of unconscionable delay.'” [editor’s note: Requiring a “permit” at all violates the 2nd Amendment – TLK] (09/30/25)

6)  Nepal: Two-year-old girl chosen as new living goddess
Source: ABC News

“A two-year-old girl chosen as Nepal’s new living goddess was carried by family members from their home in an alley in Kathmandu to a temple palace Tuesday during the country’s longest and most significant Hindu festival. Aryatara Shakya, at 2 years and 8 months, was chosen as the new Kumari or ‘virgin goddess,’ replacing the incumbent who is considered by tradition to become a mere mortal upon reaching puberty. Living goddesses are worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. The girls are selected between the ages of 2 and 4 and are required to have unblemished skin, hair, eyes and teeth. They should not be afraid of the dark.” (09/30/25)

7)  Global currency market swells to $10 trillion a day in tariff turmoil
Source: Financial Times [UK]

“Foreign-exchange trading volumes hit a record $10tn a day during the fallout from Donald Trump’s ‘liberation day’ tariff blitz, underlining the currency markets’ growing role as the front line for global volatility. There were an average of $9.6tn of daily transactions in April, according to the latest triennial report from the Bank for International Settlements, up from $7.5tn in the same month three years earlier. The data underscores the relentless growth of forex volumes in recent decades, and the growing influence that this over-the-counter trading — deals struck privately between banks — has over global financial markets.” (09/30/25)

8)  US consumer confidence declines again as Americans fret over prices, job market
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

“U.S. consumer confidence declined again in September as Americans’ pessimism over inflation and the weakening job market continued to grow. The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index fell by 3.6 points to 94.2 in September, down from August’s 97.8. That’s a bigger drop than analysts were expecting and the lowest reading since April, when President Donald Trump rolled out his sweeping tariff policy. A measure of Americans’ short-term expectations for their income, business conditions and the job market fell to 73.4, remaining well below 80, the marker that can signal a recession ahead. Consumers’ assessments of their current economic situation dipped by 7 points to 125.4.” (09/30/25)

Source: France 24 [French state media]

“South Africa’s ambassador to France, formerly a long-serving cabinet minister, was found dead on Tuesday outside a Paris hotel after the window of his room in the high rise building was forced open, prosecutors said. Nkosinathi Emmanuel Nathi Mthethwa, 58, usually known as Nathi Mthethwa, had ‘reserved a room on the 22nd floor whose secured window had been forced open,’ the office of the Paris prosecutor told AFP. … A source close to the case, who asked not to be named, said the ambassador suffered from depression and his death could have been suicide. “Local California women’s rights activist Beth Bourne protested the policy allowing transgender students access to girls’ locker rooms by stripping down to a bikini at a local school board meeting. Bourne, who chairs the Moms for Liberty in Yolo County, took part in the Davis Joint Unified School Board meeting on Sept. 18 where she highlighted school policies on locker room access. ‘I’m a parent in the Davis Unified School District, and I’m here today to talk about the policies you have for the locker rooms in the junior high schools. So Emerson, Holmes, Harper Junior High. Right now, we require our students to undress for PE class. 12) LA: Landry asks Pentagon for military occupation of cities
Source: Washington Post

“Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) has requested federal assistance to deploy National Guard troops to combat crime in urban centers throughout the state, weeks after President Donald Trump floated the possibility of sending troops to New Orleans. In a letter dated Monday, Landry asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for as many as 1,000 troops to be mobilized in Louisiana until September 2026, citing ‘elevated violent crime rates’ in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport …. In New Orleans … crime rates have decreased significantly this year. After a pandemic-era spike in killings, the city’s murder rate has fallen to lows not seen since the 1970s. In Baton Rouge, the city’s crime data on Tuesday showed slightly fewer homicides this year than the previous year, while the number of felony arrests so far this year was 13.5 percent lower than it was this time last year.” (09/30/25)

13) US regime deporting 120 Iranians after deal struck with Tehran
Source: BBC News [UK State Media]

“Iran says 120 of its nationals are being deported from the US, as part of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration. ‘These individuals will return to the country within the next one or two days,’ Iranian foreign ministry official Hossein Noushabadi told Iran’s Tasnim state news agency. He said most of those being flown to Iran, via Qatar, had entered the US illegally [sic] — mainly through Mexico. There has been an increased number of Iranians entering the US in recent years, including many who fear persecution at home. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told the BBC: ‘The Trump administration is committed to fulfilling President Trump’s promise to carry out the largest mass deportation operation of illegal [sic] aliens in history, using all the tools at our disposal.'” (09/30/25)

15) US regime faces brain drain as 154,000 federal workers exit this week
Source: Reuters

“More than 150,000 federal employees will leave the U.S. government payroll this week after accepting buyouts — the largest single-year exodus of civil servants in nearly 80 years, triggering what unions and governance experts warn is a damaging loss of institutional expertise. The official resignations begin on Tuesday for workers who opted into a deferred exit program that kept them on the payroll through September. The buyouts are a cornerstone of President Donald Trump’s push to shrink the federal workforce, combining financial incentives with threats of dismissal for those who declined the offer. Many left their agencies months ago, according to the federal government’s HR office, and have effectively been on paid leave.” (09/30/25)

“The Trump administration on Monday rescinded a Biden-era firearms export rule that prohibited the transfer of civilian weaponry to individuals in 36 countries deemed high-risk of falling into the hands of criminals or terrorists. The Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security rescinded the interim final rule, arguing it imposed ‘onerous’ export controls on weapons, throttling U.S. gunmakers from competing in overseas markets at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars a year in exports.” (09/29/25)

17) Chinese woman convicted after “world’s biggest” bitcoin seizure
Source: BBC News [UK State Media]

“A Chinese national has been convicted following an international fraud investigation which resulted in what’s believed to be the single largest cryptocurrency seizure in the world. The Metropolitan Police says it recovered 61,000 bitcoin worth more than £5bn ($6.7bn) in current prices. Zhimin Qian, also known as Yadi Zhang, pleaded guilty on Monday at Southwark Crown Court of illegally acquiring and possessing the cryptocurrency. Between 2014 and 2017 she led a large-scale scam in China which involved cheating more than 128,000 victims and storing the stolen funds in bitcoin assets, the Met said in a statement. It said the 47-year-old’s guilty plea followed a seven-year probe into a global money laundering web which began when it got a tipoff about the transfer of criminal assets.” (09/30/25)

The explosion, swiftly followed by heavy gunfire, tore through the vicinity of Zarghoon Road in Quetta, capital of Balochistan province, on Tuesday. … Local authorities said the attack was a suicide bombing and multiple attackers were killed. 19) Europe’s top central banker: Economy holding up better than expected in face of Trump tariffs
Source: SFGate

“Europe’s economy is holding up better than expected in the face of U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs — in part because the European Union didn’t retaliate with self-defeating tariffs of its own, the head of the European Central Bank said Tuesday. Christine Lagarde said the impact of Trump’s trade war on growth and inflation in the 20 countries that use the euro currency had also been softened by a stronger euro and by conclusion of a trade deal with Trump. The deal capped tariffs at 15% and took away uncertainty that threatened to delay or disrupt business investment. ‘A year ago, most would have assumed that U.S. tariffs … would trigger a major adverse shock to the euro area economy,’ Large said in a speech delivered at a central banking conference in Helsinki, Finland. ‘Yet some of these assumptions have not been borne out.'” (09/30/25)

20) CA: Newsom signs first-in-nation AI “safety” law
Source: Politico

“California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a first-in-the-nation law on Monday that will force major AI companies to reveal their safety protocols — marking the end of a lobbying battle with big tech companies like ChatGPT maker OpenAI and Meta and setting the groundwork for a potential national standard. The proposal was the second attempt by the author, ambitious San Francisco Democrat and state Sen. Scott Wiener, to pass such legislation after Newsom vetoed a broader measure last year that set off an international debate. It is already being watched in Congress and other states as an example to follow as lawmakers seek to rein in an emerging technology that has been embraced by the Trump administration in the race against China, but which has also prompted concerns for its potential to create harms.” (09/29/25)

21) War and the Republic
Source: Law & Liberty
by Sarah Burns

“One of the most valuable elements of the creation of the Constitution was the deliberation that took place in the Philadelphia Convention. The very act of discussing important matters of state over the course of time allows for compromise and clarity (and likely a good deal of frustration). The act of deliberation is an important safeguard in democracy. It is even more important in deciding about war and peace. I think most founders thought there should be some discussion about when to initiate hostilities, with a land invasion as an exception. Beyond that, I still think the founders and many who followed thought that it was important, arguably necessary for a president to ask for congressional permission, wait for their deliberation, and accept the result. … Presidents today have too many tools at their fingertips. They barely even ask forgiveness, let alone permission. Worse still, Congress doesn’t force presidents to do so.” (09/30/25)

22) “AYN RAND” v. JARS
Source: Notablog
by Chris Matthew Sciabarra

“For more than two decades, I was associated with The Journal of Ayn Rand Studies (JARS). That journal’s debut issue was published in September 1999. … Not too long after the debut of that first issue, Bill [Bradford] received a threatening letter addressed to The Journal of Ayn Rand Studies Foundation, dated September 30, 1999 — twenty-six years ago today. It was from the New York offices of a prestigious law firm specializing in intellectual property rights. The lawyer wrote on behalf of their clients: Leonard Peikoff as the sole heir and executor of Rand’s estate, and the Ayn Rand Institute. We were informed that the Estate owned a valid federal trademark for the name ‘AYN RAND,’ which had been registered on February 10, 1998 (Registration No. 2,135,457).” (09/30/25)

“‘Military leaders have raised serious concerns about the Trump administration’s forthcoming defense strategy,’ the Washington Post reports. ‘The critiques from multiple top officers … come as [US defense secretary Pete] Hegseth reorders U.S. military priorities — centering the Pentagon on perceived threats to the homeland, narrowing U.S. competition with China, and downplaying America’s role in Europe and Africa.’ … we should welcome even the slightest reorientation of US military policy toward ‘national defense’ rather than foreign meddling.” (09/30/25)

24) Americans Must Reject Attempts to Restrict Internet Free Speech
Source: The American Conservative
by Mason Letteau Stallings

“While most Americans may not be familiar with Section 230, all benefit from it: It is responsible for much of our ability to speak freely online. Without it, it is hard to see how social media would have taken off in the first place. At its core, Section 230 simply prevents computer service providers, including social media companies, from being treated as publishers by law, meaning that they do not have civil liability for user-generated content on their platforms. … platforms can allow people to express a wide range of views without facing continuous lawsuits over user posts and the opinions expressed therein. Because of this, Section 230 is a prime target for would-be internet censors.” (09/30/25)

25) Donald Trump Will Never Be a Restrainer
Source: Foreign Policy
by Stephen M Walt

“It’s time to put an end to debates about whether U.S. President Donald Trump is some sort of foreign-policy realist or ‘restrainer.’ Admittedly, his mercurial approach to policymaking and his penchant for saying one thing and doing the opposite make his views hard to pin down, especially when he flip-flops from one extreme to another for no apparent reason (see under: Ukraine). Although some of his statements and actions might appear to be compatible with the label, a realist/restrainer he is not.” (09/30/25)

26) We’re Being Ruled Over by the World’s Biggest Losers
Source: The Nation
by Katherine Krueger

“In philosophy, the Nietzschean Übermensch frees himself from the pedestrian bounds of humanity to become a superior being that can rule us mere mortals. In our reality, the men who fancy themselves Übermenschen — and who, unfortunately, are currently in charge of both the US government and much of the rest of the world — are huge losers and crybabies, despite getting basically everything they want. We’re living through a golden age for losers who don’t seem to realize how much they keep telegraphing their loserdom to the rest of us. They preen and pose as world-conquering superheroes while continually exposing just how sniveling and pathetic they really are. Their impulse to tell on themselves has been on full display in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.” (09/30/25)

“Zohran Mamdani, the person who defeated Cuomo in the primaries and is now seen as a mayoral contender for New York — the beating heart of capitalism — recently declared in an interview: ‘I don’t think we should have billionaires.’ Mamdani is not alone in this view. The visible edge of economic populism—the slogans, the soundbites—often conceals an intellectual iceberg beneath: ideas inherited from defunct economists, or sometimes living ones. One such idea with deep roots is limitarianism: the belief that there should be a cap on personal wealth.” (09/30/25)

“In ‘Government by Judiciary: The Transformation of the Fourteenth Amendment’ Raoul Berger argues that the Fourteenth Amendment is treated by activist judges as a platform for ‘social and political revolution.’ In theory, the role of the courts is to interpret the Constitution not to amend it. Nevertheless, by treating the Fourteenth Amendment as a ‘vague and elastic’ tool designed to forge a brave world of racial equality, progressive judges have conferred revolutionary powers on themselves.” (09/30/25)

29) Not Only Tulsi: Three Members of Congress Also Spied On In Quiet Skies Program
Source: Racket News
by Matt Taibbi

“Ahead of Tuesday hearings on the subject, the Senate’s Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) obtained documents showing three members of Congress, all Republicans, were followed under the TSA’s just-discontinued Quiet Skies program, which became infamous last summer when whistleblowers revealed bomb-sniffing dogs and Air Marshals were assigned to follow former Hawaii Congresswoman and future National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard. The members’ names have not yet been publicly released, but they were turned over to the Committee by the Department of Homeland Security, along with ‘TSA’ notes explaining how they ended up on the list.” (09/30/25)

30) Republican Hypocrisy on Discrimination
Source: Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G Hornberger

“It’s never difficult to find hypocrisy on the part of Republicans. As they fervently preach their favorite mantra, ‘free enterprise, private property, and limited government,’ they, at the same time, continue to support every socialist, interventionist, and regulatory program that comes down the pike, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, subsidies, the minimum wage, economic regulations, immigration controls, public (i.e., government) schooling, the national-security establishment, tariffs, trade wars, income taxation, and many more. A recent example of Republican hypocrisy comes with respect to what Republicans and Democrats call a ‘free speech’ issue but which is actually an issue based on private-property rights, a concept that both major political parties treat with disdain.” (09/30/25)

31) New Jersey governor debate revealed truth about Democrat Mikie Sherrill, and it’s not good
Source: Fox News
by Glenn Paulsen

“From the start, New Jersey Democrat Rep. Mikie Sherrill tried to have it both ways. She voted for the Charlie Kirk resolution and then trashed him in a press release hours later. That is not courage. That is cowardice. And it proves she is unfit for higher office. When New Jersey GOP gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli confronted her with the facts, Sherrill had no answers. She hid behind cheap shots and outright lies. Her central attack, that Ciattarelli would raise the sales tax to 10%, collapsed on stage. He flatly stated he would not raise the sales tax or any tax. But when asked point-blank to promise she would not raise sales, income or property taxes, Sherrill refused. She actually said she ‘would not commit.’ In plain English: she is leaving the door wide open to hiking your taxes, and you can bet she will, just like Democrat Governor Phil Murphy.” (09/30/25)

32) What Is A Value Added Tax?
Source: EconLog
by Pierre Lemieux

“A VAT is a consumption tax, similar to a sales tax, charged to final domestic consumers within a given territory. It is different from an ordinary sales tax in that it is collected from businesses at each stage where value is added along the chain of production. But it is a consumption tax and carries no net burden on businesses (except in terms of regulatory cost).” (09/30/25)

33) Democrats Always Guilty of What They Accuse Us of Doing
Source: Town Hall
by Derek Hunter

“The story opens, ‘The Mormon Church shooter who killed at least four people in an attack on Sunday had a Trump sign outside his house and wore MAGA merch’. After weeks of being lectured by the left about how it was ghoulish to point out that mentally disturbed leftists were murdering people for political reasons, suddenly they saw a Google Street View image of what kind of looks like a ‘Trump/Pence’ sign on a fence and they knew all they needed to know: Donald Trump had inspired one of his followers to murder Mormons. Missing, naturally, was anything Trump has ever said about Mormons. Democrats didn’t even try. If they had, they probably could have come up with something critical of Mitt Romney which was even too flimsy for them to try.” (09/30/25)

34) Dodger Stadium’s Dark Secret and the Human Cost of Urban Renewal
Source: The Daily Economy
by Kevin Lavery

“On May 9, 1959, Aurora Vargas was forcibly carried out of her home by police officers. There was no clear justification for this; Vargas had broken no laws, and her family’s home was not under foreclosure. This clear violation of property rights is common in countries ruled by totalitarian dictatorships, but this scene occurred in Los Angeles, California. Aurora Vargas and her family were evicted from their home by LA County Sheriffs to clear the way for what would become Dodger Stadium. Although the Vargas family was given $17,500 as compensation, few would dare to say that this displacement was just.” (09/30/25)

35) The defective indictment of James Comey
Source: The Hill
by James Zirin

“On the face of it, there should be no prohibition against the chief law enforcement officer of the country indicting someone he doesn’t like. And as my old boss in the U.S. Attorney’s office, Bob Morgenthau, famously said of his pursuit of Trump’s unsavory mentor Roy Cohn, ‘A man is not immune from prosecution just because a United States attorney happens not to like him.’ Comey’s lawyers will doubtless mount a motion to dismiss on grounds of selective prosecution — that Comey was singled out for prosecution for political or other base purposes. Normally, that’s a hard one to prove, and a harder one to win, but not in this case. It is typically difficult or impossible to prove that the government had some impermissible motive. But here, Trump gave Comey the selective prosecution argument on a silver platter.” (09/30/25)

“One of the first actions President Donald Trump took upon resuming office in January was to sign an executive order that characterized U.S. foreign aid programs as ‘not aligned with American interests’ and marked the beginning of a dramatic reduction in U.S. foreign assistance. Just nine months later however, the Trump administration has committed $20 billion in emergency financial assistance to Argentina in a move that outraged farmers reeling from a collapse in soybean sales to China that Argentina has exacerbated.” (09/30/25)

37) Hypocrite Bad Bunny a controversial choice for Super Bowl, but NFL only sees dollar signs
Source: New York Post
by Kirsten Fleming

“Bad Bunny is a bad choice for the Super Bowl halftime performance. Not simply because the Puerto Rican rapper’s politically driven touring choices are incompatible with someone being awarded one of the most prestigious perches of American culture. Or because his songs aren’t in English. But have you heard his autotune racket masquerading as music? Why can’t anyone sing or rap without the assistance of computers these days? I can already see the mute button in my future. Beyond the offensive tunes, the performer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is taking flak for his hypocrisy. He’s proudly accepting the splashy high-profile gig at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., after explicitly declining to play on the United States mainland for this current tour in protest of President Trump’s immigration policies and ICE enforcement.” (09/30/25)

39) America’s Ongoing Humiliation Ritual

“For the third time this month, the Israeli government deployed drones and bombs against the Global Sumud Flotilla, the convoy of 50 civilian boats carrying humanitarian aid as part of a global humanitarian attempt to break Israel’s US-backed siege of Gaza and draw international attention to the famine it has created. Those Israeli bombings – which targeted boats carrying numerous Americans, including an editor from Drop Site News, Alex Colston – are merely the latest affront by the Israelis not only to international law but to that foreign government’s primary sponsors in Washington. Predictably, not a single administration official has said a word about Israel’s recent attacks against the flotilla convoy carrying American citizens.” (09/30/25)

40) Revolution Gen Z
Source: Common Sense
by Paul Jacob

“It began as online outrage. Nepal’s government had banned social media, fearing the extremity of sentiment that might be expressed against the regime, but what followed that ban brought down the government. The general mood of protest escalated into nationwide demonstrations, clashes with security forces, and the storming of government buildings, resulting in at least 74 deaths and over 2000 injuries. But this was not an organized coup. It developed so swiftly from youth protest to the fall of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s government that it sure seemed to be spontaneous, taking just a few weeks’ time (or days’, depending where you set the starting point.)” (09/30/25)

41) As The World Turns Against Israel, Expect A Huge Fuss About The October 7 Anniversary
Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist
by Caitlin Johnstone

“Israel apologists are probably going to make a much, much bigger deal about the second October 7 anniversary than they did about the first anniversary, because they kind of have to. The world is turning against Israel in unprecedented ways in 2025, and yelling about October 7 is all they’ve got left. They’ve already got a scripted October 7 series coming out on Paramount+, and another, separate scripted October 7 series coming out on HBO Max for the anniversary. … The hasbarists are going to be so obnoxious. They’ll be babbling about Hamas beheading babies and then cooking the beheaded babies in the oven and then having sex with the beheaded babies and then eating the beheaded babies and then playing soccer with the baby heads while singing about how much they love Adolf Hitler.” (09/30/25)

“The folly of assassinations is that they generate the opposite of what the assassin intended. Aside from the tragedy of taking a human life, there is a pattern of how assassinations work against what the assassins aim to accomplish. Perhaps this realization could prevent assassins before they pull the trigger, if even a small amount of thought replaces the emotion driving the act. Here are six assassinations, spanning over 2,000 years to the present, that illustrate how the folly of assassinations has unfolded repeatedly.” (09/30/25)

44) Democrats Should Do the Honorable Thing and Refuse to Fund an Authoritarian Administration
Source: The UnPopulist
by Andy Craig

“Once again, Washington is facing the prospect of a government shutdown when congressional appropriations lapse at the end of this month. But this is anything but a normal shutdown standoff. Against the backdrop of an administration that is waging an unprecedented war on free speech, ginning up corrupt prosecutions of its opponents, facilitating unimaginable levels of self-dealing and personal grift, and subjecting states and cities to military occupation, this standoff cannot help but take on a heightened valence. If ever there was a time for a legislature to wield its power of the purse against a power-grabbing executive, this is it. And what are congressional Democrats — whose votes are essential to reach the 60-vote threshold in the Senate — reportedly demanding in exchange for keeping the government open? Their main condition is a temporary patch for health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.” (09/29/25)

45) To Take Down NGO Industrial Complex, Start with “Nonpartisan” Voter Registration
Source: The Federalist
by Parker Thayer

“In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, conservatives and moderates alike are crying out for the decimation of hyper-politicized nonprofit organizations and the ‘NGO complex’ that many believe enables and encourages left-wing extremism. The sentiment is correct, but the righteous anger is currently directionless, leading to dubious comments about ‘hate speech,’ vague notions of charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, and talk of investigations into Antifa funding, with no real sense of where to strike first. There needs to be a clear target, and it should be one easily hit for maximum effect. The ‘charitable’ voter registration industry is that target, and this is a uniquely opportune moment to hit it.” (09/29/25)

“If everybody is struggling to figure out what AI really is, or how it will affect our lives as a whole, one thing would seem to be certain: Gen Z is defined by AI in the way that flappers might have been by the radio or Boomers by the electric guitar. But the equation of AI and Gen Z misses a great deal of nuance — it misses both the more skeptical approach that many young people are quietly taking towards AI; and it misses that AI is exacerbating, not causing, an educational crisis that is affecting Gen Z more deeply than any particular technology and which necessitates urgent reform.” (09/29/25)

47) Trump’s Quest for Revenge is Leading Republicans Over the Edge

“I get it that Trump and his supporters have some reasons to be frustrated by events over the past 8 years or so. The Russian collusion charges that turned out to be complete inventions of the opposition party. The prosecutions by the NY AG for (at best) borderline victimless crimes for which no one in history had ever been previously prosecuted. The over-prosecution of rank-and-file January 6 protestor-rioters. The ‘election denier’ prosecutions in multiple states that look a lot like attacks on political speech (particularly when similar statements made by Democrats in 2016 went un-prosecuted). But there are two possible responses to this frustration …” (09/29/25)

48) Thoughts on the crisis of language loss and the steady narrowing of thought
Source: The Peaceful Revolutionist
by David S D’Amato

“The rate of language loss today is higher than it has ever been in recorded history. The data from the past several decades reveal that hundreds of languages were lost in those years, and that the rate of loss has accelerated over time and continues to do so today. Researchers estimate that more than 43% of the world’s approximately 7,100 languages are already endangered (some place this value as high as >50%), and they could be looking at extinction by the end of this century if current trends hold. … It is never just language that it lost, though this would be bad enough. The loss of a language is also the loss of unique cultural practices, oral traditions and myths, and specialized knowledge of the environment, etc., that may not obtain anywhere else on the planet.” (09/29/25)

49) The Government Has Been Shut Down for Months
Source: The American Prospect
by David Dayen & Whitney Curry Wimbish

“Talks at the White House on Monday aimed at preventing a government shutdown left both sides far apart on a deal. Earlier in the day, reports emerged that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) would consider a ten-day extension of government funding if Trump agreed to negotiate on enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies that expire at the end of the year. … Within a couple of hours, Schumer told reporters that he would not back a short-term funding agreement under any circumstances. But one bigger problem with the conversation around government funding, with less than 24 hours to the deadline, is the nature of the fight being picked. The negotiations and debates are operating under the premise that appropriations to federal agencies are flowing today and will stop flowing tomorrow, and that this is something political leaders want to avoid.” (09/30/25)

50) America Rebuilt the British System the Founders Fought to Escape
Source: Tenth Amendment Center
by Michael Boldin

“‘An elective despotism is not the government we fought for.’ Thomas Jefferson warned about the dangers of unchecked power even in a system where the people get to choose their leaders. But what if you were told that’s just what we ended up with? Because the system we live under today is virtually the same – in practice – as the British system the founders fought a long, bloody war to secede from. And it all gets down to sovereignty – or final authority. To the founders, any government that gets to determine the extent of its own power is the very definition of tyranny. America didn’t escape the British system. We rebuilt it.” (09/29/25)
