0)  Year-End Fundraiser Update: If I Had Feelings ...

The response to yesterday's "hey, it's my birthday!" fundraiser update was a "zero-dollar day."

If I was the kind of guy who had feelings, I guess they'd be hurt! Fortunately, according to my wife, I'll never have a heart attack, as that requires actually having a heart.

Our total (as of 5am on Tuesday) remains at $1,110.84, which is $1,639.66 short of our $5,501 goal. Wow, no feelings and he can't do math either, you may think, but no: Supporter GL has offered to "match funds" for half of our goal, once we raise the first $2,750.50.

PLEASE support the freedom movement's daily newspaper, in an amount reflect how much you value our decades of work bring it to you every non-holiday weekday (and even THIS holiday weekday -- it's Veterans Day, which I prefer to call by its older name, Armistice Day), at ...

1)  Senate ends 41-day government shutdown stalemate, sends bipartisan deal to House
Source: Fox News

"The shutdown stalemate that has dragged on in the Senate officially ended late Monday night, and it places Congress on a path to reopen the government later this week. Senators advanced a bipartisan funding package to end the government shutdown after a group of Senate Democrats broke from their colleagues and joined Republicans in their bid to reopen the government. ... Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., earlier Monday told Fox News Digital that he would bring the House back into session 'immediately' upon Senate passage of the legislation. He later told House Republicans on a lawmaker-only call that he anticipated a vote in their chamber midweek at the earliest, Fox News Digital was told." (11/10/25)

2)  Ukraine: Russian drone strike on Odesa damages energy, transport infrastructure
Source: Reuters

"A Russian drone attack on Ukraine's southern Odesa region damaged energy and transport infrastructure, injuring one person and sparking fires at multiple energy facilities, the regional governor said on Tuesday. The attack injured one person, sparked fires at various energy facilities and damaged a depot of the state-owned Ukrainian Railways." (11/11/25)

3)  UT: Judge denies GOP-passed congressional map
Source: Politico

"A Utah judge on Monday rejected a Republican-passed redistricting plan that created two more-competitive districts in the state — a win for Democrats who thought the map did not go far enough. In denying the new map, the judge put in place one of two options offered by plaintiffs that creates a solidly-Democratic district that covers Salt Lake City, giving the party its second win in the redistricting wars that have swept the nation ahead of the midterms. In her ruling, issued minutes before a midnight deadline, Judge Dianna Gibson said the Republican map 'fails to abide by and conform with the requirements' of a 2018 voter-approved ballot measure that created nonpartisan redistricting standards for the state Legislature." 4)  Palestine: Two murdered in Israeli drone strike
Source: Al Jazeera [Qatari state media]

"At least two people including a child have been killed in an Israeli drone strike east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, according to Al Jazeera reporters in the besieged Palestinian territory. Hamas condemned Israel’s 'daily and continuous violations' since a truce came into effect last month, accusing it of maintaining a campaign of bombardments and demolitions across the besieged enclave. In a statement published on Telegram on Monday, the group said Israeli attacks had killed 271 people, over 90 percent of them civilians, and wounded 622 more since the ceasefire took effect on October 10." 5)  Trump "Pardons" Giuliani, Other Co-Conspirators in 2020 Election Theft Attempts
Source: New York Times

"President Trump has granted pre-emptive pardons to Rudolph W. Giuliani and others accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to an official familiar with the matter. The official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said on Monday that those pardoned include John Eastman, a lawyer who advised Mr. Trump’s 2020 campaign, and Sidney Powell, a conservative pundit who was briefly a public face of his campaign. The presidential pardons, which would only apply in federal court, are largely symbolic. None of those named are currently facing federal charges, and the pardons cannot shield them from ongoing state-level prosecutions." (11/10/25)

“A Chinese official threatened to behead the Japanese prime minister after she suggested Japan could become involved in a war over Taiwan. Sanae Takaichi, the Japanese leader, said Chinese military action against Taiwan, such as a blockade, could trigger a ‘survival-threatening situation,’ which could force Japan to become involved. In response, Xue Jian, China’s consul general in Osaka, threatened to ‘cut off a dirty neck without a moment of hesitation’ in a post on X along with a news article citing Ms Takaichi’s comments.” (11/10/25)

7)  SCOTUS takes up major elections dispute over counting of late-arriving mail ballots
Source: CBS News

“The Supreme Court on Monday said it will decide whether federal law prohibits states from counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day. The legal battle before the court involves Mississippi’s procedures for counting late-arriving absentee ballots …. In Mississippi, state law allows for absentee ballots postmarked by the day of the election to be counted so long as they’re received up to five days after. Mississippi’s measure was initially enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic and then made permanent. Sixteen states in all will accept and count a mail-in ballot if it arrives after election day but is postmarked on or before it, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.” (11/10/25)

8)  France: Sarkozy given early jail release
Source: United Press International

“France’s former President Nicolas Sarkozy will be released from jail as he seeks appeal of his recent conviction for alleged criminal conspiracy attempt. In September, Sarkozy was convicted of conspiracy stemming from campaign finance funding from the late Libyan strongman leader Moammar Gaddafi. He could be set free as early as Monday from La Sante prison while awaiting a pending appeal trial in March, according to the BBC and CNN. … Sarkozy is barred from leaving France as part of his release, is forbidden from contacting French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin in addition to other names implicated in the ongoing criminal case. … Sarkozy is the first French leader to be imprisoned since Nazi collaborator Philippe Pétain in 1945 for treason.” (11/10/25)

9)  Trump threatens BBC with frivolous lawsuit
Source: New York Post

“President Trump threatened the British Broadcasting Corporation with a $1 billion lawsuit in Florida Monday if it did not retract a news program that featured doctored footage of Trump’s remarks ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In a letter from Trump’s outside counsel obtained by The Post, the BBC was given until 5 p.m. ET Friday to ‘retract the false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements made about President Trump’ in its ‘Panorama’ program that aired Oct. 28, 2024, titled ‘Trump: A Second Chance?’ … On Monday, BBC Chair Samir Shah conceded in a statement to a UK parliamentary committee that “we accept that the way the speech was edited did give the impression of a direct call for violent action.” (11/10/25)

Source: The Hill

“The Supreme Court rejected a long-shot effort Monday to overturn its ruling guaranteeing same-sex marriage nationwide. Former Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis directly asked the justices to overrule the 2015 landmark decision after a jury awarded damages to a couple whom Davis refused to issue a marriage license. … In a brief order, the justices declined to take up Davis’s appeal, alongside dozens of other petitions up for consideration at the justices’ weekly closed-door conference. 11) Lukoil Declares Force Majeure on Iraqi Oil After Sanctions
Source: Bloomberg

“Russia’s Lukoil PJSC declared force majeure on oil shipments from its giant West Qurna 2 field in Iraq, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The move is a sign that sanctions against Russia’s No. 2 oil producer are beginning to impact its international operations. The US announced penalties against the firm last month as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to ramp up pressure on Moscow to end its war in Ukraine. Declaring force majeure gives Lukoil the right to skip contractual obligations, but it doesn’t automatically mean shipments from West Qurna 2 will halt. The company owns 75% of the field, which was pumping more than 480,000 barrels a day back in April, according to Interfax.” (11/10/25)

12) Democrats reveal whistleblower details of Ghislaine Maxwell prison “luxuries”

“Ghislaine Maxwell, the Jeffrey Epstein confidante and convicted child sex trafficker, is being waited on ‘hand and foot’ by the staff at her minimum security prison camp while she prepares a request that President Donald Trump commute her sentence, according to whistleblower revelations made public Monday by House Democrats. ‘The deference and servility to Ms. Maxwell have reached such preposterous levels that one of the top officials at the facility has complained that he is ‘sick of having to be Maxwell’s bitch,” according to a letter to Trump from Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. … Raskin’s letter said Maxwell has received customized meals personally delivered to her cell, after-hours time in a private exercise area and access to a service puppy. Raskin said Maxwell was also afforded private meetings with visitors arranged by the warden, complete with snacks.” (11/10/25)

13) Old man yells at air traffic controllers
Source: Honolulu Star-Advertiser

“President Donald Trump demanded air traffic controllers return to work today as government-directed flight cuts and air traffic staffing absences continue to wreak havoc with U.S. air travel. Trump added that he will reward those who did not take any time off during the 41-day federal government shutdown, but it is not clear how many controllers could qualify. Trump said he would welcome the resignation of those who took time off. ‘All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked,’’ …The shutdown has led to shortages of air traffic controllers who, like other federal employees, have not been paid for weeks. Officials said it is unclear under the controllers’ union contract how they could be docked or what the source of the $10,000 bonus Trump proposed.” (11/10/25)

A slow-moving vehicle was seen approaching the landmark Red Fort attraction in Delhi, early Monday — with the car exploding after coming to a stop at a red light, CNN reported. ‘An explosion occurred in that vehicle, the passengers in the vehicle and people in surrounding vehicles were impacted,’ Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told reporters. … Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the explosion, which originated from a Hyundai i20 car, India’s federal home minister, Amit Shah, confirmed.” (11/10/25)

Source: US News & World Report

“Police in St. Petersburg have detained Diana Loginova, a teenage street musician already jailed twice for short stints after performing anti-Kremlin songs, as she left prison, state media and her supporters said on Monday. … Loginova was due to be released on Monday, but was instead taken to a police station in central St. Petersburg where the state RIA news agency cited a law enforcement source as saying she was expected to be charged with another public order offence that could see her jailed again for another short stint. Separately, court records show Loginova faces more charges for discrediting the army.” (11/10/25)

The offer was delivered to the state news agency RIA Novosti and first reported by Reuters on Sunday. ‘Secretary of State Marco Rubio and I understand the need for regular communication,’ Lavrov said. ‘It is important for discussing the Ukrainian issue and promoting the bilateral agenda. Source: CNBC

“The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday will ‘effectively prohibit business aviation’ at a dozen major U.S. airports, adding to flight restrictions for commercial airlines as air traffic controller shortages snarl travel in the government shutdown, a trade group said. Last week, the Trump administration ordered U.S. commercial airlines to cut their schedules to ease strains on air traffic controllers who are working without their regular paychecks in the shutdown. 19) CA: Pol reintroduces state split proposal after Prop. 50 passes
Source: SFGate

“Amid the passage last week of Proposition 50, which approves newly drawn U.S. House maps in California to favor Democrats during next year’s midterm elections in response to Republican gerrymandering efforts in other states, one California politician is pushing a new plan as a way for Republicans to fight back: to split the state down the middle. State Assemblyman James Gallagher, who represents several counties north of Sacramento, spoke firmly to the Shasta County board of supervisors during a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 6, saying the passage of Prop. 50 was a ‘catalyst’ for him to reintroduce a resolution that would form a new state out of multiple dissatisfied California counties. The proposed new 51st American state would sever the entirety of more rural inland California from the coast.” (11/10/25)

They were up in the air for about an hour,’ Engie spokesperson Hellen Smeets told POLITICO Monday morning. The first report of the three drones came shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday, Smeet said, adding that the sightings had no impact on the plant operations. Belgium’s national Crisis Center, which is currently monitoring the situation, confirmed the incident. Earlier in the evening, air traffic at Liège Airport was briefly suspended after multiple drone reports, with flights halted around 7:30 p.m. and resuming less than an hour later.” (11/10/25)

Source: Future of Freedom Foundation
by Richard M Ebeling

“I first met the free-market journalist Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993) in June of 1974 at an Austrian economics conference in South Royalton, Vermont. I had been reading his articles and books for years, since I was around 14 or 15 years old, not long after I became interested in classical-liberal and libertarian ideas. His famous volume Economics in One Lesson (1946), which is now celebrating its 80th anniversary, had helped open my eyes to the nature of the market economy and the contradictions in and dangers from a wide variety of interventionist and socialist policies.” (11/10/25)

22) The First Amendment Won’t Go Quietly
Source: The Atlantic
by Quinta Jurecic

“Early last month, the White House convened a meeting of right-wing influencers for a livestreamed discussion of antifa and the danger they claim it poses. Over the course of the roundtable, President Donald Trump suggested that protests against him had been organized by mysterious funders, who he hinted could soon be in ‘deep trouble.’ He complained about television networks that were biased against him but praised CBS, whose parent company had recently been purchased by a Trump-friendly billionaire. And he touted an executive order that demanded the Justice Department bring charges for burning American flags. ‘We took the freedom of speech away,’ the president said. Like so many of Trump’s pronouncements, this was something of an exaggeration …. But Trump’s comment did reflect a deeper truth about his administration’s effort to force an abrupt contraction of American civic space.” (11/10/25)

23) California’s Fast-Food Minimum Wage Hike Is Killing Jobs
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille

“In 2023, California adopted a law that raised the minimum wage to $20 per hour. It also created a Fast Food Council with the power to further increase wages by dictate every year. Twenty bucks an hour is a nice, round number which is probably why state lawmakers picked it — though it’s not clear why they stopped there. After all, if you’re going to create prosperity by command, why not shoot for the moon and make all the Golden State’s fry cooks millionaires? But it’s just as well that they didn’t go further — that hike to $20 per hour is killing jobs as it is.” (11/10/25)

“If I were to sum up the mindset of New Yorkers who elected Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City, it would be We want something for nothing, and we want the rich to pay for it. Instead, they will get nothing for something, and they will pay for it with a degraded quality of life. Mamdani’s victory was paved with ingratitude for the blessings New Yorkers receive daily. The mindset demanding ‘something for nothing’ from society is not just a political phenomenon, but a profound lapse in economic understanding and moral character.” (11/10/25)

26) Trump’s $2,000 Tariff Dividend Payments Would Explode the Deficit by Nearly $4 Trillion
Source: Beat the Press
by Dean Baker

“I learned basic arithmetic skills in third grade. I wasn’t exceptional; everyone in my public school third grade class learned them. Of course, we all can now use computers to have calculations done for us in a fraction of a second. But still, somehow we have major national debates that show zero understanding of even the most basic arithmetic. The latest example is the $2,000 tariff dividend check that Trump is promising us. The arithmetic here is about as simple as it gets. We have roughly 340 million people in the country. Let’s say 10 percent don’t get the check because they meet Trump’s category of ‘high-income’. That leaves over 300 million people getting Trump’s $2,000 checks. That comes to more than $600 billion. Trump’s tariffs are raising around $270 billion. That means we will be paying out $330 billion more in Trump tariff dividend checks than he is raising in tariff revenue.” (11/10/25)

“In last Tuesday’s elections, Trump’s regal apathy made him all but useless to his party. He never campaigned in person for Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican nominee for governor of New Jersey. He never even endorsed Winsome Earle-Sears, the party’s nominee for governor of Virginia. But Trump had plenty to say about himself. Two days before the election, he posted, ‘I’M GETTING READY TO WATCH PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP (ME!) ON 60 MINUTES.’ On Wednesday morning, hours after the Democratic sweep, Republican senators went to the White House for a breakfast with Trump. He used the occasion to distance himself from the losers. In fact, he bragged that the party’s losses underscored how special he was.” (11/10/25)

Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist
by Caitlin Johnstone

“It’s interesting how much the IDF’s constant ceasefire violations in Gaza and Lebanon line up with the way people familiar with Israeli culture say Israelis like to test everyone’s boundaries to find out exactly how much they can get away with. There are two terms, ‘shitat matzliach’ and ‘freier’, which come up over and over again whenever you see people discussing the prevalence of this obnoxious behavior in Israeli society. ‘Shitat matzliach’ translates to ‘successful method’, and basically means trying to exploit people in the hope that they’re naive or not paying attention and then backing off if they call you out. ‘Frier’ roughly translates to ‘sucker’, i.e. the sort of person that shitat matzliach will work on.” (11/10/25)

That is why news of the Trump administration’s campaign of bombing boats off the coast of Venezuela and in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico should be so disturbing to all Americans. It is a glaring example of the president’s ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ approach to the world.” (11/10/25)

31) Cool heads douse a hot shutdown
Source: Christian Science Monitor
by staff

“This year in Washington so far has been one of gloves-off politics rather than handshake compromises. More than 150 lawsuits have been filed against the Trump administration’s actions. Then, starting Oct. 1, Democrats in the Senate voted 14 times not to fund the government until a key demand on health care was met. The shutdown has been the longest in United States history. On Sunday, however, a gaggle of three former governors (Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire along with independent Sen. Angus King of Maine) were able to broker a deal and achieve a 60-40 Senate vote that is expected to end the shutdown in coming days.” (11/10/25)

Source: Common Dreams
by Tony Andrews

“With everything that the Trump administration is doing to militarize our cities and neighborhoods, it can be easy to forget about all of the damage that Elon Musk has done, and continues to do. He and his Department of Government Efficiency minions destroyed the US Agency for International Development, resulting in incredible misery and thousands of deaths in countries around the world. They fired thousands of dedicated civil servants and embedded themselves in all major government agencies, and combined our personal data in illegal ways that make us all more vulnerable. … he continues to use his vast wealth to subvert democracy both here and around the world, and will continue to do so unless we fight back. One of the pillars of his empire is Starlink, which leverages Musk’s relationship with President Donald Trump to help it acquire additional spectrum licenses and crush its competition.” (11/10/25)

34) Five laws FIRE wants on the books to protect free speech
Source: Expression
by staff

“Even with the robust protections offered to us by the First Amendment and the decades of decisions made by our federal and Supreme courts, defending free speech is still difficult business. Infringements on our rights often take advantage of loopholes and gaps in our legal frameworks, leading to actions — particularly from those in power — that violate our expressive rights and chill free speech. That’s why FIRE has long championed a variety of proposals to help safeguard free expression from government attacks and abuse, including federal legislation. But what would that legislation look like?” (11/10/25)

36) Career Politicians: The Leeches Who Call Themselves “Servants”
Source: International Guild of Professional Anarchists
by Alexander Snitker

“They shuffle onto the podium, eyes glassy with rehearsed humility, and insist they’ve spent their lives *serving* you. Joe Biden, Dick Cheney, Nancy Pelosi, three names, one grift. Fifty years, sixty years, seventy years of ‘public service.’ If that phrase still leaves a taste in your mouth that isn’t bile, you haven’t been paying attention. A servant clocks in, does the work, and clocks out. A servant doesn’t die in office or get wheeled out feet-first after half a century of sucking the marrow from the national bone. These people are not servants. They are leeches, bloated, pale, and latched to the artery of the state.” (11/10/25)

37) Michelle Obama tries so hard to play the victim that she instead provides comedy gold
Source: New York Post
by Miranda Devine

“It’s no coincidence that multimillionaire Michelle Obama is on a self-pity jag as she promotes her latest expensive coffee table memoir as her husband’s Democratic Party succumbs to its socialist fringe. You see it everywhere. Democratic Marie Antoinettes moaning about their plight and the ingratitude of the serfs as the revolution devours their dominion. For the former first lady, a week of softball interviews for her new $50 tome, ‘The Look’, has been dominated by bizarre complaints about her time in the White House with President Barack Obama. She is rewriting history to claim bitterly that, as the first black first couple, ‘we didn’t get the grace that I think some other families have gotten.’ Whom does she think she’s kidding? Martians?” (11/09/25)

38) What You Won’t Read About Ukraine in Your Newspaper
Source: Antiwar.com
by Ted Snider

“There is much of significance happening in Ukraine right now that is being reported either lightly or not at all by the mainstream Western media in an apparent attempt to harmonize their reporting with Kiev’s narrative in order to keep hope high and economic and military support flowing. Though the mainstream media has begun to report on the Russian encirclement of the Donetsk city of Pokrovsk, it is failing to report on how dire and how ominous the situation is. The reporting suggests that the battlefield situation is being stabilized, that the Russian losses are enormous, and that the loss of Pokrovsk would be strategically insignificant. None of those claims is true.” (1/10/25)

41) The Most Frustrating Thing About the Shutdown Cave
Source: The American Prospect
by David Dayen

“My colleague Bob Kuttner has ably explained the particulars and the political dynamics of the sudden surrender on the government shutdown from eight Senate Democrats (with Chuck Schumer’s tacit support), what I’m calling the Cave Caucus. Senators dissatisfied with this deal are going to deny unanimous consent to draw out the conclusion, in part to let the situation sink in for the House, where the reaction has been sharply negative. But House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) only needs his own party members to get the bill passed, and he has delivered tough votes throughout the year. I don’t think House Republicans will rescue the Cave Caucus. I share a lot of the frustrations expressed all over social media. But the biggest one for me comes on page 12 of the continuing resolution that advanced in the Senate last night.” (11/10/25)

42) A Puzzling Protest
Source: Common Sense
by Paul Jacob

“Talk about a blowout: a few days ago, Texans overwhelmingly supported Proposition 16 to amend their state constitution to clarify that noncitizens of U.S. cannot vote in state and local elections in Texas. The vote: Yes, 72%; No, 28%. Not everybody is happy. Jeff Forrester, who happens to be running against Rep. Candy Noble, a major sponsor of this very amendment — just a coincidence I’m sure — professes confusion about why anybody would care about this question. He asserts that the state constitution already prohibits noncitizen voting and has flung himself into a major Twitter‑X tussle over the matter with the group I lead, Americans for Citizen Voting.” (11/10/25)

43) “Regime Collapse” Is Not a Serious Approach to the Venezuela Problem
Source: The American Conservative
by Joseph Addington

“[T]he risks inherent to any kind of ‘regime collapse’ approach are numerous and severe, and far outweigh any potential benefits. Most pertinently, when any government collapses, the resulting power vacuum is necessarily unpredictable and chaotic, and leaves room for all kinds of actors, state and nonstate, bad and good, to exert their will. Such a situation is not generally conducive to an orderly transition of power of any kind, let alone a transition to democracy. Here the expected comparison is usually Libya, after the bombing campaign that destroyed the Gaddafi regime, but Venezuelan society is not comparable to that of Libya; it is not characterized by a fractured, tribal society and fundamentalist revolutionaries. Instead the major danger is that Venezuela becomes a mid-20th century Colombia: a weak state inundated by brutal organized crime, incapable of defending itself or of disrupting the conflicts between cartels and narcorevolutionary groups fighting over disputed territory.” (11/10/25)

44) Donald Trump had the solution to the drug war … in 1990
Source: Orange County Register
by Sal Rodriguez

“Once upon a time, a real estate developer named Donald Trump understood the folly of the war on drugs. ‘We’re losing badly the war on drugs,’ he said at a luncheon held by the Miami Herald in April 1990. ‘You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.’ … If President Trump had any guts, he would be channeling the Trump of 1990 and pushing for a complete overhaul of American drug policy prioritizing treatment and reducing the harms of drug abuse. Instead, he is going all-in on an illegal policy of executing people who happen to be on boats in the Caribbean and declaring that he’s saving tens of thousands of lives each time.” (11/09/25)

Source: Town Hall
by William Marshall

“Those of us grossly disappointed in Kash Patel’s performance as FBI director, despite our high hopes at his appointment, now have an objective test case by which he might be judged fairly. It seems that dogged citizen sleuths were able to do what vaunted FBI investigators had been unable – or unwilling – to do after nearly five years of work and millions of dollars spent: Identify the elusive individual who planted the pipe bombs outside RNC and DNC headquarters on January 6, 2021. Many of us on the right supporting the President’s agenda, me included, had suspected from the jump that the pipe bomb suspect was a government operative. And that his or her goal was to create a distraction on January 6 that would divert police attention during the giant Deep State influence operation that was the January 6 ‘insurrection’.” (11/10/25)

46) You Don’t Have to Be a Commie to Stand with Venezuela
Source: exile in happy valley
by Nicky Reid

“As long as there is a system in place that offers one class of people a monopoly on the use of force, the government will always be a den for despotism regardless of whether the scam is dressed up in the trappings of socialism, capitalism, democracy or nationalism. Just so long as the sanctity of the state is left intact, the results will always ultimately be the same. This was the painful revelation that ultimately led a Bolivarian-Guevarist like me to embrace free market anti-capitalism and post-left anarchism, but some things never change, and this includes my solidarity with what’s left of the Bolivarian Revolution as it faces down the barrels of total war at the hands of an empire that it had humiliated one too many times.” (11/09/25)

48) Hunger games: The government shutdown showcases food-stamp fraud and follies
Source: JimBovard.com
by James Bovard

“The plight of 42 million food-stamp recipients is the federal-government shutdown’s most inflammatory issue. Federal judges ordered the Trump administration to pay food-stamp benefits regardless. Team Trump first offered to pay 50% of this month’s benefits, then raised its bid to 65% and now says it will pay 100% while appealing the court case. Democrats and their media allies claim President Trump is ‘weaponizing hunger.’ Full benefits will likely be paid in the coming weeks as Congress and Trump end their standoff. Federal spending on food stamps — also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — has soared from $17 billion in 2000 to $100 billion last year. How did so many Americans come to rely on Washington for their next meal?” (11/09/25)

49) The Secretary of All Wars
Source: In These Times
by Alberto Toscano

“President Donald Trump on September 5 signed the 200th executive order of his second term, bypassing the congressional approval constitutionally required for a full renaming of the Department of Defense by introducing the ‘“Department of War’ as a ’secondary’ designation. Ever preoccupied with names (remember the ‘Gulf of America’?), Trump’s order aims to advertise ’our willingness and availability to wage war to secure what is ours.’ At the public signing, Trump presented the 1947 name change as the end of a century and a half of American military victories: ’And then we decided to go woke and we changed the name to the Department of Defense.’ The millions of casualties of U.S. wars since, from Korea and Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan — wars replete with racist justifications for mass murder — would no doubt be surprised to know they were victims of ’woke’.” (11/10/25)

by José Joaquín Fernández

“On October 29, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) lowered its benchmark interest rate (Federal Funds Rate) by 25 basis points, setting it between 3.75% and 4%. This decision follows a similar rate cut made in September. Notably, these decisions were made while inflation continued to rise, and remained much above the Fed’s long-term target of 2%. Given these factors, the Fed should not have cut federal funds rate, but raised them. Let’s explain.” (11/09/25)
