0) Looking For Love (From Our Readers -- Year-End Fundraiser!)Hey, everyone ...
After a week of working from a small laptop screen while slowly beginning my family's move to our new residence, I got my full computer rig set up here yesterday ... and what better way to test things out and catch any missed tasks or damaged equipment than with a short (20-item) weekend special edition?
Our year-end fundraiser is stuck at $1,270.84.
Our goal is $5,501.
Once we've raised $2,750.50, supporter GL has generously pledged to "match funds" for the other half.
Our "mini-goal" for Monday is to be at $2,000. We're $729.16 short.
Please support the freedom movement's daily newspaper at:
https://news.rationalreview.com/support-rrndWe provide a service that several thousand people consider valuable enough to subscribe to, and to read on a daily basis.
Ours is a modest goal, not a huge ask. Please think about how much value you get out of the Internet's longest-running daily news and commentary update for libertarians, then return some of that value as financial support TODAY at:
https://news.rationalreview.com/support-rrndEnjoy your weekend!
Yours in liberty,

1) MTG to quit Congress after Trump feud
Source: BBC News [UK state media]
“Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she will resign from office in January, an unexpected turn for the high-profile Republican days after a public feud with President Donald Trump. Greene, who became one of Trump’s Maga superstars in US politics, posted a video statement on social media announcing she would leave Congress on 5 January 2026. … While she announced her departure from the House of Representatives, reports in US media have indicated Greene has shown an interest in running for state office — either as Georgia governor or for a Senate seat. … their relationship soured after Greene became one of a handful of Republicans to back a petition for the release of all files held by the US government related to [Jeffrey] Epstein.” (11/21/25)

2) SCOTUS temporarily restores Texas’s new congressional gerrymander
Source: Texas Tribune
“Texas is back to using its 2025 congressional map, at least temporarily, after Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito granted the state’s request to pause a court ruling that would have required using the lines legislators drew in 2021. The high court has not yet decided what map Texas should use while the court battle over the legality of the map plays out over the coming weeks and months; Friday’s ruling is a short-term pause while they make that decision. … President Donald Trump pushed Texas to redraw its map over the summer, hoping to secure five additional GOP seats to shore up the party’s narrow majority in the U.S. House through the midterms. On Tuesday, a federal court barred Texas from using the new map for 2026, saying there was evidence state lawmakers had racially gerrymandered in redrawing the lines.” (11/21/25)

3) OH: Cop acquitted in murder of pregnant woman
Source: CNN
“An Ohio officer who shot and killed a pregnant Black mother in a supermarket parking lot after she was accused of shoplifting has been acquitted of all charges, including murder. Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb could have faced up to life in prison. The Blendon Township police officer had pleaded not guilty to murder, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault in the death of 21-year-old Ta’Kiya Young. Bodycam recordings showed Young refusing to exit her car and then turning her steering wheel to the right, before her car began slowly rolling forward against the body of Grubb, who fired one shot into her chest through the windshield.” (11/21/25)

4) Venezuela: Regime will deem Machado a “fugitive” if she travels to accept Nobel
Source: CBS News
“Nobel laureate and Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado will be considered a ‘fugitive’ if she emerges from hiding to collect the honor in Norway, Venezuela’s attorney general told Agence France-Presse on Thursday. Machado has expressed interest in attending the ceremony, which will be held in Oslo on December 10. ‘By being outside Venezuela and having numerous criminal investigations, she is considered a fugitive,’ Attorney General Tarek William Saab told the AFP. Saab added that Machado is accused of ‘acts of conspiracy, incitement of hatred, terrorism,’ and noted that she is under investigation for her support of the United States’ deployment of military forces in the Caribbean. ” (11/21/25)

5) FBI spied on a Signal group chat of immigration activists, records reveal
Source: The Guardian [UK]
“The FBI spied on a private Signal group chat of immigrants’ rights activists who were organizing ‘courtwatch’ efforts in New York City this spring, law enforcement records shared with the Guardian indicate. … A ‘joint situational information report’ from the FBI and the New York police department (NYPD), dated 28 August 2025, quoted from a chat on Signal, the encrypted messaging app, and also characterized the court watchers as ‘anarchist violent extremist actors,’ The two-page report was distributed to other law enforcement agencies across the US.” (11/21/25)

6) One cat death is a tragedy. 43,000 human deaths is a statistic
Source: Orange County Register
by Steven Greenhut
“For those who missed the internationally publicized brouhaha, a tabby named Kit Kat had lived in the city’s Mission, where he sauntered into bodegas and bars. Dubbed the Mayor of 16th Street, Kit Kat was by all accounts a charming character. Then on October 27, the unthinkable happened: a Waymo self-driving taxi ran him over. Kit Kat’s fans have erected memorials and took to social media to mourn. There’s nothing wrong with mourning the death of a neighborhood cat. … my problem isn’t with the upset, but with the proposed solutions. As The New York Times reported, ‘Jackie Fielder, a progressive San Francisco supervisor who represents the Mission District, has been among the most vocal critics. She introduced a city resolution after Kit Kat’s death that calls for the state Legislature to let voters decide if driverless cars can operate where they live.'” (11/21/25)

7) The GOP Is Realizing That Trump Won’t Be Around Forever
Source: The Atlantic
by Idrees Kahloon
“The reality that Donald Trump’s presidency will end in January 2029 is already making Republicans restless. Normally, Trump angers, exhausts, and eventually prevails over elected Republicans — not vice versa. Just this week, though, rebellious Republicans forced the release of the so-called Epstein files in defiance of Trump, who had spent months trying to suppress them before abruptly reversing course. Plenty of other cracks are showing too: Staunch allies of the president are mouthing critiques that would have been unfathomable a year ago. These disputes are the prelude to an ugly battle over the post-Trump Republican Party.” (11/21/25)

8) The Capitalist-Socialist Asymmetry
Source: Free Association
by Sheldon Richman
“Free-marketeers have long pointed out a particular asymmetry between capitalism and socialism (whether of the international or national variety). While anyone in a capitalist society would have a right to engage in socialism (as anyone can do now in our hampered market economy), the reverse would not hold: under socialism — that is, a centrally planned economy, democratic or not — no one would be free to engage in ‘capitalist acts between consenting adults’ (to use Robert Nozick’s phrase from Anarchy, State, and Utopia). It would upset the plan.” (11/21/25)

9) Let Neighborhoods Work: Bans on Home Businesses Are Out of Control
Source: The Daily Economy
by Jason Sorens
“Do you sell cupcakes, run a home photography studio, or tutor kids in your living room? If so, you might be breaking the law. In the US, zoning ordinances often treat modest home enterprises as threats to the neighborhood. If you’re just running an online business, local governments generally won’t bother you, but if clients are coming to your home, then they try to limit the visibility and impact of your business. Have these regulations gone too far? Should state governments tell local governments to leave home-based businesses alone, within certain limits?” (11/21/25)

10) Smart Cities Will Kill Freedom.
Source: Independent Institute
by Matthew B Crawford
“Transformative urban planning has long been an ambition of the high-modernist mindset. Its goals are usually public health, efficiency, beauty and something more elusive—order. Some cities that have received the full treatment over the past two centuries are wonderful places to visit despite their controversial remakings; see Paris …. Others, like Brasilia and Chandigarh (both designed from the ground up by Le Corbusier), quickly became ghost towns, full of high-modernist buildings and plazas of impressive conceptual ambition through which the wind whistled forlornly, eventually to be repurposed by squatters or stripped of building materials for use in the surrounding shanty towns where urban life carries on in defiance of the master plan.” (11/21/25)

11) What Americans Should Understand About the Military Disobeying Illegal Orders
Source: The Bulwark
by Mark Hertling
“No one in the American military swears allegiance to any individual. The oaths are not pledges of loyalty to a party, a personality, or a political movement. Loyalty is pledged to the Constitution — and officers further take that obligation ‘without mental reservation,’ knowing full well it may someday require them to stand with courage between unlawful authority and the people they serve.” (11/21/25)

“Argentina’s Ministry of Deregulation — yes, it now has one — reports that by June 2024, little more than half a year after chainsaw-wielding libertarian candidate Javier Milei won the presidential election, the housing market boomed … into a magnificent recovery.” (11/21/25)

13) Building Proficient Learners
Source: Foundation for Economic Education
by Kym Kent
“Recently, a colleague handed me an article by The Free Press, ‘The College Kids Who Can’t Do Basic Math,’ and asked for my thoughts. The article cited a November 6, 2025, report from the University of California San Diego (UCSD), which revealed that the math skills of approximately one in eight of their first-year students were below middle-school level. In the wake of earlier reports of Harvard offering remedial math classes, the fact that UCSD was offering similar classes was not surprising. As I processed what I was reading, I wrestled with conflicting internal responses.” (11/21/25)

14) Some Democrats Urge the Military To “Refuse Illegal Orders.” What if the IRS, ATF, and EPA Did the Same?
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille
“I favor government employees defying orders and sabotaging the instruments of the state as much as the next libertarian (well, maybe a little more). But I suspect the Democratic lawmakers urging members of the military and the intelligence community to ‘refuse illegal orders’ haven’t entirely thought through their positions. While their advice is commendable so far as it goes, as officials of a political party known for its expansive view of the role of government their words are likely to come back and bite them on their collective asses. It’s hard to imagine them being so enthusiastic about a reboot of this message directed at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and IRS agents under a Democratic administration.” (11/21/25)

15) How CDC and FDA Defrauded the American Public about Serious Vaccine Harms
Source: Brownstone Institute
by Peter C Gøtzsche
“In 1986, manufacturers were granted almost complete immunity from liability for injuries caused by vaccines. This meant they had no incentive to ensure that vaccines are safe before they brought them onto the market. People can file claims against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is therefore not interested in having any of its agencies, including the CDC and the Food and Drug Agency (FDA), publish studies demonstrating vaccine harms – a perfect set-up for the industry. HHS was required to submit to Congress biennial vaccine safety reports but a lawsuit revealed that it had not sent a single report in 30 years.” (11/21/25)
