“Tehran residents say the Iranian capital has endured what they described as its worst night of aerial bombardment, as the US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, followed Donald Trump’s suggestion on Monday the war could soon be over with a warning of more strikes to come. … Israel, which launched an air campaign against Iran with the US on 28 February, on Tuesday said it had hit a weapons development facility among a wave of strikes. … At least 1,245 civilians have been killed, including 194 children, by the US-Israeli war on Iran, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists in Iran group. In Lebanon, at least 486 people have been killed by Israeli bombing, while 11 have been killed in Israel. Seven US troops have been confirmed dead and 140 injured, eight severely.” (03/11/26)

“The special election to replace former Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene is projected to head to a runoff after none of the candidates secured a majority of the votes on Tuesday night. Republican Clay Fuller, who received President Donald Trump’s endorsement, is projected to face Democrat Shawn Harris to represent Georgia’s 14th congressional district, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS. 3) Russia: Ukrainian missile strike hits Bryansk military factory

“Ukraine hit a ‘key’ military factory in a missile strike Tuesday on Russia’s western city of Bryansk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said after Moscow gave a toll of six dead in the attack. … In a video posted on social media by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine purportedly showing the attack, a building is rocked by multiple explosions, with plumes of black smoke rising from the site. Zelensky called the strike ‘a completely justified response to the aggressor.’ Russia earlier accused Kyiv of a “terrorist” attack in Bryansk that it said killed six civilians and wounded at least 37 people. 4) AL: Ivey commutes death sentence of man who didn’t kill anyone

“Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey commuted on Tuesday the death sentence of Charles ‘Sonny’ Burton to life without parole, saying his execution, which was set for Thursday, would be ‘unjust.’ In 1991, Burton was one of six men involved in the robbery of an AutoZone store in Talladega that ended with the murder of a customer, Doug Battle; Burton did not pull the trigger in the killing. ‘Doug Battle was brutally murdered by Derrick DeBruce while shopping in an auto parts store. But DeBruce was ultimately sentenced to life without parole. Charles Burton did not shoot the victim, did not direct the triggerman to shoot the victim and had already left the store by the time the shooting occurred. Yet Mr. Burton was set to be executed while DeBruce was allowed to live out his life in prison,’ Ivey said in a statement.” (03/10/26)

5) Hungary: Orban orders regime to hold some $82 million in stole Ukrainian cash and gold

“Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has ordered that a shipment of Ukrainian cash and gold [stolen] last week by Hungarian authorities be held in custody for up to 60 days while his country’s tax authority investigates the case. The gold and the money was being transported through Hungary by road when Hungary [stole] it last Thursday. Authorities said they suspected money laundering. The shipment included $40 million and 35 million euros in cash, as well as 9 kilograms (19.8 pounds) of gold — worth, based on the current exchange rates, about $82 million. Activist Evelyn Pineda, who lives with HIV along with her 10-year-old son, told Radio Martí that medications are often unavailable and that when they do arrive, ‘you go to pick them up and they are expired.’ … Workers at the state pharmacy located on Aranguren Street in Guanabacoa said the drugs are part of international donations intended for antiretroviral treatment. Kobayashi conducted her own radiation surveys before reopening the inn in 2016. Now, she and other monitors share radiation data as part of efforts to rebuild this once-bustling textile town. ‘These empty lots used to be filled with shops,’ Kobayashi says of the pre-disaster town as she heads to a radiation monitoring lab, walking past a kindergarten she attended as a child. 10) Judge scolds Live Nation and Justice Department for secret settlement talks

“A federal judge scolded attorneys for the Justice Department and Live Nation for secretly negotiating a settlement to resolve allegations the ticket giant operated as a monopoly while the trial was underway. Judge Arun Subramanian called the head of the Justice Department’s antitrust division, Omar Assefi, and Live Nation’s chief executive, Michael Rapino, into court Tuesday to answer questions after he was blindsided by the deal. On Monday the Justice Department and Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, announced they reached a settlement they said will benefit consumers by giving them more options and lowering prices. As part of the preparations for a possible listing, SpaceX has also explored the possibility of securing early inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 index. Instead, the president proposed an alternative draft law suggesting national resources that could be used instead of European loans to pay for further investments in defense. Subsequent Polish governments have boosted Poland’s defense spending since Russia’s full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine in 2022. But while the liberal government led by Donald Tusk is happy to coordinate efforts with the European Union, the nationalist president has proven more euro-skeptic and maintained a friendlier rapport with the Trump administration. The rollout comes despite an ongoing class action lawsuit in California, filed by Uber drivers who argue the move discriminates against men. Uber said around one-fifth of its drivers in the US are women, although the ratio varies by city. “The U.S. FDA on Tuesday approved leucovorin, a decades-old generic drug, for use against an ultra-rare disorder called cerebral folate deficiency, but not for children with the much broader diagnosis of autism that it had promised last autumn to help, citing a lack of data. The approval for the rare genetic disorder, which causes autism-like symptoms, is a significant step back from the government’s September press conference when President Donald Trump and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. promoted the drug as a treatment for autism symptoms. … Leucovorin, also known as folinic acid, is a form of folate, an essential B vitamin, or B9. It is currently used in people undergoing chemotherapy but can be prescribed off-label for other uses.” [editor’s note: That last bit is important — a drug is either “approved” or not “approved” by FDA. “Approval” supposedly means that it is 1) safe, and 2) effective for some condition, but no separate “approval” is required for it to be prescribed for OTHER conditions. Authorities said the shooting occurred early on Tuesday morning at around 04:30 local time (08:30 GMT). 18) Hundreds Killed in Haiti Drone Strikes, Including 60 Civilians, Human Rights Watch Says

“Explosive drone strikes by Haitian security forces targeting gangs have killed over 1,200 people, including 43 adult civilians and 17 children, Human Rights Watch said in a report on Tuesday, adding that operations have ramped up in recent months. Since last March, Haitian security forces, with support from Vectus Global, have carried out anti-gang operations using quadcopter drones strapped with explosives, often in densely populated parts of the capital Port-au-Prince. Vectus Global is a private U.S.-based military company led by Blackwater founder Erik Prince. Haiti’s prime minister’s office, defense minister, national police, Vectus, and the U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The U.S. charge d’affaires in Haiti told a Senate committee last month that the State Department had licensed Vectus to export its services to Haiti. 19) White House says it fired NTSB member over misconduct but Todd Inman denies the allegations

“The White House said it fired a National Transportation Safety Board member after reports of drinking on the job and harassing staff, but Todd Inman flatly denied the allegations Monday and said he plans to fight back. Inman revealed Sunday that he had been fired on Friday without explanation, though his term on the board was supposed to continue through the end of 2027. President DonaldTrump’s administration said Monday that it believes the firing is justified. ‘The White House lawfully removed Todd Inman from the NTSB after receiving highly concerning reports of inappropriate alcohol use on the job, harassment of staff, misuse of government resources, and failure to attend at least half of NTSB meetings,’ spokesman Kush Desai said. … Inman said Monday that he hadn’t initially planned to sue over his firing, but now says, ‘I look forward to defending my reputation through all legal means possible.'” (03/10/26)

20) Alexander brothers found guilty on all counts in sex trafficking trial

“A jury has found the Alexander brothers guilty on all counts in their federal sex trafficking trial in New York City. Jury deliberations began Thursday for the former real estate titans, Oren and Alon Alexander, 38-year-old twins, along with their brother, Tal Alexander, 39, who have denied sexually assaulting anyone or running a sex trafficking conspiracy, as prosecutors have charged. They pleaded not guilty. Throughout the five-week trial, 11 women testified that they were sexually assaulted by one or more of the brothers. “As humans, we’ve always found ourselves haunted by our past mistakes, both as a personal matter of guilt, shame, or embarrassment and as a communal matter of reputation (up to and including potential ostracism). On the latter front, I’m old enough — and I’m not THAT old — to remember a time when anyone but the most public of public figures could … move to another county and start over, among new neighbors who neither knew of, nor had any reason to suspect, their prior violations of social norms. Clean slates, and if they nailed the ‘sin no more’ part of ‘go and sin no more,’ new and better lives. … That kind of thing can’t really happen today … and for the last 20 years or so we’ve been watching what happens instead.” (03/10/26)

“A bill (SB26-097) was introduced in the second regular session of the Colorado General Assembly last month to decriminalize adult commercial sexual activity. … This is a bill that libertarians can unequivocally support. But not because libertarians think that prostitution is wholesome, good, and harmless, or because they don’t think that prostitution is immoral, shameful, and potentially dangerous. Libertarians simply believe that what consenting adults do on their own property, or on the property of others with permission, is none of the government’s business, none of the church’s business, and none of any individual’s business as long as their actions don’t infringe upon the personal or property rights of others. Kay Ivey commuted on Tuesday the death sentence of Charles ‘Sonny’ Burton to life without parole, saying his execution, which was set for Thursday, would be ‘unjust.’ In 1991, Burton was one of six men involved in the robbery of an AutoZone store in Talladega that ended with the murder of a customer, Doug Battle; Burton did not pull the trigger in the killing. ‘Doug Battle was brutally murdered by Derrick DeBruce while shopping in an auto parts store. But DeBruce was ultimately sentenced to life without parole. Charles Burton did not shoot the victim, did not direct the triggerman to shoot the victim and had already left the store by the time the shooting occurred. That money would then be redistributed as a $3,000 direct payment to every man, woman and child in a household making $150,000 or less — $12,000 for a family of four. This is in response to growing numbers of kratom-related deaths. Newsom points out that from 2020-22, 242 deaths in the state have been linked to kratom, with 27 due to kratom alone. Now that many kratom products have been stripped from the shelves of California gas stations and convenience stores, problem solved, right? WRONG.
