1)  Palestine: Israeli forces commence “Final Solution” phase of Gaza City ethnic cleansing operation
Source: Yahoo! News

“Israeli forces pressed on with a new ground offensive in Gaza City Wednesday as strikes overnight across the Palestinian territory killed at least 16 people, including women and children, hospital officials said. Hundreds of thousands remained in the city, the territory’s largest and already in ruins from nearly two years of war and struggling with a famine. The latest Israeli operation, which started Tuesday, further escalates a conflict that has roiled the Middle East and likely pushes any ceasefire farther out of reach.” (09/17/25)

2)  UT: Robinson charged with Kirk murder, could face death penalty
Source: USA Today

“Utah officials on Tuesday formally charged the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk with capital murder and other crimes ahead of his first court appearance. Tyler Robinson, 22, was charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and the commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said at a news conference.” (09/16/25)

3)  Ukraine: Russians target railways with overnight attack
Source: Politico

“Russia is deliberately targeting Ukraine’s key railway junctions in a bid to destroy the country’s main transportation artery, according to Ukrainian authorities. ‘The enemy tried to disable substations that power the railway network with a massive drone attack this night,’ Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said in a post on Facebook published early Wednesday. … According to Kuleba, some 20 trains were in transit when Russia launched its massive overnight attack on the railways of eastern Ukraine. While no one was injured, 26 trains have been delayed in the Dnipro and Odesa regions due to the attacks. Passengers on board the trains reported they had been stuck for more than five hours as a result of the strikes.” (09/17/25)

4)  Oracle and Silver Lake part of TikTok investor group as Trump extends extortion deadline
Source: CNBC

“President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended the deadline for ByteDance to divest TikTok’s U.S. business, which will be owned by an investor consortium that includes Oracle and Silver Lake, CNBC’s David Faber reported. It’s the fourth time Trump has extended the deadline. The extension, as described in an executive order, precludes the Department of Justice from enforcing a national security [sic] law that would effectively ban TikTok in the U.S. until Dec. 16. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed on Monday that a ‘framework deal’ had been reached involving TikTok. Under the national security [sic] law, which would have come into effect on Wednesday, app store operators like Apple and Google and internet service providers would be penalized for providing services to TikTok’s U.S. operations if a deal was not reached.” (09/16/25)

5)  NY: Judge tosses terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione, lets murder count stand
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

“A judge on Tuesday dismissed terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione in New York state’s case over the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, but he kept the state’s second-degree murder charges against the Ivy League graduate. Mangione’s lawyers argued that the New York case and a parallel federal death penalty prosecution amounted to double jeopardy. But Judge Gregory Carro rejected that argument, saying it would be premature to make such a determination. … Mangione pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of murder, including murder as an act of terrorism, in the Dec. 4, 2024, killing.” (09/16/25)

6)  Occupied Ireland: “Soldier F” goes on trial for Bloody Sunday murders
Source: Irish Times [Ireland]

“The shooting of civilians in Derry on Bloody Sunday was ‘unjustified,’ ‘unnecessary’ and ‘gratuitous,’ a prosecution barrister has said on the opening day of the trial of Soldier F. The former member of the British army’s elite Parachute Regiment is charged with the murders of James Wray and William McKinney and five counts of attempted murder in Derry on January 30th, 1972. He denies the charges. Thirteen people were killed when members of the regiment opened fire on anti-internment marchers in Derry’s Bogside on what became known as Bloody Sunday. A 14th died later. Soldier F is the first member of the British armed forces to face prosecution for his actions on the day. He is the subject of a court order protecting his anonymity and cannot be identified, and appeared in court shielded from view by a black curtain.” (09/16/25)

“Robert Redford, the leading man with the golden-boy looks who won an Oscar for directing ‘Ordinary People’ and later became a godfather for independent film as founder of the Sundance Film Institute, has died. He was 89. … The actor-turned-director — who had a stellar run in such films as ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’ ‘The Way We Were,’ ‘The Sting,’ ‘Three Days of the Condor’ and ‘All the President’s Men’ — had worked less frequently both in front of and behind the camera in recent years.” (09/16/25)

8)  Bulgaria: Russian owner of ship at centre of Beirut port blast that killed 218 arrested
Source: euronews [EU]

“The Russian owner of a cargo ship linked to a supply of ammonium nitrate at the centre of the massive Beirut port explosion in 2020 has been arrested in Bulgaria, Lebanese judicial officials said on Monday. The arrest of Igor Grechushkin comes nearly five years after a Lebanese investigative judge issued two arrest warrants through Interpol for him and the vessel’s captain, Boris Prokoshev, also a Russian national. The judicial officials said papers are being prepared requesting the transfer of Grechushkin to Lebanon for questioning. They said that if Grechushkin is not handed over, Lebanese investigators could travel to Bulgaria to question him there. The four Lebanese judicial officials said Grechushkin, who also has Cypriot nationality, was arrested last week at Vasil Levski Sofia airport after arriving on a flight from Cyprus.” (09/16/25)

9)  Keystone Kash erupts at “buffoon” Schiff over Russiagate
Source: Fox News

“FBI Director Kash Patel blasted Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) during a fiery exchange over the Russiagate scandal, lambasting him as ‘a political buffoon at best.’ ‘What I am doing is protecting this country, providing historic reform and combating the weaponization of intelligence by the likes of you and we have countlessly proven you to be a liar in Russiagate, in January 6th,’ Patel told the California Democrat. ‘You are the biggest fraud to sit in the United States Senate. You are a disgrace to this institution and an utter coward,’ the FBI boss went on, raising his voice. … Schiff had pressed Patel about the quiet transfer of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell to a lower-security federal facility in Texas, a decision that the FBI boss claimed was under the purview of the Bureau of Prisons.” (09/16/25)

10) Google to invest £5 billion in UK AI as Trump heads for state visit
Source: CNBC

“Google owner Alphabet on Tuesday announced a £5 billion ($6.8 billion) investment in the U.K.’s artificial intelligence development, just as the country prepares for U.S. President Donald Trump’s state visit this week. … His visit is expected to coincide with a flurry of business deals. Google’s two-year investment will represent a welcome boost for Britain’s embattled Labour government. As part of the pledge, the U.S. tech giant announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art data center in Waltham Cross, approximately 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of central London. Google said the new facility will help meet the growing demand for the company’s AI-powered services like Google Cloud, Workspace, Search and Maps.” (09/16/25)

11) GA: Supreme Court declines Willis’s appeal of her removal from Trump election interference case
Source: Associated Press

“Georgia’s highest court has declined to consider Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’[s] appeal of her removal from the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump and others. Citing an ‘appearance of impropriety’ created by a romantic relationship Willis had with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she had hired to lead the case, the Georgia Court of Appeals in December ruled that Willis and her office could not continue to prosecute the case. … Willis said she disagreed with the court’s decision, but would direct her office to make the case file and evidence available to the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia so it can appoint a new prosecutor to replace her. … A grand jury in Atlanta indicted Trump and 18 others in August 2023, using the state’s anti-racketeering law to accuse them of participating in a wide-ranging scheme to illegally try to overturn Trump’s narrow 2020 presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in Georgia.” (09/16/25)

12) Trump files frivolous $15 billion lawsuit vs. New York Times for noticing he’s a charlatan
Source: CBS News

“President Trump is suing The New York Times for $15 billion for what he says in a post on his Truth Social platform is a yearslong pattern of ‘defamation and libel’ by the paper against him. … He says the Times ‘has engaged in a decades long method of lying” about him, his family and the Trump Organization as well as “the America First Movement, MAGA, and our Nation as a whole.’ Specifically, the 85-page lawsuit cites a book written by two Times reporters and three articles, all published during the 2024 presidential campaign. … ‘Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success,’ published in September 2024, was ‘false, malicious, and defamatory,’ the suit asserts.” (09/16/25)

13) Christian singer Forrest Frank loses 30,000 followers after speaking out on assassination
Source: Fox News

“Forrest Frank has lost nearly 30,000 of his millions of Instagram followers since sharing his views on Charlie Kirk’s assassination, but the Christian singer isn’t bothered by it. Last week, Frank took to Instagram and shared a video of Kirk speaking about him and praising him for creating Christian music. Frank became emotional in the video and started to cry while explaining that he didn’t feel comfortable continuing on and posting his music without first addressing the conservative activist’s assassination. Frank’s video garnered over 1 million likes and nearly 20,000 comments before he shared another video on Sept. 14 to say that he lost tens of thousands of followers for speaking out about the tragic events that took place at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.” (09/16/25)

14) Italy: Court Orders Extradition to Germany of Nord Stream Sabotage Suspect
Source: US News & World Report

“An Italian court has ordered the extradition to Germany of a Ukrainian man suspected of coordinating attacks on Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in 2022, a ruling reviewed by Reuters on Tuesday showed, but he plans a further appeal. The man, identified only as Serhii K. under German privacy laws, was arrested last month near the Italian coastal town of Rimini on a European warrant. His defence team said he would take his case to the Court of Cassation, Italy’s highest court. … The suspect was part of a group of people who planted devices on the pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, according to a statement issued by the German prosecutor’s office in August.” (09/16/25)

15) George Zinn, elderly rabble-rouser who falsely claimed he shot Charlie Kirk, hit with child porn charges
Source: New York Post

“The elderly rabble-rouser who allegedly hindered Utah authorities’ response after Charlie Kirk was shot is accused of keeping ‘graphic’ sexual photos of children on his phone, according to law enforcement. George Zinn, 71, was charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor Tuesday after investigators found more than 20 images of kids as young as 5 years old at least partially naked and ‘posing in a sexual way,’ the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. ‘Zinn admitted … that he gets sexual gratification from viewing and sharing [child sexual abuse material] images with others, and that his preferred victim age is 5 to 12 years old,’ the agency alleged. Zinn, who is considered ‘a political gadfly,’ is also facing a charge of obstruction of justice after he allegedly admitted to screaming that he shot Kirk on a Utah college campus Wednesday in a bid to help the actual shooter get away.” (09/16/25)

16) FL: AG admits that open carry is “law of the state”
Source: Politico

“Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier declared state residents are free to openly carry guns statewide after an appeals court decision that struck down Florida’s nearly 40-year-old ban. Uthmeier, a Republican appointed to the job earlier this year by Gov. Ron DeSantis who is running for the post in 2026, sent out a ‘guidance’ memo Monday to law enforcement agencies and local prosecutors asserting the 1st District Court of Appeal ruling is in effect statewide. ‘Meaning that of last week, open carry is the law of the state,’ Uthmeier wrote on his official X account in a post that included the memo.” [editor’s note: Per the Second Amendment, it’s been “the law of the state” since Florida became a US state in 1845; the legislature was just in rebellion against the US Constitution with its fake “law” to the contrary – TLK] (09/15/25)

Source: Fox News

“Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin [whined about] ‘Hacks’ star Hannah Einbinder for denigrating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at the Emmy Awards. While receiving her award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the HBO Max show on Sunday, Einbinder concluded her speech by saying, ‘Fuck ICE and free Palestine!’ In a statement to TMZ on Monday, McLaughlin blasted the remark, which was bleeped out during the CBS broadcast. ‘How ugly — such demonization is inspiring violence against our ICE law enforcement, who are facing a 1,000% increase in assaults against them,’ McLaughlin said. She added, ‘As this woman fans the flames of hatred, our brave law enforcement will continue enforcing the rule of law and protecting Americans.'” [editor’s note: People who willingly join the ICE gang should be shunned, ostracized, denigrated, and preferably, when they try to abduct people, put down like rabid dogs – TLK] (09/16/25)

Source: United Press International

“Mexico’s government will shift its trade policy next year by raising tariffs on [Mexican buyers of goods from] countries without free trade agreements, including China, India and South Korea. The move is aimed at reducing competitive disadvantages in key sectors and strengthening domestic production. The plan covers [Mexican buyers of] 1,463 categories of goods, from vehicles and auto parts to steel, textiles, toys and furniture. 19) Slovakia: Thousands rally against austerity measures and pro-Russian policies
Source: SFGate

“Thousands rallied across Slovakia on Tuesday in a nationwide mass protest against the economic and pro-Russian policies of populist Prime Minister Robert Fico. The rallies took place in 16 major cities and towns, including the capital of Bratislava. They latest wave of protests has been fueled by a trip by Fico to China where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin for the third time since the Russian all-out invasion of Ukraine. A package of austerity measures recently approved by the government further angered the protesters. The government says the measures are necessary to cut a budget deficit that at 5.3% of GDP was the second highest last year among the countries using the common European currency, the euro. The deficit is expected to surpass 5% this year, exceeding the limit of 3% required by the European Union.” (09/16/25)

21) A Replacement for the Nation-State?
Source: Reason
by Scott Beyer

“The authors [of Farewell to Westphalia] premise the book around the 1648 Peace of Westphalia, a set of treaties that ended Europe’s 30 Years’ War and established state sovereignty as the principle for international relations. They argue that while this new order was effective at toppling monarchies, religious despots, and other so-called medieval institutions, the new nation-states haven’t been perfect either. At worst, they further inflamed tribal tensions by drawing arbitrary lines around them. At best, they produced mediocre governance. … Nation-states are also, they argue, already getting disrupted by alternative forms of governance, some preferable to others. These include large corporations, nongovernmental organizations, cartels, special economic zones (SEZs), and homeowners’ associations. It is within this disruption that new, anarchic Web3 technologies enter.” (09/16/25)

22) Hoplophobes Say The Strangest Things
Source: Garrison Center
by Thomas L Knapp

“On September 10, Florida’s 1st District Court of Appeal looked at the state’s law against ‘open carry’ of firearms, looked at the US Constitution’s 2nd Amendment, and noticed that the latter supersedes the former. Five days later, Florida Attorney General James Uthmier issued ‘guidance to Florida’s prosecutors and law enforcement,’ notifying them that ‘as of last week, open carry is the law of the state.’ … Such a straightforwardly correct court ruling, and its relatively quick acceptance by a power-hungry politician whom one might expect to reflexively contest it, may seem strange even by Florida standards (interestingly, the now-common ‘Florida Man’ phenomenon emerged a few months after I moved to the state … make of that what you will). Even stranger, though, is the reaction I’m seeing from some hoplophobes — people who suffer from an irrational fear of guns — in Florida (and elsewhere, but let’s stick to Florida).” (09/16/25)

23) Empowered learning: How homeschooling through high school helped me thrive
Source: Foundation for Economic Education
by Nasiyah Isra-Ul

“The only thing ‘traditional’ about my schooling was my time in front of the whiteboard, where I practiced vocabulary and math problems. I spent most of my days taking trips to local libraries and museums, studying online, having hands-on experiences, journaling, and designing a schedule that worked for me. By the time high school hit, self-directed education was my main mode of learning …. You could easily think I ‘missed out’ on some valuable experiences that most children in America grow up having in public school. But between the four-hour school days and being grades ahead in certain subjects by the time I hit middle school, I don’t think I missed out on too much. In fact, I’d argue that the way I was educated taught me an important lesson about the value of education.” (09/16/25)

24) Don’t Shut Down Free Speech in Charlie Kirk’s Name
Source: Washington Monthly
by Jonathan Zimmerman

“Charlie Kirk championed free speech as a fundamental American value. So, it’s sad—and ironic—that the murder of the 31-year-old conservative activist has triggered a fresh round of censorship, alarmingly aimed at teachers and other government employees. Educators in a dozen states have been fired or placed on leave for online statements that criticized Kirk or expressed approval of his death. … teachers have no right to propagandize in their classrooms about Charlie Kirk or anything else. But the ones who were fired or suspended last week commented on social media, imagining it was a forum for free and open dialogue. … Republicans used to worry that technology companies censored speech via content moderation and other restrictions. Now they’re calling for restrictions to ensure nobody besmirches Kirk.” (09/16/25)

25) The Evidence of Genocide in Gaza Is Overwhelming
Source: Eunomia
by Daniel Larison

“When we look at the utter devastation that the Israeli government has wrought over the last two years, it is not a close call. Genocide is the only appropriate word that can describe what we have seen in Gaza. The crime is still ongoing, and it is imperative that we act to stop it from claiming more victims. … Our government is bound by its commitments under the Genocide Convention to stop abetting the genocidal regime and it also has the duty to bring this horror to an end. If our government will not honor its obligations, we must bring enough pressure to bear on our leaders that they have to act.” (09/16/25)

26) It’s Not Cancel Culture, It’s Consequences
Source: Town Hall
by Derek Hunter

“The odds of you being a ghoul who’d cheer the murder of anyone are pretty slim, or at least that’s what we all thought. Now we know better – we now know that about half the country included a large swath of the public who gets sexually aroused at the prospect of their political opponents being murdered. They get giddy, sickeningly so, over children growing up without a parent. We almost need to create a word beyond evil to describe this mentality. What Democrats are trying to use is one of their favorites: cancel culture. It’s funny to watch people scramble to try to justify horrible things said by horrible people, simply because they’re on your political team.” [editor’s note: Wow … says the guy who wrote an entire book (Outrage, Inc.) whining about being on the other end of that phenomenon – TLK] (09/16/25)

Have economists been wrong all these years to insist that consumers should be free to buy imports even when the prices of imports are quite low and their purchase takes business away from particular American firms and workers? Most economists, including myself, believe not. But if we’re mistaken, our professional duty demands that we point out that Trump’s protectionism is insufficiently ambitious; it should go much further. Trump’s protectionism overlooks a source of low-priced goods that poses a far worse threat than do foreign producers to American producers and workers. That source of low-priced goods is the past. Goods sold in resale markets cost nothing to manufacture today.” (09/16/25)

28) Really, What the Hell Is a “Libertarian Authoritarian?”
Source: Center for a Stateless Society
by Kevin Carson

“[T]here’s an entire milieu of self-identified ‘libertarians’ whose views are characterized mainly by ‘hostility toward openness to foreigners and the wider world and to anger at what presents as scientific authority.’ For starters, that describes about nine-tenths of the commenters under Reason articles. There’s also Argentina’s Javier Milei, widely celebrated as a ‘libertarian’ in publications like Reason, whose authoritarianism I recently examined. There’s Walter Block, who has repeatedly vouched for the libertarian character of ‘voluntary slavery’ over the course of his career. And then there’s the entire paleolibertarian movement, which can be described with little exaggeration as having grown into a giant festering sore with the withered cadaver of the historic libertarian movement attached.” (09/16/25)

29) Trump Administration Rushes To Kill Free Speech In Response To Kirk Assassination
Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist
by Caitlin Johnstone

“US Attorney General Pam Bondi just said on a podcast that ‘hate speech’ directed at conservatives was responsible for Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and that people who utter such speech will be prosecuted by the Trump administration. Bondi’s comments came after the podcast’s host Katie Miller (wife of Trump henchman Stephen Miller) bizarrely [sic] suggested that Kirk’s murder at a university was a symptom of university campuses being too tolerant of mistreatment of people with conservative views. At the same time, Miller’s husband Stephen circulated the baseless claim that an ‘organized campaign’ by left wing ‘terrorist networks’ led to Kirk’s murder, and that the Trump administration is going to ‘dismantle and destroy’ these networks.” [editor’s note: CJ has joined the MSM idiots, missing the point on this one; Bondi clarified her statement, declaring that if “hate speech” promotes active violence, it should be condemned, if not disallowed entirely – SAT] [editor’s note: And SAT gas fallen, again, for what may become the next Charlottesville Hoax Hoax – TLK] (09/16/25)

30) Deflating “Hype” Won’t Save Us
Source: Liberal Currents
by Hagen Blix & Ingeborg Glimmer

“Without a doubt, AI has already automated the production of bullshit — that is, text and images that do not commit the producers of that content to any kind of truth. Where these are intended to act as political speech, we can see the resonance between AI and far right politics, where texts and images are often used to manipulate the emotional valence of a particular topic and amplify its affective resonances. … Is any of this an issue of hype, of some discrepancy between promised capabilities and real capabilities? Or is the root issue that the very real affordances of very real AI potentiate fascist political aims and methods? Is the problem that some model output is untrue, or is it that AI models operate akin to the online troll, who just asks questions and just says (bullshit) things for the lulz?” (09/16/25)

31) The power of honesty in Nepal
Source: Christian Science Monitor
by staff

“Over two days last week, young people in the Himalayan nation of Nepal took to the streets in protest against corrupt politicians. Their initial complaint was aimed at the adult children of the elite flaunting their lavish wealth in online posts. When the government then banned most social media, the outrage escalated. For Generation Z, or people born between 1997 and 2012, you don’t mess with their online access and connectivity. When the demonstrations caused the government to fall, Nepal’s Gen Z was forced to switch from condemning others to championing their ideals, namely honesty in government. Like the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes, they searched the public square for a few honest leaders, or those without any self-interested motives.” (09/15/25)

The First Amendment makes no general exception for offensive, repugnant, or hateful expression. … speech by adults as free citizens does not lose First Amendment protection because it is considered hateful.” (09/16/25)

33) The Department of Forever War
Source: TomDispatch
by William J Astore

“My fellow Americans, my critical voice has finally been heard inside the Oval Office. No, not my voice against the $1.7 trillion this country is planning to spend on new nuclear weapons. No, not my call to cut the Pentagon budget in half. No, not my imprecations against militarism in America. It was a quip of mine that the Department of Defense (DoD) should return to its roots as the War Department, since the U.S. hasn’t known a moment’s peace since before the 9/11 attacks, locked as it’s been into a permanent state of global war, whether against ‘terror’ or for its imperial agendas (or both). A rebranded Department of War, President Trump recently suggested, simply sounds tougher (and more Trumpian) than ‘defense.’ As is his wont, he blurted out a hard truth as he stated that America must have an offensive military.” (09/16/25)

“While the praise for Kirk’s murder online was mostly reactionary and thoughtless, the calls for firing the (mostly powerless) people who said or posted about Kirk is different in one sense: Their kind of punch-down bullying is thought-out, thoroughly deliberate. Therefore, in that one sense, the right-wing dimwits calling for their pound of leftist flesh are worse than the leftist dimwits who posted that crap online in the first place. … Anyone seeking liberty should see this for what it is: A screen test of the two-minutes of Orwellian hate that will be used against people seeking liberty at the first opportunity.” (09/16/25)

37) Saving civil discourse: Justice Barrett raises the bar
Source: Fox News
by Hugh Hewitt

“Interviews with Supreme Court justices are rare because they come with guardrails which have to be respected. Having conducted interviews with Justices Stephen Breyer, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and now Amy Coney Barrett, it is useful to put those rules down for future interviewers. It is a very good thing that sitting justices write books, especially when they are accessible to laymen as Justice Barrett’s new Listening to the Law and Justice Gorsuch’s Overruled from last year both accomplished. Justice Breyer’s Making Our Democracy Work was an excellent argument for his approach to judging. My Grandfather’s Son was an eye-opening account of Justice Thomas’ life, from its incredibly challenging beginnings as well as of the path he followed through his college radical days to One First Street.” (09/16/25)

She went on the Katie Miller Podcast, stating, ‘There’s free speech and then there’s hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society … We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech.’ This is so opposite of the First Amendment and decades of Supreme Court decisions that her statement is no better than the jawboning coming from the ‘pulpit’ of the White House Briefing Room under Biden’s Psaki. Assuming that current data and design barriers can be overcome, this technological acceleration may deliver either unimaginable benefits or pose one of the greatest adaptive challenges humanity has ever faced. Or perhaps both. If you haven’t heard about ‘recursive’ artificial intelligence, you might want to bone up. Simply put, a recursive AI can improve itself through iterative testing, evaluation, and self-modification. 41) Without Free Speech, Democracy [sic] Dies
Source: Common Dreams
by Nipuna Kumbalathara

“Democracy is hanging precariously in a world tilted upside down in the face of today’s endless crises. Our rights and freedoms are dwindling. Free speech, an essential precursor to all human rights, is faltering. Less than 4% of the world’s citizens enjoy a wide range of civic freedoms, and nearly three-quarters live in countries with little. With 1,100 violations and 45% of all violations, freedom of expression topped the CIVICUS Monitor list of global attacks on rights. States that once set an example as bastions of free speech are also faltering. United States first amendment to the Constitution once stood out as a north star for freedom of expression. Creative freedom, critical journalism, dissent, and mockery of leaders were all a go. When attacks against journalists and activists took place around the world, the US and Western democracies stood up.” (09/16/25)

“In 1651, the English philosopher Thomas Hobbes imagined life in the ‘state of nature’ — that is, a world without governing institutions and guardrails. This world was a bleak one, enveloped in a constant state of war that rendered life ‘nasty, brutish, and short.’ Hobbes envisaged a Leviathan, an all-powerful sovereign, as the only means to tame this state of nature. The post-World War II rules-based order, defined and led by the United States, was the modern alternative. Today, we are undergoing a grand experiment testing the impact of moving away from those rules.” (09/16/25)

“US policy under Trump, which confounds terrorism with criminal activity, is a cover for projecting military domination. Claiming the prerogative to unilaterally intervene in the sovereign territories of neighboring states to fight cartels or murdering a boat’s crew in the Caribbean are not solutions. Latin American leaders are turning the spotlight back on Washington. They point to US gun policies, consumer demand, and ulterior motives behind Washington’s renewed ‘war on drugs,’ such as the current regime-change offensive against Venezuela. The drug problem won’t be solved by scapegoating Latin America, when the US has yet to address root causes at home.” (09/16/25)

45) The warped meme life of Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer a warning to parents
Source: New York Post
by Rikki Schlott

“One of the very best things about the internet — and social media more specifically — is that you can find a community of other people who share your passions, no matter how niche. Love eating oranges in the shower? Or watching videos of Siberian Huskies throwing tantrums? There’s a subreddit for that. But we also have an absolute crisis of kids living in the digital world, with their views warped by fringe memes that they are now applying to real life. The inscription carved into the casing of the bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University last Wednesday, along with messages on unfired bullets found nearby, demonstrate how too much time spent too deep online can totally divorce someone from reality.” (09/15/25)

47) Charlie Kirk Conspiracy Theories Roil MAGA Media
Source: The Bulwark
by Will Sommer

“On the surface, the MAGA movement appears to be united after the murder of prominent activist and conservative media figure Charlie Kirk. They’re getting people fired from their jobs for social media posts that made light of, or even celebrated, Kirk’s death. They’re cruising the streets to demand random businesses lower their flags in his honor. And they’re plotting how to attack the institutions of the left, with Trump deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller vowing Monday to pursue a ‘vast domestic terror movement’ targeting liberal foes. Yet beneath that façade of unity, that appetite of anger, and that thirst for retribution, cracks are emerging as the always-paranoid right is pulled apart by conspiracy theories about Kirk’s murder and a sense that the Trump administration isn’t telling the truth about it.” (09/15/25)

“Few laws have managed to hobble America’s energy potential as thoroughly — and quietly — as the Jones Act. Enacted in 1920, the law restricts domestic water transportation to vessels that are built and registered in the United States. While originally justified on national security grounds, the Jones Act now functions as a protectionist anchor dragging down the nation’s energy sector. With sky-high shipping costs, limited vessel availability, and perverse incentives to import foreign fuel over American energy, the Jones Act isn’t protecting U.S. interests — it’s undermining them.” (09/15/25)

“The Anti-Monopoly Summit kicked off Monday afternoon in Washington, D.C., and continues Tuesday. It’s a signature event for a movement that’s at something of a crossroads. While there have been some scattered bright spots this year, hopes that aggressive antitrust enforcement would survive the transition of power to Donald Trump have been drowned in a sea of corruption and lobbying. Worse, the movement’s most promising live possibility to rein in corporate power ended with an embarrassingly bad ruling by an Obama judge, which showed that some in our courts still cling to an outdated and inadequate conception of the law. In Congress, several old-guard Democrats who advanced anti-monopoly policies have decided to retire, like Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), two of the 13 founding members of the House Monopoly Busters Caucus.” (09/16/25)

Pundits and other commentators have struggled to fit him into the familiar mold of a politically motivated killer.
