1) Israel: Cabinet to vote on Lebanon ceasefire deal
Source: CNN
“The Israeli cabinet will vote on a ceasefire deal in Lebanon on Tuesday, Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson told CNN, after a source familiar with the matter said the Israeli prime minister had approved the plan ‘in principle.’ Netanyahu signaled his potential approval for the emerging ceasefire with Hezbollah during a security consultation with Israeli officials Sunday night, the source said. On Monday, his spokesperson told CNN the Israeli cabinet will vote on the proposed deal on Tuesday and said it is expected to pass. Sources familiar with the negotiations said earlier that talks appear to be moving positively toward an agreement, but acknowledged that as Israel and Hezbollah continue to trade fire, one misstep could upend the talks.” (11/26/24)

2) Bitcoin Retreats From $100,000 in Worst Spell Since Presidential Election
Source: Bloomberg
“Bitcoin posted its longest losing streak for the period since Donald Trump’s US election victory, following a failed run at $100,000 and amid cooling fervor over the president-elect’s embrace of crypto. The digital asset completed a three-day drop of roughly 6% through Monday before trading at $94,245 as of 8:40 a.m. Tuesday in Singapore. The wider crypto market, up $1 trillion since Election Day on Nov. 5, also stalled. … Cryptocurrencies faced a bout of risk aversion on Tuesday after Trump roiled global markets by posting about plans for additional tariffs on Chinese imports and 25% levies on products from Mexico and Canada. US equity futures fell and a dollar gauge climbed in a sign of investor caution.” (11/26/24)

3) Analysts: Russian forces advance in Ukraine at fastest monthly pace since start of war
Source: Reuters
“Russian forces are advancing in Ukraine at the fastest rate since the early days of the 2022 invasion, taking an area half the size of London over the past month, analysts and war bloggers say. The war is entering what some Russian and Western officials say could be its most dangerous phase after Moscow’s forces made some of their biggest territorial gains and the United States allowed Kyiv to strike back with U.S. missiles. ‘Russia has set new weekly and monthly records for the size of the occupied territory in Ukraine,’ independent Russian news group Agentstvo said in a report. The Russian army captured almost 235 sq km (91 sq miles) in Ukraine over the past week, a weekly record for 2024, it said.” (11/26/24)

4) Disgraced president-elect’s 2020 election interference case dismissed per Smith’s request
Source: Axios
“A judge granted Special Counsel Jack Smith’s request Monday to drop all charges against President-elect Trump in the federal case over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election. … U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan granted Smith’s motion hours after it was filed Monday. She dismissed the case without prejudice, meaning it could be reopened in the future. Smith wrote in the filing seeking the dismissal of the election interference case that while prosecutors’ view of Trump’s alleged crimes has not changed, the circumstances surrounding his looming trial have. Trump’s victory ‘sets at odds two fundamental and compelling national interests,’ Smith wrote: the Constitutional requirement that the president should not be ‘unduly encumbered’ and a commitment to the rule of law.” (11/25/24)

5) Romania: Pro-Russia independent wins first round of presidential election
Source: The Guardian [UK]
“An ultranationalist, Moscow-friendly Nato critic is set to face a centre-right candidate in the runoff of Romania’s presidential elections after a shock first-round result that has upended the country’s politics and could jeopardise its support for Ukraine. With 99.98% of votes counted, Călin Georgescu, an independent who has praised Vladimir Putin as ‘a man who loves his country,’ was on 22.9%, with the reformist Elena Lasconi, of the Save Romania Union (USR), second on 19.17%. The result is one of the biggest electoral upsets in Romania’s post-communist history and bears little relation to pre-election polls, which had shown the little-known Georgescu running at 5% and predicted the outgoing prime minister, the centre-left, pro-EU Marcel Ciolacu, would win comfortably. Ciolacu instead was in third on 19.15%.” (11/25/24)

6) Backpage Founder Michael Lacey Released on Bail
Source: Reason
“Backpage co-founder Michael Lacey has been released from prison on bail, following a federal court ruling last Thursday. Lacey is in the process of appealing his conviction on one count of international concealment money laundering, for which he has been sentenced to five years in federal prison. Under the court’s recent ruling, he may now wait out the resolution of that appeal a somewhat free man.” (11/25/24)

7) Vatican to install a webcam at St. Peter’s tomb as part technological outreach
Source: ABC News
“Roman Catholic faithful will be able to view St. Peter’s tomb remotely as part of the Vatican’s technological outreach with its far-flung flock during the upcoming Holy Year. Pope Francis will inaugurate a webcam on Dec. 2 to be installed beneath the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica. Another webcam will be placed on the basilica’s Holy Door for the 2025 Jubilee, during which indulgences for the forgiveness of sins are granted to pilgrims who travel to Rome and enter through it. The link will provide ‘symbolic access’ to those who cannot make the journey, the Vatican said on Monday.” (11/25/24)

8) CA: Judge rejects request to sideline San Jose State volleyball player on grounds she’s transgender
Source: Orange County Register
“A judge on Monday rejected a request to block a San Jose State women’s volleyball team member from playing in a conference tournament on grounds that she is transgender. Monday’s ruling by U.S. Magistrate Judge S. Kato Crews in Denver will allow the player, who has played all season, to continue competing in the Mountain West Conference women’s championship scheduled for later this week in Las Vegas. The ruling comes after a lawsuit was filed by nine current players who are suing the Mountain West Conference to challenge the league’s policies for allowing transgender players to participate. The players argued that letting her compete was a safety risk and unfair. While some media have reported those and other details, neither San Jose State nor the forfeiting teams have confirmed the school has a trans women’s volleyball player.” (11/25/24)

9) France: Le Pen threatens to bring down government over planned budget
Source: South China Morning Post [Hong Kong]
“French far-right leader Marine Le Pen said on Monday that she could bring down France’s minority government by the end of the year unless changes are made to the country’s budget bill. Le Pen made her remarks after a meeting with conservative Prime Minister Michel Barnier over next year’s budget and other issues. Barnier was to meet with other political leaders from the left and the centre later in the day. Le Pen said lawmakers from her National Rally party, including herself, would bring a confidence motion if the bill now being debated in parliament ‘stays as it is.’ Le Pen said she expressed ‘red lines,’ including a refusal to raise electricity taxes and the need to increase state pensions from January.” (11/25/24)

10) New Zealanders save stranded whales by lifting them on sheets
Source: SFGate
“More than 30 pilot whales that stranded themselves on a beach in New Zealand were safely returned to the ocean after conservation workers and residents helped to refloat them by lifting them on sheets. Four of the pilot whales died, New Zealand’s conservation agency said. New Zealand is a whale stranding hotspot and pilot whales are especially prolific stranders. A team was monitoring Ruakākā Beach near the city of Whangārei in New Zealand’s north on Monday to ensure there were no signs of the whales saved Sunday stranding again, the Department of Conservation told The Associated Press. The agency praised as ‘incredible’ the efforts made by hundreds of people to help save the foundering pod. ‘It’s amazing to witness the genuine care and compassion people have shown toward these magnificent animals,’ Joel Lauterbach, a Department of Conservation spokesperson, said in a statement.” (11/25/24)

11) Georgia: Newly Elected Parliament Opens Its First Session With Opposition Boycotting
Source: US News & World Report
“The newly elected Georgian parliament opened its inaugural session Monday as opposition lawmakers and the president boycotted it and thousands of protesters, watched by riot police, rallied outside and accused the ruling party of rigging the vote under Russian influence. The Oct. 26 election that kept the Georgian Dream party in power was widely seen as a referendum on the country’s effort to join the European Union. Opposition parties refused to participate in the parliament’s activities, and only 88 lawmakers, all Georgian Dream members, were in the hall as the 150-seat parliament held its first session. Nika Melia, leader of Coalition for Changes, vowed that the opposition ‘will do everything to defeat the so-called government, the self-proclaimed government.'” (11/25/24)

So far Trump officials have not committed to any exemptions, according to interviews with farm and worker groups and Trump’s incoming ‘border czar’ Tom Homan. 14) Archaeologists discover 4,000-year-old canals used to fish by predecessors of ancient Maya
Source: SFGate
“Long before the ancient Maya built temples, their predecessors were already altering the landscape of Central America’s Yucatan peninsula. Using drones and Google Earth imagery, archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old network of earthen canals in what’s now Belize. The findings were published Friday in Science Advances. ‘The aerial imagery was crucial to identify this really distinctive pattern of zigzag linear canals’ running for several miles through wetlands, said study co-author Eleanor Harrison-Buck of the University of New Hampshire. The team then conducted digs in Belize’s Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. The ancient fish canals, paired with holding ponds, were used to channel and catch freshwater species such as catfish. ‘Barbed spearpoints’ found nearby may have been tied to sticks and used to spear fish, said study co-author Marieka Brouwer Burg of the University of Vermont.” (11/25/24)

Macy’s, also the owner of Bloomingdales and the make-up chain Bluemercury, said it was postponing its quarterly sales update as it investigates the incident. The person was responsible for tracking expenses related to small package deliveries, the retailer said. It added that it believed the person had acted alone. “Defense Secretary-designee Pete Hegseth is demanding a file from the Monterey County, Calif., district attorney’s office that his legal team believes may contain additional exonerating information about a 2017 sexual assault allegation against him, The Post can reveal. The records request comes as some Democrats continue to cast doubt on the former Fox News personality’s innocence despite the release of a police file with details contradicting his accuser’s account. The memorandum underpinning the decision not to prosecute Hegseth is believed to describe an earlier allegation of sexual misconduct made by the same woman in a different jurisdiction, Hegseth attorney Tim Parlatore said.” (11/25/24)

Source: Al Jazeera [Qatari state media]
“A Malaysian court has ordered the government to return dozens of Swatch watches seized by authorities over their designs celebrating LGBTQ pride. The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday ruled that the Ministry of Home Affairs should return the 172 rainbow-themed watches after finding that they had been seized illegally without a search warrant. Authorities confiscated the watches, worth about $14,000, during raids at 11 shopping malls in May last year, later citing the timepieces’ ‘LGBT elements.’ The court ruling comes after Switzerland-based Swatch filed a lawsuit arguing that the watches did not promote sexual activity but ‘peace and love.'” (11/25/24)

The firing of tear gas came shortly after demonstrators — who traveled 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the restive northwest — began arriving and gathering near Islamabad. They defied a lockdown, previous tear gas and widespread arrests despite a ban on rallies in the city. … Authorities said at least one police officer was killed and several officers and demonstrators were injured in clashes. 21) Against “Free Market Authoritarianism”
Source: Isonomia Quarterly
by Aris Trantidis
“Can a ‘free market’ version of authoritarianism’ — or ‘liberal authoritarianism’ for those outside the U.S. context and discourse — exist and serve as a viable alternative system to liberal democracy? This paper contends that the idea of a system that combines political authoritarianism with respect for personal and economic liberties is oxymorous, and therefore an impossible and dangerous idea. Empirical support for the so-called free-market authoritarian regimes refer to a small sample of cases with controversial outcomes (namely Singapore today, and South Korea and Taiwan in the 1970s and 1980s). Instead, the nature of the entanglement between politics and economics is such that economic liberalism can never become reality under authoritarianism exactly because state power has always been exploited by those who want to extract value from society through suppression, and only liberal democracies have devised institutions and a pluralist and contentious political ecology to partly tame and restrain this.” (11/25/24)

“President-elect Trump has nominated former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education. President-elect Trump promised that, if confirmed, Mrs. McMahon would ‘spearhead’ the effort to ‘send education back to the states.’ This has led some people to wonder if Linda McMahon may be the last Secretary of Education. The Constitution does not give the federal government any role in education. Instead, education is left in the hands of state and local governments and private citizens. For almost 200 years American children were provided with education largely free of US government interference.” (11/25/24)

23) Who Takes International Law Seriously?
Source: Eunomia
by Daniel Larison
“One of the problems that the [International Criminal] Court has had since its inception is that Western and Western-backed governments always seem to get a pass when they commit war crimes. Many critics did complain about hypocrisy and selective prosecution in the past because for many years it seemed as if the ICC only went after African leaders. That started to change when the ICC issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest last year. The [Washington] Post was singing a very different tune then, saying that the Court had taken an ‘important step’ when it did that. … The Post had no objection to the ICC going after a war criminal leader that they oppose. … The ICC did not put Netanyahu and Gallant in the same category as dictators and authoritarians. They did that themselves with their brutal and atrocious policies.” (11/25/24)

24) Procedure or Chaos?
Source: The Dispatch
by Kevin D Williamson
“The feeling among populists — and revolutionaries — is always that the status quo is unjust. And if the outcome is unjust, then the system that produced the outcome must be unjust, too. That is why you see so much contempt for norms, procedures, constitutional checks and balances, and things of that nature among populists. The Trump-aligned populists obviously are the more relevant ones just now, but the Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren followers have just as much contempt for norms and the rule of law when it comes to things like property rights, investment income, corporate governance, etc., and government’s effect on these. Another way of saying this is that there is one vision of justice that is substantive and another that is procedural.” (11/25/24)

“The incoming Trump administration may be preparing to deny citizenship rights to children of undocumented immigrants born in the United States. That’s according to recent reporting, a statement on Nov. 11 by a presidential transition member helping develop the new administration’s plans for the Justice Department, and a ‘Day One’ video made by President-elect Trump during the campaign (incoming border czar Tom Homan also supports ending birthright citizenship). According to the New York Times, ‘the team plans to stop issuing citizenship-affirming documents, like passports and Social Security cards, to infants born on domestic soil to undocumented migrant parents in a bid to end birthright citizenship.’ Such policies would be a blatant violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, both the text and the original meaning.” (11/25/24)

“Four years ago, just days into the Biden administration with the Senate divided down the middle, the senior senator from South Dakota rose in eloquent defense of deliberation and compromise. ‘Our Founders recognized the importance of putting safeguards in place to ensure that majorities wouldn’t curtail or eliminate minority rights,’ said John Thune, a Republican, from the Senate floor. ‘They made the Senate smaller and senators’ terms of office longer, with the intention of creating a more stable, more thoughtful, and more deliberative legislative body to check ill-considered or intemperate legislation or attempts to curtail minority rights.’ Those words are freshly relevant. Mr. Thune is the newly elected leader of the incoming Republican Senate majority. The article, titled The Silent Revenge of Hydroxychloroquine, finally acknowledges the undeniable effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine against Covid-19. It was no longer possible to ignore the 418 clinical studies on hydroxychloroquine or to keep repeating canned phrases like ‘proven ineffective,’ as the media — guided by either paid pro-Big Pharma science communicators or naive followers — had insisted on doing since the pandemic’s start. 28) Trump’s “Day One” Dictatorship
Source: Future of Freedom Foundation

“During his recent campaign for the presidency, Donald Trump made it clear that he fully intended to become a dictator on day one of his presidency. Then, a few days ago, he confirmed that as soon as he becomes president, he intends to declare a ‘national emergency’ to justify his use of the military establishment to round up and deport an estimated 13 million immigrants living here in the United States without official permission. I know that it’s not considered a politic thing to do to bring up acts committed by German leader Adolf Hitler. But I disagree. When it comes to dictatorship, I think most everyone would agree that Hitler sets the standard. Thus, if a ruler does something that Hitler did, I think that a presumption arises that that act should be viewed with some suspicion. Therefore, sometimes such a comparison can be helpful.” (11/25/24)

“‘If they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?’ (Luke 23:31) … Before November 5th, millions of us were already struggling with poverty, extreme storms, immigration nightmares, anti-trans bills, criminalized reproductive health, the demolition of homeless encampments, the silencing of freedom of speech on campuses … and, of course, the list only goes on and on. Since Donald Trump and J.D. Vance were elected, more of us find ourselves in a state of fear and trembling, given the reports of transgender people attacked in broad daylight, misogynist social media posts threatening ‘your body, my choice,’ Black college students receiving notes about returning to enslavement, and the unhoused beaten and battered.” (11/25/24)

31) Ashli Babbitt tragedy and the buried January 6 truth
Source: New York Post
by Miranda Devine
“So now we know that the cop who fatally shot [violent rioter] Ashli Babbitt, 36, during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot was rewarded with a promotion and a $36,000 bonus. There were no ill consequences for his rash actions that day. Instead, Capt. Michael Byrd, 56, was held up as a hero of democracy, despite the fact that he had a lengthy disciplinary record that includes leaving his loaded handgun in a public bathroom in the Capitol Visitor Center, ‘improperly’ firing his gun at a car near his home while off duty and abusing a Maryland cop who tried to stop him entering a high school football field as a ‘racist a–hole,’ again while off duty, according to a letter released last week by the GOP-led House Administration Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight.” (11/24/24)

32) The Shallowness of Celebrity Politics
Source: Law & Liberty
by Stephen G Adubato
“The plot of Fritz Lang’s enigmatic 1927 silent film Metropolis revolves around a group of powerful elites determined to maintain their hold over the masses. To do so, they set out to invent artificial crises with the intention to set the everyday folk against each other and thus distract them from the real crisis of the elite’s inordinate and corrupt power. In an attempt to mask their efforts, they craftily pluck a girl from among the masses — one of ‘their own kind’ — to do their dirty work of fomenting this false antagonism and drag her people into chaos and disorder. Plenty of doomsday prophets and conspiracy theorists have used Lang’s film to fuel their apocalyptic read on current events.” (11/25/24)

33) Trump’s Cabinet Picks Not Looking Good For Peace In Ukraine
Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist
by Caitlin Johnstone
“Conventional wisdom about the outgoing Biden administration’s reckless escalations in Ukraine these past few days is that things will cool down once Donald Trump takes office, but Trump’s cabinet picks aren’t really selling this idea. While Trump did campaign on ending the war in Ukraine, the president elect has given multiple cabinet appointments to strategists who say that the way to achieve that peace is to substantially escalate aggressions against Russia. … Sebastian Gorka, who Trump has named as his next senior director for counterterrorism, is on record saying that Trump has told him he plans on saying to Putin, ‘You will negotiate now or the aid that we have given to Ukraine thus far will look like peanuts.'” (11/25/24)

35) Belated Loosening of Restrictions on Ukraine Leaves World Stumbling Towards Greater Danger
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille
“It’s sometimes possible to forget in a chaotic world, but Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drags on, as does Ukraine’s defense against its aggressor. Overlooking that ongoing and bloody conflict is unfortunate since recent developments have heightened tensions between Russia and its allies on the one hand, and the U.S. and NATO on the other. Not least of these developments is the exiting Biden administration’s belated decision to let Ukraine use American missiles against targets in Russia — leaving an exhausted Ukraine, the new Trump administration, and the world to deal with the consequences.” (11/25/24)

36) Putin Is Throwing Human Waves at Ukraine, But Can’t Do It Forever
Source: Foreign Policy
by Alexey Kovalev
“One of the bleakest places on Earth today is the central processing facility for the remains of dead soldiers in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, the logistical hub of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Designed to process hundreds of corpses at a time, this sprawling mega-morgue has been hopelessly overwhelmed for many months. … the horrific rate at which Russians are getting killed at the front — much higher than corresponding Ukrainian losses, although exact numbers are kept secret by both sides — points to two disturbing truths about the Russian way of waging war. First, a cruel disregard for human life extends to Russia’s own forces, which the Kremlin systematically deploys in so-called meat grinder and human-wave attacks. Second, mass death among Russian troops has become part of an increasingly explicit eugenics policy, by which the Kremlin seeks to rid Russia of undesirable elements and reconfigure the Russian population.” (11/25/24)

37) As CMS administrator, 3 things Dr. Oz can do to help fix American health care
Source: Fox News
by David Bernstein & Christopher DiGiovanni
“Dr. Mehmet Oz, nominated by President-elect Trump to be the next CMS administrator, will have his hands full when he takes the reins of our agency that provides health insurance for over 140 million Americans and accounts for one quarter of the nation’s budget. Through bold and principled leadership and effective communication, he holds the potential to make a positive, lasting difference. It’s no secret our health care system is broken. We continue to spend more and more money without any clear return on investment when it comes to our nation’s health and well-being. In fact, nearly 50% of Americans live with one chronic health condition, such as diabetes, hypertension, or obesity. And when it comes to children, one study predicts that over 220,000 people under the age of 20 will have type 2 diabetes by 2060, an increase of 700%.” (11/25/24)

Source: USA Today
“In the four years after Donald Trump’s first presidential term, Democrats have thrown around a number of norm-shattering ideas to undo much of his legacy. From abolishing the Senate filibuster to packing the court, Democrats have proposed a wide array of actions that would lay waste to the American political landscape. Fast-forward to the dawn of Trump’s second term, and Democrats should be thankful that they weren’t able to take such impulsive and drastic actions. Now, in fact, it’s likely that Republicans will toy with those same decisions in Trump’s ridiculous recess appointments plot. Politics has a way of coming full circle.” (11/25/24)

Source: CounterPunch
by Binoy Kampmark
“There is something enormously satisfying about seeing those in the war racket worry that their assumptions on conflict have been upended. There they were, happily funding, planning and preparing to battle against threats imagined or otherwise, and there comes Donald Trump, malice and petulance combined, to pull the rug from under them again. What is fascinating about the return of Trump to the White House is that critics think his next round of potentially rowdy occupancy is going to encourage, rather than discourage war. Conflict may be the inadvertent consequence of any number of unilateral policies Trump might pursue, but they do not tally with his anti-war platform. Whatever can be said about his adolescent demagogic tendencies, a love of war is curiously absent from the complement. A tendency to predictable unpredictability, however, is.” (11/25/24)

40) Will Armageddon Be Joe Biden’s Final Legacy Regarding Russia?
Source: Antiwar.com
by Ted Galen Carpenter
“It is uncertain whether President-elect Trump intends to end the dangerous impasse with Moscow. Contrary to the partisan myth that Trump has been Putin’s puppet, his actual policies during his first term were consistently hardline. One can hope, though, that he has fully understood what a disaster Washington’s love affair with Ukraine has become for both countries. Restoring cooperative bilateral relations with Russia is essential for global peace. Alarmingly, however, Trump might not get that opportunity, even if he wishes to back away from the beckoning abyss. The lame-duck Biden administration still holds power for nearly another two months, and, if administration leaders are so inclined, that is more than enough time to plunge the country into nuclear war.” (11/25/24)

41) History Will Not Be Kind to Biden’s Complicity in Gaza
Source: Common Dreams
by James Zogby
“History will not be kind to the presidency of Joseph Biden when it evaluates his administration’s handling of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. At best, his response will be judged weak and feckless. At worst, he will be seen as enabling of or even complicitous in the crimes committed. Examples of both the fecklessness and complicity abound. Here are just a few examples: * On April 4 of this year, the New York Times ran a story under the headline: ‘President Biden told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that future U.S. support ‘will be determined’ by how Israel treats civilians in Gaza.'” (11/25/24)

43) How to overthrow America’s war cartel
Source: Responsible Statecraft
by Daniel Larison
“The U.S. must retrench for the sake of its own security, but there are many domestic political obstacles that make retrenchment practically impossible under current conditions. The status quo strategy of military primacy is too deeply entrenched and there are too many established interests committed to its preservation. To change that, there needs to be a major overhaul of America’s domestic political system and its foreign policy, and neither can succeed without the other. That is the heart of Peter Harris’[s] case for reform in his excellent new book, ‘Why America Can’t Retrench (And How It Might).’ It is essential reading for advocates of foreign policy restraint.” (11/25/24)

“After reports that British MPs wanted to summon Elon Musk to interrogate him about the role of his company, X (Twitter), ‘in disseminating ‘disinformation’ during the summer riots,’ I didn’t suppose that he’d be eager to rush across the pond to be grilled by enemies of freedom of speech. One of his would-be interrogators, Chi Onwurah, a Labour committee chairwoman, said she wanted to ‘cross-examine him to see … how he reconciles his promotion of freedom of expression with his promotion of pure disinformation.’ What a mystery. How can someone champion freedom of speech and letting people say things with which others disagree? Isn’t freedom of speech only for government-authorized speech, the kind King George III would have approved?” (11/25/24)

45) As Trump 47 Looms, Biden Brings World to Brink of War
Source: Town Hall
by Jeff Crouere
“Since his election, President-Elect Donald Trump has worked quickly to assemble a first-rate cabinet that will disrupt the ‘Deep State’ and bring much-needed change to our federal government. Unfortunately, we must wait until January 20, 2025, for his inauguration. Until then, the entire world is in danger of being plunged into a nuclear war, compliments of President Joe Biden and the team of warmongers controlling him. Last week, it was announced that Biden had given Ukraine approval to use long-range American missiles, MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems, to strike deep inside Russia. After the decision was announced, Ukraine waited only one day to launch six of the American-made missiles into Russia. Ultimately, Russia destroyed five of them and damaged another one. The remnants of the remaining missile struck a weapons arsenal, resulting in a fire and minimal damage.” (11/25/24)

“In what many characterize as an attempt by Uncle Joe’s puppet-masters to force The Donald’s new administration into open war with Russia in and over Ukraine, DC has told Ukraine it is okay to use US long-range missiles to attack targets in Russia itself. So of course, Moscow has responded negatively, as reported in the Gateway Pundit: Russian forces now may use nuclear weapons to respond to non-nuclear attacks, if the survival and integrity of the Russian Federation is threatened. Putin seems to still view this as defensive and not offensive. Which has been the American (well, FedGov) position for decades. (Although that is supposedly denied today.)” (11/24/24)

“When Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) resigned from the House of Representatives in 2010, just hours before the Office of Congressional Ethics was set to release a report on its ethics investigation into his actions, it was undoubtedly to protect his ongoing gubernatorial bid from any backlash. I was one of OCE’s very first investigators at the time, where we had the responsibility of bringing an independent, nonpartisan eye to accusations of congressional ethics violations. Despite his resignation, the OCE decided unanimously that the public had a right to know whether Deal had met the rigorous standards to which we hold our elected officials. … Justice shouldn’t have a time limit. Creating a loophole where representatives can withhold information from the public by resigning at the right moment is a dangerous precedent and why we have chosen to release ethics reports on former representatives in the past …” (11/24/24)

48) Where do Democrats go from here?
Source: Orange County Register
by Douglas Schoen
“In the weeks since Republicans decisively won the White House as well as both chambers of Congress, Democrats and pundits alike have voiced countless theories for their defeat. However, the even more critical question is, where do Democrats go from here? Do Democrats double down on the ‘resistance’ that has defined the party for the better part of a decade? Or do Democrats try a different approach and return to the center in order to win back millions of voters who have abandoned the party? … Whatever President-elect Donald Trump supported, Democrats rejected and organized in resistance to, often at the expense of formulating their own competing policies. Now, with the politics of resistance soundly rejected, if Democrats want to remain politically viable, they need to return to the center and develop policies for actual issues.” (11/24/24)

“I obviously have many thoughts about the worst attributes of Trump attorney general nominee Pam Bondi. She was elected Florida’s attorney general to protect the public from fraud and abuse, and then fired two prosecutors in her office who were doing just that, because the fraudsters happened to be her campaign donors. But after she was termed out as Florida AG, Bondi made the move of so many elected officials: spinning through the revolving door and becoming a lobbyist, explicitly serving the powerful rather than indirectly doing so as a politician. She joined Ballard Partners, a previously unassuming law firm led by Brian Ballard that shot into the stratosphere in the first Trump term because one of his former clients was none other than Donald J. “There are few things more heartbreaking in this world than watching someone you love in an abusive relationship. Sadly, I’ve seen it firsthand, up close and personal, and it’s harder to sit through than a train crash. To see a selfless and loving spirit sacrifice their safety and self-esteem on the altar of some conniving predator with a bouquet in one hand and a hammer in the other… Trying to convince that selfless and loving spirit that that bouquet and that hammer are a package deal, and they deserve better than to be trapped in an endless loop of empty apologies and sadistic degradation… It’s infuriatingly sickening and downright soul shattering, especially when you are a survivor of abuse yourself.
