Prophet, anyone who murders him, I will reward him with $100,000,'

war with Israel, raising the prospect of a broader conflict that would

"Bashuta, the 400-pound tiger who mauled a man who jumped from an
elevated train into the Bronx Zoo Wild Asia exhibit Friday, 'did
nothing wrong' and won't be euthanized, zoo officials say. The
acknowledgement that the 26-year-old man was the culprit and the big
cat was only acting out its nature isn't uncommon in tiger attacks. In
a long line of tiger attack cases, survivors tend to blame themselves
or other factors, not the cats. Some victims even mourn when big cats
are put down after an attack." [editor's note: Nice to know that

capital gains or sales. Proponents say the tiny, as-yet unnamed town
will become a Central American beacon of job creation and investment,

that it can achieve the same favorable effect with a dose three times
less powerful, using the most prescribed drug of its kind in its

has concluded that the state will not issue driver's licenses to
undocumented immigrants granted work permits under President Barack
Obama's deferred-action program. The decision, confirmed Friday in
response to an inquiry by The Arizona Republic, is consistent with

the attack on our Benghazi consulate and the murder of Ambassador
Chris Stevens was the result of a spontaneous demonstration that got

in hand with it. Taxation was what feudal systems used so as to pay
rent to the monarchy. The monarch, after all, used to own the realm.
All of it. So just as owners of apartment houses, monarch's collect
rent from those living in there. The meaning of this is that members
of the population got to live in the country by permission of the
government, be that a tzar, king, pharaoh, caesar or some other ruler

medical marijuana businesses, despite President Obama's promise to
refrain from doing so. Countering that crackdown is a 2012 ballot
initiative that would make Colorado the first state to fully legalize
marijuana and regulate it like alcohol." (09/21/12)

47) Romney tax returns: Days late, $$ short, still incomplete
Source: The Nation
by George Zornick

"After months of withering attacks, Mitt Romney has finally (sort of)
lifted the veil of secrecy around his personal finances. At 3 pm, his
campaign released his full 2011 tax return and a summary from
PriceWaterhouseCooper of his tax filings over twenty years, from
1990-2009. The bottom line: as everyone suspected, Romney pays a lower
tax rate than the typical middle-class family -- and he seems to have
purposely engineered a higher rate for himself for optical reasons.
Moreover, by only summarizing the past twenty years of returns,
there's a lot we don't know. Here's a look at what we learned so
far." (09/21/12)

48) How Obama came to be the biggest defender of indefinite detention
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille

"Perhaps it's all for the best that the Obama administration oversaw
the scrubbing of civil liberties vows that graced the 2008 Democratic
Party platform from the 2012 edition. It's one thing to promise to end
practices implemented by your nefarious political opponents; it's
quite another to commit to ending abuses you yourself have practiced
without restraint." (09/21/12)

49) A sure-fire place to cut the US defense budget
Source: Christian Science Monitor
by John C. Hulsman

"It is the kind of bizarre Alice-in-Wonderland story that drives
average Americans crazy. Confronted with the worst economic crisis
since the Great Depression, the federal government has insisted on
continuing to fund a defense program that will admittedly never be
made operational. Instead of recognizing the blindingly obvious, and
ending this farcical story, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has instead
urged the Senate Appropriations Committee to reinsert $400 million in
funding for the air-defense program known as MEADS (Medium Extended
Air Defense System). He wants to take advantage of research on the
surveillance radar part of the program." (09/21/12)

50) Pentagon spending: Politics & profit trump national security
Source: Our Future
by Stephen Miles & William Hartung

"This week in Washington the halls of Congress have been flooded with
talk about looming cuts to the Pentagon. With members of Congress
floating plans to undo planned cuts (known in Congressional jargon as
'sequestration') due to start in January, the lobbyists for America's
weapons makers, the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), have been
storming the Hill to scare Congress with talk of layoffs and
'doomsday.'" (09/21/12)
