Source: Investing.com

“Bitcoin extended losses on Tuesday, tumbling below $105,000, as one of the largest liquidation waves in weeks swept through crypto markets and investors grew wary over the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate outlook. The world’s largest cryptocurrency last traded 2.4% lower at $104,956.8 by 01:02 ET (06:02 GMT). Bitcoin declined nearly 4% in the previous session, reaching its lowest level since mid-October.” (11/04/25)

2)  Russia: Ukrainian forces attack petrochemical plant with drones
Source: Reuters

“A Ukrainian drone attack damaged the Sterlitamak petrochemical plant deep inside Russia, causing a partial collapse of a water-treatment facility but no injuries, regional authorities said on Tuesday.
The plant in the Bashkortostan region, some 1,500 km (932 miles) from the Ukrainian border in the Urals Mountains, was operating without interruption, the head of the Bashkortostan region, Radiy Khabirov, said on the Telegram messaging app. … Kyiv has stepped up long-range drone and missile strikes inside Russia, hitting oil refineries, depots and logistics hubs it says feed the Kremlin’s war machine.” (11/04/25)

3)  Trump regime agrees to partially fund SNAP despite government shutdown
Source: New York Post

“The federal food stamp program will pay out partial benefits to millions of Americans despite running out of regular funding at the start of this month due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Trump administration confirmed in court documents Monday. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive about 50% of its normal benefit level throughout November, using a contingency fund set aside for natural disasters and other emergencies. The announcement by the White House follows a pair of Friday rulings by federal judges in Boston and Providence, RI rejecting the US Department of Agriculture’s plan to stop paying out benefits Nov. 1.” (11/03/25)

4)  Israel: Former top military lawyer arrested for leaking video of IDF prisoner abuse
Source: BBC News [UK state media]

“The former top lawyer in the Israeli military has been arrested, as a political showdown deepens over the leaking of a video that allegedly shows severe abuse of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers. Maj Gen Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned as the Military Advocate General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) last week, saying that she took full responsibility for the leak. … Broadcast in August 2024 on an Israeli news channel, the footage shows reserve soldiers at the Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel taking aside a detainee, then surrounding him with riot shields to block visibility while he was allegedly beaten and stabbed in the rectum with a sharp object. The detainee was subsequently treated for severe injuries. Five reservists were subsequently charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious bodily harm to the detainee. They have denied the charges and have not been named.” (11/03/25)

5)  Ban on Trump’s Proposed Occupation of Portland Extended as Judge Mulls Trial Verdict
Source: Bloomberg

“A US judge extended a temporary block on President Donald Trump’s planned deployment of National Guard members to Portland, Oregon, while she weighs a final verdict in a court fight over the legality of sending troops into the city. US District Judge Karin Immergut, who oversaw a three-day trial in Portland last week, issued a preliminary injunction late Sunday barring deployment until at least Nov. 5. She’d originally planned to issue her verdict Sunday, but said she needed more time to decide the merits of a lawsuit filed by Portland and the state of Oregon. … Immergut said the evidence so far indicates the Trump administration likely violated federal law and the US Constitution by attempting to deploy National Guard troops without a valid cause.” (11/03/25)

6)  Romania: Regime Regulator Blacklists Polymarket Over Election Wagers
Source: Gadgets 360 [India]

“Romania’s National Office for Gambling (ONJN) has officially blacklisted leading blockchain-based prediction market Polymarket, citing its operation as an unlicensed gambling platform outside state oversight. The regulator’s action follows a significant spike in cryptocurrency-based wagering during the local and presidential elections in Romania, when Polymarket’s trading volume topped $600 million (roughly Rs. 53,200 crore). Authorities stated that, despite the platform’s use of blockchain technology, its structure and activities fall under the country’s gambling laws.” (11/03/25)

7)  Judge Officially Ends Justin Baldoni’s $400 Million Countersuit Against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds After Missed Deadline
Source: People

“Justin Baldoni’s $400 million defamation countersuit against Blake Lively has been formally ended by a judge after he failed to file an amended complaint before the deadline. On Friday, Oct. 31, U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Liman signed a new order, stating that Baldoni, 41, and his Wayfarer Studios co-plaintiffs had let the deadline lapse after the court dismissed their case back in June. … According to a document reviewed by PEOPLE, Lively, 38, was the only one to respond, asking the judge to declare the final judgment, but for her request for legal fees to remain active, which the judge agreed to. … Baldoni’s setback is the latest twist in the It Ends with Us legal saga, which began in December when Lively sued him for misconduct on the set and a retaliatory smear campaign, claims which he has denied. Lively’s original lawsuit is ongoing.” (11/03/25)

8)  Spain: Valencia’s Mazón resigns over handling of deadly floods
Source: BBC News [UK state media]

“The president of Spain’s Valencia region, Carlos Mazón, has resigned after months of pressure over his handling of flash floods last year. A total of 229 people died in towns in the Valencia region on 29 October 2024, with a further eight dying in neighbouring regions, in Spain’s worst natural disaster for decades. Many in Valencia blamed Mazón for the scale of the tragedy because of how he and his government responded that day. It emerged that the regional president had spent nearly four hours in a restaurant with a journalist, Maribel Vilaplana, while the floodwater was wreaking havoc and he did not attend emergency meetings during much of the day. Mazón’s government also failed to issue an emergency alert to the phones of Valencia residents warning them of the floods and providing advice until after 20:00, by which times dozens of people had already died.” (11/03/25)

9)  Czech Republic: Babis Signs Coalition Deal With Eurosceptic Partners
Source: US News & World Report

“Populist Czech billionaire Andrej Babis'[s] ANO party signed a coalition deal with fringe right-wing allies on Monday, moving closer to regaining power after winning a vote on promises of hiking spending and opposing EU climate and migration policies. Babis'[s] return to power with the fringe allies will strengthen the populist, anti-immigration and national sovereignty camp within the European Union that could weaken backing for Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s invasion. Babis, 71, served as prime minister from 2017-2021. He is joining forces with the Motorists party, which is sceptical about climate change, and the SPD party, which is against the EU and NATO. He has said he wants to form a government by mid-December.” (11/03/25)

Source: Fox News

“A Mexican mayor who was outspoken in his opposition to drug cartels and pushed for hardline laws against trafficking was killed in a shooting at a Day of the Dead celebration this weekend. Before his death, Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo had been critical of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for what he saw as a lack of effort in combating cartels. His city lies in Michoacán State, which suffers from particularly high levels of cartel violence. … State officials say Manzo was shot seven times on Saturday night during a Day of the Dead vigil. He died of his wounds in a nearby hospital.” (11/03/25)

Under the agreement announced on Monday, OpenAI will immediately begin running workloads on AWS infrastructure, tapping hundreds of thousands of Nvidia’s graphics processing units (GPUs) in the U.S., with plans to expand capacity in the coming years. “Two men who had acquired high-powered weapons and practiced at gun ranges were scouting LGBTQ+ bars in suburban Detroit for a possible attack, authorities said Monday in filing terrorism-related charges against the pair. Momed Ali, Majed Mahmoud and co-conspirators were inspired by the Islamic State group’s extremism, according to a 72-page criminal complaint unsealed in federal court. Investigators say a minor, identified only as Person 1, was deeply involved in the discussions. … FBI agents had surveilled them for weeks, even using a camera on a pole outside a Dearborn house, according to the court filing. Investigators also got access to encrypted chats and other conversations and scoured social media posts. Ali and Mahmoud were charged with receiving and transferring guns and ammunition for terrorism.” (11/03/25)

14) Tanzania: Hassan sworn in for new term as opposition says hundreds killed in election protests
Source: France 24 [French state media]

“Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn into office on Monday for her first elected term after winning a landslide victory in an election that set off deadly protests across the country. Hassan, who came to power in 2021 following the death in office of her predecessor, was declared the winner of last week’s election with 97.66 percent of the vote. … Hassan, 65, ran against only candidates from minor parties after her main challengers from the two biggest opposition parties were disqualified from the race. Violent protests erupted during last Wednesday’s voting …. As Hassan was inaugurated on Monday an internet blackout was still in place. The main opposition party said hundreds of people had been killed in the protests, while the UN human rights office said credible reports indicated at least 10 people were killed in three cities.” (11/03/25)

15) Guinea: Coup leader enters presidential race
Source: BBC News [UK state media]

“The military commander who has ruled Guinea since a coup four years ago has entered the presidential race, breaking an earlier promise to hand power to a civilian government. Col Mamadi Doumbouya submitted his candidacy at the Supreme Court on Monday, flanked by soldiers and wearing black sunglasses. He did not make any public comment. Two of Guinea’s biggest opposition parties — RPG Arc en Ciel and UFDG — have been excluded from December’s contest. This has raised concerns about the election’s credibility. Guineans had reacted with shock last month when it was announced that presidential candidates would need to pay a deposit of 875m Guinean francs ($100,000; £75,000) to contest the election.” (11/03/25)

The early stages of training for the potential mission, which would include ground operations inside Mexico, has already begun, the two current U.S. officials said. But a deployment to Mexico is not imminent, the two U.S. officials and one of the former U.S. officials said. Discussions about the scope of the mission are ongoing, and a final decision has not been made, the two current U.S. officials said.” (11/03/25)

17) NYC: Mamdani vows to defy Trump in fiery final campaign march
Source: Fox News

“Mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani struck a defiant tone in an early morning speech Monday in response to President Donald Trump’s ‘threats’ to block federal funding to New York City if the democratic socialist is elected Tuesday. Mamdani marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall …. Flanked by supporters, local officials and Attorney General Letitia James, Mamdani promised to fight back against the Trump administration. … Trump told CBS'[s] Norah O’Donnell on ’60 Minutes’ Sunday that if Mamdani wins, it is ‘going to be hard for me, as the president, to give a lot of money to New York.’ … ‘I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other, but if it’s going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’m going to pick that bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you’ …. Mamdani on Monday referenced Trump’s aforementioned comments as an endorsement of Cuomo.” (11/03/25)

19) CA: San Francisco officials give update after airborne plutonium detected
Source: SFGate

“Public health officials in San Francisco said no ‘immediate action’ is needed to protect public safety after airborne plutonium was detected in the city. In 2024, the radioactive substance Pu-239 was detected in the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, which was used as a repair shipyard for the U.S. Navy for nearly 30 years. The plutonium was detected in an air filter in November 2024, but the San Francisco Health Department said in a letter to Navy officials that it was not alerted until last month. … Pu-239 has a half-life of over 24,000 years and can stay in the body for decades even if ingested or inhaled in small amounts, potentially increasing the risk of developing cancer.” (11/03/25)

20) FDA’s top drug regulator resigns after federal officials probe “serious concerns”
Source: Seattle Times

“The head of the Food and Drug Administration’s drug center abruptly resigned Sunday after federal officials began reviewing ‘serious concerns about his personal conduct,’ according to a government spokesperson. Dr. George Tidmarsh, who was named to the FDA post in July, was placed on leave Friday after officials in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of General Counsel were notified of the issues, HHS press secretary Emily Hilliard said in an email. Tidmarsh then resigned Sunday morning. … The departure came the same day that a drugmaker connected to one of Tidmarsh’s former business associates filed a lawsuit alleging that he made ‘false and defamatory statements,’ during his time at the FDA. The lawsuit, brought by Aurinia Pharmaceuticals, alleges that Tidmarsh used his FDA position to pursue a ‘longstanding personal vendetta’ against the chair of the company’s board of directors, Kevin Tang.” (11/02/25)

21) No, Reagan Was Not Pro-Tariff
Source: The Daily Economy
by David Hebert & Marcus M Witcher

“President Trump last week ended trade talks with Canada because of an advertisement sponsored by the Ontario government featuring snippets of a 1987 speech Ronald Reagan gave, explaining the dangers of protectionism. The point of the advert was clear: protectionism hurts everyone, including the country imposing the protectionist policies. In response, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute has said that ‘the ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek, nor receive, permission to use and edit the remarks.’ While it is presumably true that the Government of Ontario neither sought nor received permission to use and edit the remarks, the question of whether Reagan’s general view of tariffs and trade was misrepresented isn’t really open for debate. No, the ad uses Reagan’s own words to beautifully capture his principled support for free trade and exchange.” (11/03/25)

22) The Angry Young Men and the Soul of MAGA
Source: The Ramparts
by j.b

“About a year or so ago, videos began circulating on TikTok that showed AI-translated speeches from Hitler. Suddenly, people could hear him in a language they understood, in a way that removed the filter of history’s shorthand. … Ordinary people — teenagers, young men, and women who were not political actors — were reacting not to the horror we all know, but to the speeches as arguments about economics, national revival, and societal structure. … The response from the platforms was swift. The videos were removed. Accounts were banned. Outrage was mounted. That might have stopped the spread, but it didn’t stop the question forming in the minds of those who saw it: Why can’t I hear this? Why am I not allowed to evaluate these ideas for myself? When you tell people they cannot confront certain ideas, you do not extinguish curiosity; you amplify it.” (11/03/25)

23) Two Problems with Wars of Religion
Source: Pierre Lemieux
by Pierre Lemieux

“The theological question is, why would a Christian want to kill Muslims even to prevent them from killing other Christians? On the one hand, the martyred Christians are eligible for a blissful eternal life, which has an infinite value, incommensurable with any suffering in their infinitesimally short life on this earth. On the other hand, killing a Muslim for attacking Christians will send him to hell for eternity, while letting him live offers him a chance, as small as it may be, to later discover the true religion and save his soul. … This is as far as we (or I) can go here toward a theological proof that wars of religion are absurd. Economics, however, can explain why they happen, which is the second problem I want to address.” (11/03/25)

24) Enjoy CarPlay While You Still Can
Source: The Atlantic
by Patrick George

“Last month, General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced that new cars made by the auto giant won’t support CarPlay and its counterpart, Android Auto. Ditching smartphone mirroring may seem to make as much sense as removing cup holders: Recent preliminary data from AutoPacific, a research firm, suggest that CarPlay and Android Auto are considered must-have features among many new-car shoppers. But according to GM, the company can create an even better experience for drivers by dropping Apple and making its own software. And like it or not, the move says a lot about where the auto industry is headed. … Because GM’s software isn’t tied to a phone like CarPlay is, access to the full suite of software requires its own data plan—through GM, of course. (The cheapest plan costs $10 a month.) Get used to these kinds of subscriptions, regardless of what kind of car you drive.” (11/03/25)

25) The president has no “foreign policy” discretion to impose sweeping global tariffs
Source: Orange County Register
by Ben Bayer

“Trump claims that his tariffs are not unconstitutional, because his unique discretion over foreign policy means Congress has not delegated away its powers. But in its attempt to sanction unprecedented authoritarian powers over domestic affairs, this argument distorts the meaning of the president’s actual foreign policy power. The president’s discretion over trade applies only in wartime against specific belligerents — not in perpetuity or even against our allies. … The idea that the president is due some deference to manage his sweeping global tariffs in the name of ‘foreign policy’ is a complete sham.” (11/03/25)

26) The War Party Is Out of Ideological Ammunition
Source: Libertarian Institute
by Scott Horton

“The Israelis and their amen corner have had a powerful narrative that all good rightwingers are Zionists until you go all the way to the avowed-fascist, anti-Semitic factions. Tucker [Carlson] proves every day that that is not true. So all they can do is try to lamely insist that he’s included. As anyone who actually watched Tucker’s interview with Nick Fuentes — rather than just shrieking about it — could tell you, he, again, made his own views very clear, and they were not hateful in any way. He in fact insisted it was against his Christian religion to hate anyone or to identify individual people as collectively guilty for anything — which is also the same reason he opposes being made to help fund and support Israel’s slaughter of innocents in Palestine.” (11/03/25)

28) World War Gorka
Source: The Realist Review
by James W Carden

“In this administration some Christians are more cherished than others; Trump and Co. have shown zero sympathy for the scores of Palestinian Christians murdered by the IDF and Benjamin Netanyahu, a frequent and honored guest at the White House and on Capitol Hill. That aside, the planned Nigeria operation is clearly the product of the capacious imagination of Sebastian Gorka, Trump’s chief counter-terrorism adviser. Who is this Gorka? Before coming to the White House he was a radio host (‘America First with Sebastian Gorka’) and a pitchman for Relief Factor, a dietary supplement. America First? An odd name for a program hosted by someone with British, Hungarian and American citizenship — and with probable ties to foreign intelligence.” (11/03/25)

by Caitlin Johnstone

“Massacre fetishist Lindsey Graham said ‘Trump is my favorite president’ because ‘we’re killing all the right people and we’re cutting your taxes’ during a speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Leadership Summit on Friday. ‘We’ve run out of bombs; we didn’t run out of bombs in World War II,’ the senator said. If Lindsey Graham ever gushed about me this effusively for any reason I think I would have to shave my head and join a convent or something, because it would be a clear and undeniable sign that I had been living my whole entire life completely wrong. It says a lot about how much of a warmonger Trump has become that he himself actually slammed Lindsey Graham repeatedly during his first crack at the presidency for being such a firebreathing war slut.” (11/03/25)

30) America Needs a Free-Trade Party
Source: The Dispatch
by Jeremiah Johnson

“For decades, the working consensus in American politics was that free trade was good. Every Republican presidential nominee from Gerald Ford to Mitt Romney supported agreements to expand and liberalize international trade. Democrats have historically been a bit more reluctant, but their most successful presidents of the last 50 years — Bill Clinton and Barack Obama — both championed free trade and pursued large, multilateral trade agreements. … That changed in 2016. Hillary Clinton broke with the Obama administration to oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership, and Donald Trump tore up the GOP’s traditional views on trade to promote heavily protectionist, anti-trade policies. … If Republicans are now the party of high tariffs and trade skepticism, Democrats can’t just be the party of ‘tariffs, but smarter.’ America needs at least one of our major parties to stand up, loudly and clearly, for free trade.” (11/03/25)

31) John Brennan’s unhinged blowup over “Dirty 51” letter & Hunter Biden laptop shows he’s worried
Source: New York Post
by Miranda Devine

“It was satisfying to see former CIA Director John Brennan lose his cool when he was cornered in his comfortable lair among cronies in Virginia last week about his various plots against Donald Trump. Brennan was basking in the adulation of friends and assorted gullible future spooks as he sat on stage as part of an intelligence panel at the Hayden Center at George Mason University outside Washington, DC, Thursday night. But his smug demeanor cracked when he was confronted by whistleblower Thomas Speciale during audience question time. Speciale asked Brennan why he overrode objections from CIA Moscow specialists to force the discredited and perverted Steele dossier into the 2017 intelligence assessment that launched the Russiagate scheme to frame Trump as a Russian asset. ‘Yes, but doesn’t it ring true?’ Brennan told the experts he was railroading.” (11/02/25)

32) Stay Out of Nigeria
Source: Eunomia
by Daniel Larison

“Trump is misrepresenting what is happening in Nigeria, but U.S. military intervention in Nigeria for any reason makes no sense. The U.S. certainly shouldn’t intervene in Nigeria without the Nigerian government’s consent. Our government shouldn’t be looking for new reasons to increase American military involvement in west Africa. U.S. policy in the region has mostly strengthened militarism in partner countries, and that has fueled conflicts in one country after another. Direct U.S. intervention is not the answer.” (11/03/25)

33) Zohran Mamdani as Mayor: Affordability and the Dignity of Working People
Source: TomDispatch
by Douglas H White

“On Tuesday, New York, the largest city in America, has an opportunity to elect Zohran Mamdani, a young man, a democratic socialist, an immigrant (at age seven), a Muslim, a progressive, and someone hated by Donald Trump. And no wonder, since he’s the antithesis of Trump. No wonder he brings fear to the reactionary forces largely represented by the president and his supporters. Zohran Mamdani is one of nearly 3.1 million immigrants now living in New York City, close to one-third of its total population. Its inhabitants are 30.9% White, 28.7% Hispanic or Latino, 20.2% Black or African American, and 15% Asian. There are also 800 languages spoken in New York City …. That fact does anything but warm the hearts of reactionary folks, since many of them worry about what’s known as ‘replacement theory,’ an idea created by White nationalist Republican strategists to scare the hell out of their base.” (11/03/25)

34) Chicago Cops Ignore the Law, Arrest Legal Gun Owners
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille

“The whole premise of a mother-may-I approach to licensing activities like owning and carrying firearms is that the powers that be will honor the documents of those lucky enough to receive permission after agreeing to pretend that their rights are privileges. If, instead, officialdom laughs at the licenses it issues and penalizes people foolish enough to take them seriously, there’s no point submitting to the humiliating process of begging indulgence from government officials to begin with. This brings us to the trend of Chicago police arresting legal gun owners, even though they possessed and showed documents allowing them to own and carry firearms.” (11/03/25)

35) America’s Magical Thinking on Ukraine and North Korea
Source: The American Conservative
by Ted Galen Carpenter

“U.S. officials continue to pursue some key foreign policy objectives that are utterly detached from reality. Such behavior perpetuates a trend that has characterized Washington’s behavior during much of the 20th century and into the 21st — and that has proved to be both embarrassing and counterproductive. Two egregious examples of such ‘magical’ thinking stand out: the belief that Ukraine can prevail militarily against Russia and the assumption that North Korea can be pressured to give up its nuclear weapons.” (11/03/25)

36) Nondelegation Without Chaos
Source: Law & Liberty
by John O McGinnis

“If one theme unites the Roberts Court’s work in administrative law, it is a counter-reformation that recenters the Constitution’s basic architecture for the administrative state. Congress is to legislate; the president and his subordinates are to execute within a hierarchical, accountable executive; and courts are to exercise independent judgment in interpreting the laws. That settlement, grounded in the Constitution’s Vesting Clauses, animates a series of linked doctrines returning power to the institutions to which the Court believes the Constitution originally entrusted it. The Roberts Court’s vision for the separation of powers points toward a stricter nondelegation doctrine. Delegation is Congress’s practice of permitting agencies to regulate conduct under broad authorizations that allow the executive substantial policy choice.” (11/03/25)

37) Trump fending off Chinese threat like he is reading Sun Tzu
Source: Fox News
by Daniel Hoffman

“During my final overseas CIA assignment as a station chief in a South Asian war zone, our team was ruthlessly focused on detecting and preempting terrorist threats long before they could inflict harm on the U.S. homeland. We conducted plenty of clandestine operations unilaterally, but we also worked in close partnership with the host government’s intelligence service. We did not always agree on everything, but we enjoyed a robust exchange of intelligence on our mutual adversaries, shared analytical judgments and collaborated on a number of joint tactical counterterrorism operations. On one occasion, our CIA team successfully found and fixed the location of a senior al Qaeda terrorist on the FBI Most Wanted list for having planned terrorist attacks. We shared our sensitive intelligence with the host government, whose military launched a well-planned raid and killed the al Qaeda terrorist during a firefight.” (11/03/25)

Source: Responsible Statecraft

“On September 30, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth summoned nearly 800 of America’s military generals, admirals, and senior enlisted officers to Quantico, Virginia on short notice. Though the unprecedented event was written off by many as a political stunt, a month later, it is clear the gathering was more important than many realized. Of particular note were the speeches delivered by Hegseth and President Donald Trump which offer the clearest articulation yet of how the Trump administration thinks about and hopes to use military power.” (11/03/25)

They apparently see the potential of the government taking much more of their money less a politician’s promise and more a revolutionary threat. 41) The Disgrace of an Ex-Governor: Andrew Cuomo of New York
Source: Common Dreams
by Jeffrey C Isaac

“The entire country will be watching as New Yorkers go to the polls tomorrow to elect the new mayor of the city. Zohran Mamdani, the Muslim-American democratic socialist whose meteoric rise to the top of the Democratic field has made him the front runner, is a dynamic, young, and progressive candidate who symbolizes both vigorous resistance to Trumpism and the possibility of meaningful social democratic policy innovation. He has campaigned brilliantly, and his victory would be all but assured were it not for the sour grapes, independent candidacy of the disgraced ex-Governor, Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo, long a self-serving bully willing to practice gutter politics in order to win at all costs, has waged a ruthless campaign, seeking to link Mamdani to 9-11 and Hamas and red-baiting him as a ‘far-left’ socialist who would destroy both the Democratic party and the city itself.” (11/03/25)

“Has Donald Trump’s sharp rebuke of Israel in his October 23 Time Magazine interview fundamentally changed the calculus in the Middle East? His comments immediately sparked two opposing views: for some, his position represents the clear demarcation of a genuine shift in US foreign policy; for others, it is nothing more than a political ploy designed to claw back credibility lost by the US during two years of Israeli genocide in Gaza.” (11/03/25)

44) Thoughts on oligarchy 2
Source: The Peaceful Revolutionist
by David S D’Amato

“Even the most eager defender of the state will have to admit that if it is distinguishable from a mafia, then the difference is not in the manifested behaviors, but in something that happens in the world of pure thought and imagination. That is to say that for anyone who, being in the physical world, did not share the spiritual belief in the validity of the gang’s power, there would still be no material difference. In the first place, some have no spiritual beliefs at all. How can they be made to submit to this? Many more do have spiritual beliefs, and typically their high officials, both clergy and laity, have given strength to the system of confusion and the spiritualization of what is a moment of physical violence.” (11/02/25)

45) The Democrats’ Man Problem
Source: Town Hall
by Kurt Schlichter

“It’s a challenge when you want to be a major political party and you can’t seem to avoid alienating about 90 percent of 50 percent of the population, but that’s the challenge the Democrats have accepted. People with penises who identify as men, I have some bad news for you. They don’t like you. Not at all. And their solution to this problem – and it’s a serious problem – is to try to convince you, in the least convincing possible way, that they dig you so you’ll shut up and vote as you’re told. But they do not dig you. Not at all. And they deeply resent that the brutal arithmetic of politics requires that they at least try to appeal to dudes who are not femboys, pinkos, pervs, or eunuchs dominated by their evil faux first wives.” (11/03/25)

46) The Shutdown Is Political Theater. Trump’s Attack on the Filibuster Is the Real Threat.
Source: Karl Dickey’s Freedom Vanguard
by Karl Dickey

“The 34-day government shutdown is less a crisis of governance than a clear demonstration of the federal state’s non-essential nature. The current political theater, however, shows neither of the two major political parties is serious about keeping government in check, and instead are all about power grabs and financially lining their own pockets—literally. Now, we have President Trump calling to ‘scrap the filibuster,’ and while this is often pitched to the sheepish public as a tool to end political stalemates, it has proven to be a strong procedural barrier to the expansion against the ‘tyranny of the majority.’” (11/02/25)

47) Nostalgia needs a reality check
Source: Washington Post
by Megan McArdle

“Nostalgia used to be something produced and consumed on an artisanal scale. You could rifle through the attic and stare at glassy-eyed daguerreotypes, or huddle around the fire on a winter evening and let grandpa tell you ‘bout the fine, hardworking folks he fought with at the Second Battle of Bull Run. … Today nostalgia is mass-produced, and I fear it is getting out of hand. I follow five Facebook pages devoted to mid-century kitsch, a few more dedicated to vintage appliances and influencers who specialize in old recipes or costumes. I heartily urge this pleasant pastime upon all my readers. But I also urge you to remember that these delightful snapshots of history are not the whole thing. The inability to put history into perspective is not just deforming our perception of the past; it is deforming our politics.” (11/02/25)

48) Pushing free speech — where?
Source: The Price of Liberty
by Nathan Barton

“An appeals court has reversed a lower court ruling that a Wisconsin mother defamed a teacher of her children, and the school district, in a social media post in 2022. Calling her ‘Woke’ and sarcastically a ‘White savior’ because of what was being taught and noting that the teacher was also the school’s DEI coordinator was just an opinion and vague enough to not merit a charge of defamation. Scarlett Johnson, the mom, said the lawsuit was intended to intimidate her and others, especially members of the Wisconsin chapter of Moms for Liberty. We would tend to agree, given that it has taken three years to get to this point. … It is not just government-run schools and DEI advocates and the like who try to intimidate and even punish people for speaking out.” (11/02/25)

49) Virginia Governor’s Race Is Major Test for Democrats
Source: The American Prospect
by Gabrielle Gurley

“Throughout the course of Virginia’s only gubernatorial debate, Abigail Spanberger fixed her eyes on the middle distance as Winsome Earle-Sears unleashed a relentless barrage of interruptions. Spanberger, a former Democratic member of Congress and CIA operations officer, and Earle-Sears, the Republican lieutenant governor, descended into a series of bizarre scenes so often that viewers were probably wondering what they’d stumbled into. It had everything: exasperated moderators, rapid-fire questions on the government shutdown, the state’s controversial car tax, and more, followed by answers that had to clock in at 60 seconds. Earle-Sears even managed to insert herself into Spanberger’s closing remarks. If Saturday Night Live writers want to turn it into a skit, as they did with Sarah Palin in 2008, they won’t have to do much.” [editor’s note: Fearful for NJ if this witch ascends to the throne – SAT] (11/03/25)

50) A Samhain Message to an Embattled Trans Youth
Source: exile in happy valley
by Nicky Reid

“Thousands of years ago, on the sacred rock from which my ancestors fled, this season of the year was celebrated as Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the summer harvest and the beginning of the darker months of the year. This was also a time of sacred upheaval and spiritual transformation, when the veil between the material world and the spirit world was thin, allowing lost spirits to return to earth and the normal roles of society to be inverted. At twilight, the craggy hills of the moors were alive with the glow of massive bonfires set by peasants embracing the darkness in drag. Eventually, this became what is now known as Halloween and it is really little wonder considering those roots that what became known as Halloween became less commonly known among my people as ‘Queer Christmas.'” (11/02/25)
