1)  NYC: Adams drops out of mayoral race
Source: The Guardian [UK]

“The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, announced on Sunday that he is abandoning his faltering bid to win re-election, just over a month before election day, delivering the message in a social media video set to the strains of My Way. Adams, who was trailing in the polls, was elected as a Democrat but ran for re-election as an independent after he was indicted on federal corruption charges, which were then dropped by the Trump administration in exchange for his cooperation on immigration raids. … The withdrawal of Adams narrows the race to lead the country’s largest city to a three-way contest between the Democratic nominee, Zohran Mamdani; the former governor, Andrew Cuomo; and the Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa.” (09/28/25)

2)  Wanted war crimes fugitive to meet with senile reality TV star over Gaza genocide
Source: Boston Herald

“On the eve of meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel is working on a new ceasefire plan with the White House, but details are still being sorted out. Netanyahu has come under heavy international pressure to end the war, especially during the ongoing offensive in Gaza City. The death toll in the Israel-Hamas war has topped 66,000 Palestinians, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Sunday. In Monday’s White House meeting, Trump is expected to share a new proposal for ending the conflict.” (09/28/25)

3)  OR: State, Portland regimes sue Trump in bid to stop federal occupation
Source: Axios

“Oregon and Portland are suing President Trump in an effort to block his move to deploy National Guard troops to the state’s largest city. The lawsuit that was filed on Sunday noted that following Trump’s directive, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had signed a memorandum ‘calling 200 members of the Oregon National Guard into federal service for a period of 60 days’ — which the suit called ‘patently unlawful.’ Trump authorized troops in Portland on Saturday in an effort to quash protests at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) [gang lair] in the Democrat-led city that began in early June, saying they could use ‘Full Force’ if necessary.” (09/29/25)

4)  Ukraine war: Russian forces target Kyiv with drone, missile barrage
Source: The Hill

“Russia targeted Ukraine in a massive drone and missile attack on Sunday, killing at least four people in Kyiv and wounding dozens more days after President Trump said Ukraine could win the war against Moscow. The overnight attack lasted more than 12 hours and primarily targeted Kyiv and the nearby region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on the social platform X. Zelensky said other regions struck included Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Odesa.” (09/27/25)

5)  Trump regime asks SCOTUS to uphold his claim to have unilaterally repealed 14th Amendment
Source: BBC News [UK State Media]

“The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to uphold its executive order [pretending to end] birthright citizenship in the US. US President Donald Trump signed the order, which [pretends the president can veto the citizenship of] children of migrants who are either in the US illegally [sic] or on temporary visas, on his first day back in office in January. The order has been blocked from taking effect by lower court judges after a series of lawsuits which [noted] it was unconstitutional.” (09/28/25)

6)  Bitcoin Trails Equities, Metals, and USD in Q3
Source: CoinDesk

“Bitcoin just ended what is historically the largest cryptocurrency’s third-worst week of the year with a greater-than-average drop of 5%. Week 38 effectively closes out the third quarter, which is up about 1%, as well as September, which has managed to hold flat. … On Friday, more than $17 billion in options expired, with the max pain price — the strike price at which option holders lose the most money and options writers profit the most — sitting at $110,000, which acted as a gravitational center for the spot price. … The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries bounced off the 4% support, and is now trading near 4.2%. The dollar index (DXY) continues to hover around long-term support at 98. Meanwhile, metals are leading the action, with silver at around $45 approaching an all-time high at levels last seen in 1980 and 2011. U.S. equities, in the meantime, are just shy of their records.” (09/27/25)

7)  Germany: Tens of thousands protest Gaza genocide
Source: euronews [EU]

“Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of Berlin, the German capital, on Saturday in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, calling for an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict in the war-devastated enclave. Demonstrators shouted slogans like ‘free, free Palestine,’ and demanded an end to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Some 50,000 people took part in the march through Berlin’s downtown area, according to police. About 1,800 law enforcement officers were deployed to monitor the demonstrators. The protesters also called for a halt to German arms exports to Israel and demanded European Union sanctions against Israel, German news agency dpa reported.” (09/27/25)

8)  Florida coast to feel effects from depression forecast to become Tropical Storm Imelda
Source: Orlando Sentinel

“A tropical depression forecast to become Tropical Storm Imelda on Sunday will bring deteriorating conditions along Florida’s coast as the system moves over the Bahamas, according to the National Hurricane Center. A tropical storm watch remains in effect along Florida’s east coast from the Palm Beach/Martin county line north to the Flagler/Volusia county line. … Outer bands from the system are expected to strafe the Florida coast and the Atlantic waters offshore are under a tropical storm warning, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. … Coastal flooding could also be a concern into mid-week with wave runups to the dunes and sea walls over multiple high tide cycles that could lead to beach erosion.” (09/28/25)

9)  US DOT Pulls Trail and Bike Grants It Deems “Hostile” to Cars
Source: US News & World Report

“President Donald Trump’s transportation department has been pulling back grants already announced for recreational trails and bicycle lanes, telling local officials their projects fail to promote road capacity or are ‘hostile to motor vehicles.’ The department recently sent letters to local governments in at least six states — Alabama, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts and New Mexico — informing them it was withdrawing money awarded under the $1.1 trillion infrastructure law former President Joe Biden signed in 2021. The reversals are among the clearest signals yet of the drastic shift from the Biden administration’s emphasis on alternative transportation, such as transit and biking, to the Trump administration’s focus on preserving and expanding lanes for cars and trucks.” (09/26/25)

10) UN Reinstates Sanctions on Iran After European Regimes Refuse to Uphold Their End of Nuclear Deal
Source: Mint [India]

“The United Nations will reimpose broad sanctions on Iran after days of frantic diplomacy in New York failed to ease a standoff over Tehran’s nuclear program. The vote wasn’t a surprise given opposition from the US and western allies to any extension of sanctions relief. Last month, France, Germany and the UK had set in motion what’s known as sanctions ‘snapback,’ citing Tehran’s limited cooperation with the IAEA and broader nonproliferation negotiations. … Iran has for years denied its nuclear program is for military purposes and both IAEA inspectors and US intelligence communities have confirmed the absence of a weapons program in the country since the early 2000s.” (09/27/25)

11) Local TV Giants End Jimmy Kimmel Boycott
Source: New York Times

“Sinclair and Nexstar, the two large local TV owners that dropped ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ after the late-night comedian’s remarks about the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, are resuming the program after negotiations with ABC, ending a highly unusual boycott that became a flashpoint for free speech in the United States. The companies, which own scores of TV stations across the United States, had been pre-empting the show since its return on Tuesday, blacking out the program for millions of Americans. Both announced their decision in statements on Friday.” (09/26/25)

12) SCOTUS sides with Trump on freezing $4 billion in foreign aid
Source: Al Jazeera [Qatari state media]

“The United States Supreme Court has again sided with President Donald Trump in allowing him to freeze $4bn in foreign aid from being disbursed. The ruling on Friday, which reverses a lower court’s order, is the latest victory for the Trump administration in its effort to overhaul the money the US provides to humanitarian and other efforts abroad. It is also the latest example of the conservative-dominated top US court granting a broad interpretation of presidential power. The aid in question had already been approved by Congress, but its authorisation was set to expire by September 30. Trump moved to freeze the aid in a process known as a ‘pocket rescission,’ essentially running out the clock on it being spent.” (09/26/25)

13) Argentines demand justice at protest against brutal killings of young women
Source: BBC News [UK State Media]

“Thousands of people have taken part in an anti-femicide protest in Buenos Aires, demanding justice for a girl and two young women who were tortured and murdered in a crime that has shocked Argentina. The brutal killings of 15-year-old Lara Gutierrez, and Morena Verdi and Brenda del Castillo, who were both 20, were livestreamed on social media. Police believe a drug-trafficking gang was responsible, and that the crime was broadcast as a warning to others. They had arrested five suspects … but a 20-year-old Peruvian man they say is the group’s leader remains at large. The victims were lured into a van believing they were headed for a party on 19 September, according to investigators. But authorities said this was part of a plan to ‘punish’ the girl and young women for violating gang code, serving as a warning to others.” (09/28/25)

The schedules make reference to Musk possibly flying to an ‘island’ in 2014, and Thiel and Bannon apparently dining with Epstein as recently as 2017 and 2019, respectively. … Spokespeople for Musk, Thiel and Bannon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. … The schedules come from a third tranche of documents turned over to the panel in response to its subpoena of the Epstein Estate in August.” (09/26/25)

15) UK: Starmer hopes vision of “renewal” can silence doubts about his leadership
Source: SFGate

“Keir Starmer never had much of a political honeymoon. Now some members of his political party are considering divorce. Little more than a year after winning power in a landslide, Britain’s prime minister is fighting to keep the support of his party, and to fend off Nigel Farage, whose hard-right Reform UK has a consistent lead in opinion polls. The next election is as much as four years away, but as thousands of Labour Party members gather Sunday for their annual conference beside the River Mersey in Liverpool, lawmakers are growing anxious. A potential leadership rival has emerged in Andy Burhnam, the ambitious mayor of Manchester. Tim Bale, professor of politics at Queen Mary University of London, said the party’s mood is ‘febrile.'” (09/27/25)

16) UN delegates stage mass walkout during accused war criminal’s speech, leaving room nearly empty
Source: KFOX 14 News

“Dozens upon dozens of United Nation delegates orchestrated a walk out before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech on Friday morning. Netanyahu gave his address to a nearly empty room. Delegates from the United States and the United Kingdom were confirmed to have stayed for for Netanyahu’s address. However, neither nation had sent their ambassador to the United Nations to see Netanyahu’s address; instead, the seats were filled by lower-level diplomats, the Associated Press reported. … Meanwhile on Thursday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas gave a virtual address to the United Nations which was met with rounds of applause and a full room. He was unable to attend the United Nations General Assembly in person because United States officials denied his visa, citing Abbas’ support of terrorism.” (09/26/25)

The termination letter cited alleged ‘lack of judgement’ in their actions, according to a source cited by CBS News, the BBC’s US partner. Between 15 to 20 agents have reportedly been sacked. The agents reportedly took the knee alongside others during a demonstration in 2020. Floyd, a black man, had been [murdered] by a police officer who knelt on his neck in May that year, sparking global outcry. 18) Slovakia: Parliament amends constitution to include gender ideology, ban adoption and surrogacy
Source: Politico

“Slovakia’s parliament amended its constitution Friday to state that all citizens are either male or female, limit adoption to married heterosexual couples and ban surrogacy. Several human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the Venice Commission, have raised concerns — particularly over an article in the amendment that grants Slovakia’s national law precedence over EU law in ‘cultural and ethical matters.’ … Since Fico returned to power in October 2023, Slovakia has cracked down on independent media and judiciary, along with LGBTQ+ and artists’ rights, following an ‘illiberal’ playbook sketched out by Hungary.” (09/26/25)

19) US national park visitor spending increases
Source: SFGate

“A report released by the National Park Service on Thursday shows that visitor spending at national parks increased by nearly 10% between 2023 and 2024, partly due to an increase in visitation that comes at an especially precarious time for the park system. Visitors at national parks spent an estimated $29 billion in local gateway regions in 2024, the report states. The highest percentage of that money – 38.29%, or $11.1 billion – was spent at hotels. Restaurants received $5.7 billion in visitor spending, and visitors spent $2.6 billion on recreation industries. The total national economic output of visitor spending at national parks was $56.3 billion, according to the report. In California, visitors spent the most money – $1.8 billion – at the Bay Area’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which saw the second-highest spending figure in the country after Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina.” (09/27/25)

20) Atlanta forfeits $37.5 million in airport funds after refusing to agree to Trump’s DEI ban
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

“Atlanta’s airport has forfeited at least $37.5 million because city leaders have refused to disavow diversity, equity and inclusion programs as mandated by President Donald Trump’s administration. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic, declined on July 29 to agree to terms set out by the Federal Aviation Administration. Those terms certify that the airport doesn’t ‘operate any programs promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that violate any applicable Federal anti-discrimination laws.’ That language mirrors a January executive order signed by Trump banning DEI programs operated by anyone doing business with or receiving money from the federal government.” (09/26/25)

Source: Garrison Center
by Thomas L Knapp

“It seems like Comey’s tenure was mostly lies. So pardon me if I decline to break out even the world’s smallest violin for his current legal problems. On the other hand, it’s also true that this prosecution has nothing whatsoever to do with the alleged lie in question. It’s partly about Donald Trump’s desire to ‘get’ Comey for having proven insufficiently loyal to Donald Trump. It’s mostly about Trump’s need for distractions from his close personal relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.” (09/28/25)

22) “Surveillance Pricing” Is Just Pricing
Source: The Daily Economy
by Paul Schwennesen

“National Public Radio recently aired a segment on the evils of ‘Surveillance Pricing’— the practice of employing customer data and AI to tailor prices for individual consumers. The coverage, predictably, is overwhelmingly negative: an interviewee warned that it would let corporations prey on people’s vulnerabilities, as the Federal Trade Commission frets about ‘privacy, competition, and consumer protection.’ … In truth, this is simply a scary name for something we already know: dynamic pricing. Airlines, ride-share companies, hotels, and supermarkets have been doing it for years. Arguably, it has been done since time immemorial: I have little doubt that Arab traders offered ‘special’ prices for visiting Englishmen to Jumma Bazaars — and I know this because they still do, from Kuwait to Karachi. … The fact that dynamic pricing exists is a net win to all of us.” (09/26/25)

“One of the most awesome powers of the modern state is its ability to imprison people who have violated the law. This is why the Founding Fathers were so obsessed with procedures and principles meant to protect citizens from arbitrary arrest. As they recognized, no liberty worth its name is possible when a head of government, even one elected by popular vote, can direct the machinery of the state to punish those who have displeased him. And yet, that is precisely what Donald Trump is attempting to do in the case of James Comey.” (09/27/25)

24) Hysteria Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning
Source: Brownstone Institute
by Thomas Harrington

“Sadly, for most people today, World War I, or what some older Brits still refer to as the Great War, doesn’t mean too much. This is too bad, as it is perhaps the best mirror we have on the behavior of people and countries during the Covid era. For those who have forgotten, WWI occurred at a time when technological advances enabled a sudden quantum leap in man’s ability to slaughter his fellow man. And armed with these new killing powers, people proceeded to go out and do precisely that in absolutely staggering numbers, and on the most flimsy of nationalist pretexts. But, believe it or not, this heretofore unthinkable level of calculated murder is not even the most instructive element of this history for us today. Rather, it is the fact that, at the time, most people not only bought into these flimsy pretexts, but that they did so with an astonishingly high degree of zeal and enthusiasm.” (09/27/25)

26) Democrats’ Hopeless Budget Situation
Source: Real Clear Politics
by Larry Kudlow

“Elon Musk is going to rejoice next week when President Trump’s budget director, Russ Vought, unleashes his secret shutdown weapon. A former House speaker, Newt Gingrich, talked about it last night: ‘Look, I think that the Democrats are in a hopeless situation. And I’ve been looking at people like Congresswoman Spanberger, who’s running for governor in Virginia. How can she vote against keeping the government open when it is her constituents in Northern Virginia who are going to bear the brunt of any government shutdown?’ What’s Mr. Vought’s secret weapon? He is ordering all government agencies to identify all programs that would lapse in a shutdown or don’t meet up with Mr. Trump’s policies. As Kim Strassel writes in the Wall Street Journal, usually shutdowns mean federal employees are furloughed — and then they get hired back.” (09/26/25)

27) Digital ID is a disaster in the making
Source: spiked
by Tim Black

“As the old saw goes, to the man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. To the Labour technocrat, there is no problem that can’t be solved with a national ID-card scheme. So it is that UK prime minister Keir Starmer has landed on that most New Labourite of policies. The PM announced this week that digital ID cards – to be known in true Blair-era fashion as ‘BritCards’ – will help solve the problem of illegal immigration. … There is absolutely no reason to believe the state can collate private data currently scattered across disparate systems and governmental departments and not screw it up. But even if the state were capable of creating an effective digital-ID scheme, that wouldn’t make a good idea.” (09/27/25)

“It’s so crazy that we’re two years into a genocide and we’re still being hammered by propagandists pretending to believe that the world has just spontaneously started hating Israel for no reason in some inexplicable explosion of Jew-hatred. ‘U.S. registers most outbreaks of global antisemitism in August,’ reads a recent headline from Fox News. ‘Report: Antisemitism Hits Post-Holocaust High,’ blares a headline from Newsmax. ‘Gen Z’s casual antisemitism is growing — seeded by influencers like Tucker Carlson,’ says a headline from The New York Post. Source: Fox News Forum
by Tim Graham

“ABC announced that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was ‘indefinitely’ suspended after he callously milked Charlie Kirk’s murder by claiming President Donald Trump fans were desperate to avoid the ‘fact’ that Kirk’s shooter was a Trump fan. That lie was transformed by broadcast newscasts into a glorious free-speech case. When ABC announced that the ‘indefinite’ suspension was only going to last four nights, the networks rallied. On Tuesday, ABC anchor David Muir touted the company line: ‘Disney says the decision comes after thoughtful conversations with Kimmel.’ That’s funny. ‘Thoughtful’ isn’t usually the first adjective to describe Kimmel’s Trump-trashing monologues.” (09/26/25)

32) Resist Them: Samuel Adams and the Forgotten Duty of a Free People
Source: Tenth Amendment Center
by Michael Boldin

“‘Resist them.’ Nearly five years before the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams demanded that the people resist arbitrary power, warning them that the alternative was to tamely submit, sit idly by, and hope for the best – a recipe for total tyranny. For Adams, this wasn’t politics; it was a test of backbone and fortitude. It was the moral virtue of doing what’s right, even when facing down the most powerful government on Earth. Today, that demand is completely ignored. But the principle behind it is timeless: a people that won’t defend their liberty is a people that won’t have it for long.” (09/27/25)

33) Children in Crosshairs of Attack [sic] on Public Education
Source: Common Dreams
by Andrew Kordik

“After surviving a contentious US Senate confirmation hearing, Linda McMahon, the former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO turned secretary of education, received a profound first directive from President Donald Trump: ‘Put yourself out of a job.’ Like other appointees, Mrs. McMahon has done exactly as ordered by a president who accepts nothing less. As Secretary, McMahon has championed Trump’s executive order dismantling her department and delivering its K-12 responsibilities to state and local governments. She has fired 1,315 department employees, targeting jobs in the Office for Civil Rights and the Institute of Education Sciences, groups that investigate civil rights complaints in schools and provide advice on best practices in teaching. As a result, the department’s staff has been nearly halved since January.” (09/27/25)

34) Restoring Sanity and Humanity to the Immigration System Requires Putting Enforcement Under Article I Congressional Courts
Source: The UnPopulist
by Margaret Stock

“The United States immigration court system, currently housed within the Department of Justice, was originally intended to serve as a neutral forum for adjudicating immigration cases. For years, critics have argued that its structural placement under the executive branch has compromised its impartiality, turning it into a mechanism of immigration enforcement rather than a fair judicial body. Under the second administration of President Donald Trump, these critics have proven to be prescient.” (09/27/25)

35) DoD cracks down on free speech, at our peril
Source: Orange County Register
by Larry Wilson

“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered hundreds of top American generals and admirals who work around the globe to a meeting next week at a Virginia Marine Corps base in Virginia without saying the subject of the Big Brass get-together. Oops — that news doesn’t come from an official Pentagon press release. It’s a scoop that reporters got on Thursday, citing four United States government officials who requested anonymity. And here I am, spreading the news. And I’m repeating it just days after a bonkers, insidious, illegal demand from the Defense Department that Pentagon reporters sign a ‘pledge’ not to publish sensitive information, even if it is not classified, unless it’s been ‘approved’ by official press officers at the DoD, on threat of losing their press passes.” (09/27/25)

36) Amy Coney Barrett’s brand of originalism irritates some people. Good.
Source: Washington Post
by George F Will

“Although Barrett is preternaturally nice, she irritates some people. The reason she does makes her an exemplary justice. It is her fastidious acknowledgment that certainty and precision are often elusive when construing, as an originalist, the Constitution’s text (‘due’ process, ‘unreasonable’ searches, ‘cruel and unusual’ punishments, etc.) in modern contexts. Awareness of uncertainties justifies judicious restraint: The duty to construe texts does not empower judges to try to discover — or guess — the purposes or intentions of those who wrote the words.” (09/26/25)

37) The James “Cardinal” Comey I knew at the FBI fully deserves whatever comeuppance is in store
Source: New York Post
by James A Gagliano

“The Justice Department’s announcement that former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making a false statement and obstruction of a congressional proceeding is all but a fait accompli. Pious, sanctimonious self-righteousness and hypocritical moralizing had long ago cost him his professional reputation. With charges of perjury and obstruction, Comey could face imprisonment. More tragically, the narcissistic leader, who was relieved of his duties by President Donald Trump soon into his first term, will continue to damage the agency I love and served for a quarter of a century. And that makes me — and many others in my ranks — weary, saddened and angry. Based on my own observations and those of my colleagues at the bureau, it was clear from the start that Comey was hellbent on altering FBI culture.” (09/26/25)

38) The Chatham House Rule and the long bipartisan war on the truth
Source: The Peaceful Revolutionist
by David S D’Amato

“To understand where we are today, it is necessary to see that even before the absurd Donald Trump era of American politics, we were in a period of intensified crackdowns on leaks and off-the-record communications; a closer look reveals a deep, bipartisan trajectory toward authoritarian tendencies in how the political and economic ruling class manages dissent and prevents transparency and public accountability. The ‘progressive’ Obama team’s record-setting surge in leak investigations and prosecutions is an example of how leak control has become institutionalized over the past decade, in a culture of surveillance and fear that is persisting and intensifying under the current administration.” (09/26/25)

39) “Good Luck To All!”
Source: The Dispatch
by Kevin D Williamson

“Back when Trump was just a Page Six grotesque and social climber, Spy magazine famously described him as a ‘short-fingered vulgarian.’ It turns out that his fingers aren’t the problem, but his short little attention span — not his grip, but his grip on the issues and, from time to time, on reality. … Not long ago, he was sure that Ukraine couldn’t win — he also claimed that Ukraine had started the war—and that the Ukrainians needed to get to a negotiated settlement as soon as possible. Now he says he thinks the Ukrainians may be able to take back all of the territory occupied (and annexed in some cases) by Russia, a proposition that is, unhappily, at least as implausible as any other dumb thing that has come out of Trump’s mouth.” (09/26/25)

40) Canada Should Offer to Drop Its Terrible Agricultural Restrictions in Return for US Tariff Reductions
Source: Reason
by JD Tuccille

“President Donald Trump justifies his enthusiasm for prohibitively high tariffs by insisting the U.S. is being ‘ripped off’ by other countries. It’s a strange argument, since people only trade with one another if they see benefit in the deal. But the president is right to complain that other governments impose trade barriers of their own that are often every bit as burdensome as the high taxes Americans pay on imports. If foreign officials honestly wish to restore something like free trade, they should emphasize dropping their own barriers in return for lower U.S. levies. Case in point: Canada, which sends three-quarters of its exports across its southern border but imposes damaging restrictions on imports.” (09/26/25)

41) Justice Department Turmoil Bubbles Up to the Surface
Source: The American Prospect
by David Dayen

“In 2006, George W. Bush fired seven of his U.S. attorneys, primarily because they refused to prosecute bogus voter fraud cases (or they were not ‘loyal Bushies,’ as one administration official put it). Bush replaced them with Republicans deemed more loyal. What resulted was a popular outcry, a protracted investigation and hearings in Congress, and the eventual resignation of the sitting attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, along with eight other top officials. In 2025, Donald Trump fired a U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik Siebert, because he refused to prosecute two of his political enemies, former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. He installed Lindsey Halligan, an insurance lawyer with no prosecutorial experience, who was also on his personal legal team, to get the job done.” (09/267/25)

“The Federalist remains one of the most influential books ever written about our country because no other single text better or more clearly expresses the mind of the American Founders. Cited in everything from Supreme Court decisions to Broadway musicals, this collection of eighty-five papers by the pseudonymous Publius still has considerable sway over our national imagination. Something about this book keeps Americans coming back to it in search of self-knowledge. Still, reading these documents cannot help but inspire an aching sense of loss.” (09/26/25)

43) “Animal Farm” Never Gets Old
Source: The Bulwark
by Cathy Young

“Orwell’s novel ends with a development that, at the time, had no parallels in Soviet reality: The pigs adopt human ways, from sleeping in beds to drinking alcohol and finally wearing clothes and walking upright. … Orwell, a democratic socialist, thus seems to be envisioning a scenario in which the Soviet regime evolves into a state capitalist oligarchy and drops its Communist trappings. That never came true — or did it? Not quite in the way it happens in Animal Farm; but, after the fall of the Soviet Union and a brief democratic interlude, that’s pretty much where things have ended up.” (09/26/25)

45) Before It’s Too Late, Democrats Need to Stand Up to Their Radicals
Source: Town Hall
by Derek Hunter

“In June of 2017 I wrote, ‘I’m old enough to remember when ‘violent rhetoric’ was the root of all our problems, and crosshairs on a website no one ever saw was the reason for mass murder.’ It was in a piece entitled, ‘The Left Won’t Rest Until Someone Gets Killed.’ I wrote about how Democrats ‘are stoking fears to the point that even the casual observer is left with the impression they’re hoping someone ‘corrects’ that accident. How else can one interpret the left’s continual equating of the president to Adolf Hitler?’ … I’m no soothsayer – if I had the ability to see into the future I would have won the lottery multiple times by now – but it doesn’t take someone clairvoyant to see that the road Democrats have been marching down for years was going to end in death and destruction. Well, here we are, and it has only just begun.” (09/28/25)

“Trump fibbed when he signed his first executive order in January, the one that promised never to repeat the Biden-era barriers to free speech. Everyone knows this by now. 49) “Even When They Gas Us”: Hundreds Brave Tear Gas, Pepper Balls to Protest ICE
Source: In These Times
by Sarah Lazare

“After the tear gas dispersed just enough to breathe, and street medics had flushed several people’s eyes with water, the hundreds protesting in Broadview on Friday morning — like they have regularly for weeks — did not go home and came back together in the street that runs perpendicular to the ICE detention center. They held signs high above their heads reading ’Migration Is Sacred’ and ‘Protect Our Neighbors.’ Some had red, puffy eyes. Others were coughing. But the crowd was determined, even defiant, and dozens started chanting and repeating: ‘I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win!’ It was a remarkable sentiment for the group who gathered early in the morning September 26 to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the agents who have detained hundreds of people in Chicagoland since the September 8 rollout of ’Operation Midway Blitz.'” (09/26/25)

50) The Russian Air Incursions Are a Warning to Europe
Source: The American Conservative
by Anatol Lieven

“The Russian fighters that briefly entered Estonian airspace last Friday and the drones that flew into Polish and Romanian airspace earlier are very unlikely to have been an accident, but they were not an ‘attack.’ The drones were unarmed decoys, nobody was hurt, and the only damage was done when one was shot down by Polish air defenses. They may have been intended as a test of those defenses; they were almost certainly intended as a warning — a warning above all against British and European plans to deploy a ‘reassurance force’ to Ukraine after a peace settlement. This has been repeatedly and categorically rejected by the Russian government, but continues to be urged by some European governments with a blind determination that suggests that, rather than making a contribution to peace, they are actually interested in blocking any viable peace settlement.” (09/26/25)
