1)  Trump announces more tax hikes on American consumers
Source: The Hill

“President Trump on Thursday announced a slew of product-specific tariffs [on American consumers] set to take effect on Oct. 1, including duties on [American buyers of] any pharmaceuticals whose manufacturers don’t have plants in the U.S. The tariffs, which are on top of sweeping reciprocal duties Trump has imposed on [American buyers of goods from] countries worldwide, are likely to spur criticism, particularly when it comes to pharmaceutical imports. Experts have raised concerns that those tariffs could cause supply chain issues and make certain drugs more difficult and expensive to acquire. … Trump separately announced the administration would impose a 50 percent tariff on [American buyers of] all kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and associated products starting on Oct. 1, as well as a 30 percent tariff on upholstered furniture. … The president also said there would be a 25 percent tariff beginning Oct. 1 on [American buyers of] ‘Heavy (Big!) Trucks’ made outside the United States.” (09/25/25)

2)  Russia: Regime bans fuel exports until end of year after Ukrainian drone attacks on refineries
Source: Hindustan Times [India]

“Russia on Thursday introduced a partial ban on diesel exports and extended an existing ban on gasoline exports until the end of the year after a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on its refineries. Ukraine’s drone attacks have drastically brought down Russian oil refining, which fell by almost a fifth on certain days. It also cut fuel exports from key ports, Reuters reported. Russia’s deputy prime minister Alexander Novak announced the decision and said there was a small deficit of oil products. However, he said that oil stockpiles were covering the shortfall. … The fuel shortage across Russia is reportedly widening. According to a local newspaper, the country’s No.2 oil producer, Lukoil, had banned the sale of gasoline in jerry cans at certain filling stations in Moscow.” (09/26/25)

3)  Grand Jury Indicts Comey
Source: New York Times

“A federal grand jury in Virginia has indicted James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, a culmination of President Trump’s relentless effort to exact retribution for investigating his 2016 presidential campaign over possible ties to Russia, according to people familiar with the decision. While the charges have yet to be unsealed, the people familiar with the decision said the grand jury had indicted Mr. Comey on Thursday on one count of making a false statement and one count of obstruction. The move came after Mr. Trump intensified his pressure campaign on the Justice Department in recent days, publicly demanding that top officials prosecute Mr. Comey and Letitia James, the New York attorney general who sued Mr. Trump for inflating the value of his assets while out of office.” (09/25/25)

4)  Trump signs executive order to transfer TikTok to US cronies
Source: The Guardian [UK]

“Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday outlining the terms of a deal to transfer TikTok to a US owner. Trump said he and China’s president Xi Jinping had come to an agreement to allow TikTok to continue operating in the US, separating the social media platform from its Chinese owner ByteDance. Trump said the deal complies with a law that would have forced the shutdown of the app for American users had it not been divested and sold to a US owner. … Under the plan, US investors will take over the majority of TikTok’s operations and take charge of a licensed copy of the app’s powerful recommendation algorithm. American companies are expected to own about 80% of the US version of the spun off company, while ByteDance and Chinese investors will own less than 20%.” (09/25/25)

5)  European broadcasters to vote on expelling Israel from Eurovision 2026
Source: The Guardian [UK]

“The European Broadcasting Union has confirmed it will hold an online vote in November that could see the Israeli broadcaster Kan expelled from next year’s Eurovision song contest. In a letter sent to participating broadcasters on Thursday, the EBU president, Delphine Ernotte Cunci, wrote there was an ‘unprecedented diversity of views’ on Israel’s participation in Eurovision, and the issue required ‘a broader democratic basis.’ … The decision comes after several European broadcasters, including those from Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia, threatened to boycott the next edition of the world’s largest live music event if Israel was allowed to take part.” (09/25/25)

6)  Kraft agrees to sell New England Patriots minority stake in deal that values team at $9 billion
Source: CNBC

“Robert Kraft, who paid $172 million for the New England Patriots in 1994, has agreed to sell 8% of the NFL team to two groups in a deal that values the franchise at $9 billion, according to two sources who have first-hand knowledge of the deal but are not authorized to speak about it publicly. The money the team will get from selling the 8% stake is going to stay on the Patriots’ balance sheet, according to one person close to the situation, meaning the post-money valuation of the Patriots is greater than $9 billion. The sale does not include the New England Revolution, the Major League Soccer team also owned by the Kraft family, according to one source close to the deal.” (09/25/25)

7)  Daredevil becomes first climber to ski down Everest without extra oxygen after 16 hours in peak’s “death zone,” team says
Source: CBS News

“Poland’s Andrzej Bargiel has become the first climber to ski down the world’s highest mountain without supplemental oxygen, his team and expedition organizer said Thursday. Bargiel glided down Mount Everest’s snowy slopes after reaching the summit of the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) mountain on Monday. … Everest has seen a handful of ski descents but never a continuous downhill without additional oxygen. In 2000, Slovenian Davorin Karnicar made the first full ski descent from Everest’s summit to base camp using bottled oxygen. Chhang Dawa Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks, which organized the latest expedition, said Bargiel skied down to Camp 2, spent a night and then reached the base camp on skis the next day.” (09/25/25)

8)  Denmark: Regime says “professional actor” behind drone incursions over its airports
Source: BBC News [UK]

“Denmark says drones flown over its airports appear to be the work of a ‘professional actor’ but there was no evidence of Russian involvement, after such activity disrupted its airspace for the second time in a week. Aalborg airport was forced to shut down for several hours on Wednesday evening after green lights were spotted overhead, while Billund airport also briefly closed. Three smaller airports also reported drone activity. On Monday, Copenhagen airport temporarily closed due to a drone incursion. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told a news conference that the ‘hybrid attack’ was part of a ‘systematic operation,’ but said the devices had been launched locally. … Suspicious drones have also been sighted over Germany and Sweden. All are suspected — but not proven — to be part of Russia’s indirect aggression towards Nato states supporting Ukraine.” (09/25/25)

9)  AZ: Jury convicts man on eight murder charges for metro Phoenix shootings in 2017
Source: Victoria Times Colonist [Canada]

“An Arizona jury convicted a man Thursday on eight murder charges for carrying out a string of shootings in metro Phoenix over a three-week span in 2017. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Cleophus Cooksey Jr. The victims in Phoenix and nearby Glendale included Cooksey’s mother and stepfather, a security guard walking to his girlfriend’s apartment and a woman whose body was found in an alley after she was sexually assaulted. Cooksey, described by police as an aspiring musician, knew some of the victims but wasn’t acquainted with others, authorities said. He has said the allegations against him were false. The first of the eight killings occurred four months after Cooksey was released from prison on a manslaughter conviction for his participation in a 2001 strip club robbery in which an accomplice was fatally shot.” (09/25/25)

10) Amazon to pay $1 billion bribe, $1.5 billion restitution, in Prime deception case
Source: Reuters

“Amazon.com will pay $2.5 billion in [bribes] and redress to Prime subscribers to settle the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s case alleging the retail juggernaut signed users up for the subscription without their consent and made it difficult to cancel, the FTC said on Thursday. Of that, $1.5 billion will go into a fund to repay eligible Prime subscribers and Amazon will not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement, the FTC said. … At a trial in Seattle federal court, the FTC accused Amazon of duping tens of millions of Prime customers by signing them up without consent and locking them in with overly complex cancellation methods. The FTC started probing Amazon’s subscription practices during President Donald Trump’s first term and the case was filed during Joe Biden’s presidency.” (09/25/25)

11) Vatican prosecutors suffer embarrassing loss as tribunal says their appeal is inadmissible
Source: Associated Press

“A Vatican appeals tribunal put an end to prosecutors’ efforts to salvage their claims of massive fraud in the Holy See’s ‘Trial of the Century,’ in which a once-powerful cardinal and nine others were accused of fleecing tens of millions of euros from the church before being acquitted on many charges. The tribunal declared inadmissable the prosecutor’s requests to overturn acquittals on dozens of charges, saying they had failed to provide specific reasons for their appeal within the right timeframe. The court agreed with the defense that prosecutors had cut and pasted the same arguments they used in lower courts to argue for convictions on appeal. … The trial court convicted [the defendants] on some charges, while largely rejecting prosecutors’ overarching thesis of a grand plot to defraud the Holy See and acquitting the defendants of many of the dozens of charges against them.” (09/25/25)

“Early voting started Thursday across Seychelles as concerns over a drug crisis and environmental challenges facing the nation weigh heavily on the minds of many as they choose a new president and parliament. President Wavel Ramkalawan hopes to hold on to the top post in this tourist haven and Africa’s smallest country, both in land area and population. Ballots papers were flown to the outer islands and special polling stations opened for the elderly and essential workers for early voting, said election commission’s chief, Manuella Amesbury. 13) Starbucks to close hundreds of stores, lay off 900 corporate workers
Source: United Press International

“Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced plans Thursday to close hundreds of stores and undergo a second round of layoffs this year in an effort to revive the coffeehouse chain. In a letter to employees, Niccol said the company will have about 1% fewer stores beginning in fiscal year 2026, Oct. 1, compared to a year ago. This accounts for both new store openings and the just-announced closures. Starbucks had 18,734 stores in North America at the end of June, and will begin October with 18,300 stores. Niccol said the company was ‘working hard’ to find new placements for employees at the stores set to be shuttered.” (09/25/25)

Source: CNBC

“The European Commission launched an antitrust probe into German software behemoth SAP on Thursday, citing concerns about the company’s practices in software support services. According to the Commission, the investigation will assess ‘whether SAP may have distorted competition in the aftermarket for maintenance and support services related to an on-premises type of software, licensed by SAP, used for the management of companies’ business operations.’ SAP, in a statement on Thursday, said it believed its policies and actions were fully compliant with EU competition rules.” (09/25/25)

15) New virus strain spikes in 9 US states with symptoms from brain fog to persistent cough
Source: Fox News

“As COVID-19 continues to evolve, a new strain is spiking case numbers worldwide. The XFG variant, also known as Stratus, has been gaining momentum after first being detected in Southeast Asia in January, according to the World Health Organization. The organization designated Stratus as a ‘SATS-CoV-2 variant under monitoring’ after it had spread to 38 countries by June. Coronavirus cases have been on the rise in nine U.S. states, including New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and both North and South Dakota, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC’s wastewater monitoring in the U.S. has identified XFG as the ‘predominant variant,’ based on data from the week of Sept. 15. The Stratus variant follows the Nimbus strain, which is highly infectious and linked to severe ‘razor blade’ sore throat symptoms, according to Stony Brook Medicine, the academic medical center of Stony Brook University in New York.” (09/25/25)

16) Federal judge refuses to reinstate eight former inspectors general fired by Trump administration
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

“A federal judge refused on Wednesday to reinstate eight former inspectors general who sued after the Trump administration fired them with no warning and little explanation. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes said that while President Donald Trump likely violated the federal law governing the process for removing the non-partisan watchdogs from office, the firings didn’t cause enough irreparable harm to justify reinstating the watchdogs before the lawsuit is resolved. The eight plaintiffs were among 17 inspectors general who were fired by Trump on Jan. 24.” (09/24/25)

NORAD identified the aircraft as two Tu-95s, which are long-range strategic bombers, and two Su-35s, which are advanced fighter jets. ‘The Russian military aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. This Russian activity in the Alaskan ADIZ occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat,’ NORAD said in a statement.” (09/25/25)

18) Former French president Sarkozy given five-year sentence after Libya case
Source: BBC News [UK State Media]

“Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in jail after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy in a case related to millions of euros of illicit funds from the late Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi. The Paris criminal court acquitted him of all other charges, including passive corruption and illegal campaign financing. The ruling means he will spend time in jail even if he launches an appeal, which Sarkozy says he intends to do. Speaking after Thursday’s hearing, the 70-year-old, who was president from 2007-12, said the verdict was ‘extremely serious for rule of law.’ Sarkozy, who claims the case is politically motivated, was accused of using the funds from Gaddafi to finance his 2007 election campaign. In exchange, the prosecution alleged Sarkozy promised to help Gaddafi combat his reputation as a pariah with Western countries.” (09/25/25)

19) DNC holds onto decades-old Jeffrey Epstein donations after other Dems returned theirs
Source: Fox News

“The Democratic National Committee’s donations from the late financier Jeffrey Epstein have come under renewed scrutiny as Epstein’s sex-trafficking case files continue to roil the Trump administration. The DNC’s donations from Epstein in the mid-1990s, totaling $32,000, were never returned by the committee, while several other Democratic lawmakers and entities have since donated or returned theirs. The donations, visible in public campaign finance records, are back in the spotlight as the DNC relentlessly taunts the administration over Epstein by creating a social media account dedicated to raising awareness about his nonpublic case files and circulating a mobile billboard about it by the White House.” [editor’s note: The real reason the Dems are voting against the full disclosure of the files, as we suspected all along? – SAT] [editor’s note: Yes, this being publicly disclosed explains the Democrats, who have continuously voted for full disclosure of the files, voting against full disclosure of the files /sarc – TLK] (09/25/25)

20) Federal prosecutors preparing to seek Comey indictment, people familiar with matter say
Source: Washington Post

“The Justice Department is preparing to seek an indictment against former FBI director James B. Comey for allegedly giving false testimony to Congress about his role investigating efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, according to people familiar with the matter. The effort, which was in the planning stage Wednesday evening, comes days after President Donald Trump demanded prosecutors use the criminal justice system to punish his political opponents. The investigation centers on testimony Comey gave before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Sept. 30, 2020, about the FBI’s missteps in the ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ probe, which had delved into possible but ultimately unproven collaboration between Russia and Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Under the statute of limitations, the deadline to seek an indictment against Comey is Tuesday, five years from the date of his testimony.” (09/24/25)

21) The Failure of Constitutionalism
Source: Libertarian Institute
by Joseph Solis-Mullen

“September is Constitution Month, a celebration of the document produced by the 1787 Convention to replace the Articles of Confederation. Predictably, whether Republican or Democrat, there was no shortage of public effusions in its praise. Even libertarians, inheritors of the tradition of classical liberalism, are inclined to celebrate. This is, however, a mistake. For it was precisely their faith in constitutionalism that proved its great undoing. Indeed, the tragedy of classical liberalism is not simply that it was betrayed by later generations, or that its ideals were corrupted by progressives. Its failure was more profound: it trusted the state to limit itself.” (09/25/25)

22) Shutdown Theater, Briar Patch Edition
Source: Garrison Center
by Thomas L Knapp

“‘The White House budget office,’ CNN reports, ‘is telling federal agencies to prepare plans for mass firings in the event of a government shutdown’ …. The headline characterizes Trump’s latest move as a ‘threat’ intended to encourage Democrats to capitulate, and dissident Republicans to get back on side, in the latest fight over government spending. Threat? Maybe to Democrats who can’t bear the thought of any reduction, in any government function, ever. Maybe to Republicans who have pet programs they know would be affected by ‘reductions in force.’ The rest of us should reply as Br’er Rabbit did to Br’er Fox’s threat to cook him and eat him: ‘Oh, Br’er Fox, I don’t care what you do with me, so long as you just don’t throw me in that briar patch over there.'” (09/25/25)

23) Would Orwell Be Branded a Terrorist? The Government’s War on Thought Crimes
Source: CounterPunch
by John W Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead

“The Trump administration is taking its war on free speech into the realm of thought crimes. This is more than politics. In declaring ‘Antifa’ — a loose ideology based on opposition to fascism — as a domestic terrorist organization, the government has given itself a green light to treat speech, belief, and association as criminal acts. With this one executive order, political dissent has been rebranded as terrorism and free thought recast as a crime. Critics will argue that ‘Antifa’ means rioting and property destruction. But violent acts are already crimes, handled under ordinary law. What’s new — and dangerous — is punishing people not for violence, but for what they believe, say, or with whom they associate.” (09/25/25)

24) Presidents Have a Long History of Using the FCC to Silence Their Critics
Source: Ludwig von Mises Institute
by William L Anderson

“The president was angry at the press, claiming that journalists were spreading ‘poisonous propaganda’ about him. Using the Federal Communications Commission as a political weapon, he threatened the licenses of broadcast firms that employed people critical of him. While Donald Trump likely is the first person to come to mind here, the opening sentences are not about him. They are, instead, about the spiritual standard bearer of the Democratic Party — Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Indeed, while president, FDR used the powers of his office to punish, bully, and intimidate print and broadcast journalists that dared to disagree with the New York patrician. … Unlike Donald Trump — who at least is facing some condemnation from media quarters for his use of the FCC licensing process to bully broadcast media — Roosevelt is almost uniformly presented in the legacy media as a staunch civil libertarian.” (09/25/25)

25) Was Charlie Kirk’s Death Meaningful?
Source: Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G Hornberger

“[N]o one has come up with a big leftist, pro-socialist, pro-communist, pro-Antifa manifesto by his killer, similar to the manifesto, for example, that the Unabomber published. There is also no indication that the guy owned any pro-Marxian or pro-communist books or that he had steeped himself in ‘leftist ideology.’ Indeed, it turns out that both of his parents are Republicans, which meant that he grew up being ingrained with conservative values. Then, why have Trump, Vice-President Vance, and the conservative movement couched Kirk’s killing in some sort of big ideological left-right divide, one in which Kirk’s killer supposedly has a deep hatred for how conservatives are running America’s statist system. I think that it’s because they know that a political motivation for the killing would at least give a deeper meaning to Kirk’s death.” (09/25/25)

26) Where America can find trust
Source: Christian Science Monitor
by staff

“Here’s a stark example of polarization in Washington: As a Sept. 30 deadline looms over Congress to pass a spending bill, the two top Senate leaders from both parties are not talking to each other. And President Donald Trump backed out of negotiations with Democratic leaders on the bill. This dearth of dialogue ‘encapsulates the partisan tensions that have raised the odds that … government agencies will close at midnight Tuesday’, stated Politico. The shutdown standoff in the capital may seem like the norm. Yet it does not reflect electoral trends or public attitudes in much of the United States. Last year’s election, for instance, revealed a large drop in polarization between groups of voters compared with the 2020 election, according to a survey from Harvard University and YouGov. The divide between the generations, genders, and rural and urban Americans actually shrank.” (09/24/25)

Assembly Bill 5825, introduced by Democrat Sterley Stanley, would mandate that homeschool families align their curricula with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) requirements newly infused into curricula from history to health. Parents who’ve chosen to educate children independently often do so to avoid the heavily political worldviews imposed in government classrooms. By effectively compelling homeschooling families to parrot political narratives on race, gender, and identity, such mandates confirm the odd ownership many Democrats feel over people’s kids.” (09/25/25)

28) Sources Say Bay Area House Party

“Something is off about this Bay Area House Party. There are … women. ‘I’ve never seen a gender balance like this in the Bay Area,’ you tell your host Chris. ‘Is this one of those fabled ratio parties?’ ‘No — have you heard of curtfishing? It’s the new male dating trend. You say in your Bumble profile that you’re a member of the Dissident Right who often attends parties with Curtis Yarvin. Then female journos ask you out in the hopes that you’ll bring them along and they can turn it into an article.’ ‘What happens when they realize Curtis Yarvin isn’t at the party?’ ‘Oh, everyone pools their money and hires someone to pretend to be Curtis. You can just do things. Today it’s Ramchandra.'” (09/25/25)

29) Going Backward on Rights with Trump, or Just Around in Circles?
Source: TomDispatch
by Rebecca Gordon

“Warning: dangers in the mirror are often closer than they may appear. In other words, the next few paragraphs may seem to be hyperbole but are, in fact, expressions of reality (animated by a cold fury). On September 8, 2025, the Supreme Court did its best to murder what’s left of civil rights [sic] in this country. As Charlie Savage of the New York Times reported, in an unsigned 6-3 ruling, it overturned a lower court’s order forbidding ICE and the Border Patrol in Los Angeles from stopping, interrogating, and detaining people based on any of four factors: ‘apparent race or ethnicity; the fact that they speak English with an accent or speak Spanish; their presence at particular locations like farms or pickup sites for day laborers; and the type of work they do.'” (09/25/25)

30) With Its Latest Rate Cut, the Fed Serves Wall Street and the Regime
Source: Cobden Centre
by Ryan McMaken

“American policymakers have the opportunity to allow home prices to fall and to make homes available to millions of Americans who have been priced out thanks to decades of easy-money-fueled asset price growth. Americans policymakers have an opportunity to allow a flowering of new competition and new efficiency in the economy as the old incumbent firms that now subsist on debt and speculative manias actually make way for new entrepreneurs and new dynamic economy. But, as we saw this week, the Fed will do everything it can to stop that from happening. Even as price inflation continues to grow, the Fed is telling us it has to print more money to ensure that ‘number go up’ in terms of asset prices and GDP.” (09/25/25)

31) The Two-State Solution Is A Western Liberal Fairy Tale
Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist
by Caitlin Johnstone

“The only real benefit to this latest western ‘recognition’ of Palestine is that it drew out high-profile Israeli politicians to explain to western liberals in plain English that the entire state of Israel stands opposed to their vision of a two-state solution. Former Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz has a new op-ed in The New York Times where he explicitly states that opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state is ‘the heart’ of a national consensus among Israelis across the mainstream political spectrum, and that this isn’t an obstacle that will go away once Netanyahu is out of power. ‘Too often, Western leaders view our policies in this war not through the lens of national security, but through the prism of individuals — and, in particular, Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu,’ Gantz writes.” (09/25/25)

“Despite the obvious tensions between fascism and Christian virtues, the entanglement of fascist politics and Christian imagery is not new. It is dangerously powerful, especially in the contemporary context of an American Christianity in the grips of a right-wing identity crisis. I want to elaborate on the way MAGA has portrayed Kirk since his assassination and connect it to the warped, spiritually dessicated version of Christianity that undergirds Trumpism today. I hope to highlight how degraded our moral situation has become.” (09/25/25)

33) Trump’s Designation of Antifa as Domestic Terror Is Legal Nonsense
Source: Common Dreams
by Lauren Regan

“On Monday the Trump regime signed yet another executive order that plainly states what many of us have known for a while now—that the cabal currently in power are unabashed fascists. US President Donald Trump declared that those opposed to fascism, those who [claim to be] anti-fascist in this county (a country that has fought wars against fascism) are now labeled as ‘domestic terrorists’ by this current government—in essence, enemies of the state. Trump and his minions do not have the constitutional or statutory authority to create a terrorist designation pertaining to an amorphous political belief. Period. The First Amendment continues to protect freedom of speech and association, and would thus prevent any congressional attempt to enact a law that would allow the US government to designate US groups as terrorist organizations based simply upon their political activities.” (09/25/25)

“Moldova’s September 28, 2025, parliamentary elections are shaping up to be another highly contentious struggle between pro-Russia and anti-Russia factions. Both the European Union and Moscow also are accusing each other of illicit election meddling to put their respective Moldovan clients in power. In many respects, the lead up to this election is reminiscent of the tense atmosphere and inflammatory accusations of the 2023 vote for parliament and the 2024 presidential election that resulted in a disputed victory for pro-Western incumbent President Maia Sandu.” (09/25/25)

by Paul Jacob

“Google is no longer silent about whether the Biden administration pushed Google to censor customers for their viewpoints. Under Biden, Google censored YouTube content creators under federal pressure, specifically about COVID-19. But Google did muzzle discourse on other matters, such as disputes about the legitimacy of the 2020 election, as a result of its own policies that it now says are ‘sunsetted’ along with policies resulting from its submission to a rogue administration. Its own role is important because we know that a tech giant can effectively resist federal pressure to censor on the basis of the principles of the company’s leaders.” (09/25/25)

36) The unitary unilateral war on “narco-terrorism”
Source: Responsible Statecraft

“As though he were Zeus unleashing lightning bolts, President Donald Trump announced on September 19 the unilateral destruction of a third boat in the Caribbean suspected of carrying illegal drugs destined for the U.S. It followed similar strikes announced September 2 and September 15. Trump declared the attacks had killed 17 ‘narcoterrorists.’ What’s peculiar about these attacks is that they’re being revealed by the president himself, on his Truth Social account. … These are plainly extra-judicial killings carried out ‘on my Orders,’ as Trump said in all three posts (perhaps he thinks capitalizing “Orders” makes them legal).” (09/25/25)

37) Elites call the Constitution “broken;” Americans know it’s our greatest gift
Source: Fox News Forum
by Jonathan Turley

“‘I am very angry.’ Those words from Harvard Law Professor Michael Klarman were something of an understatement in our debate at Colgate University last week over whether our country is ‘in a constitutional crisis.’ Taking the affirmative position, Klarman lashed out at what he called the current ‘authoritarianism rooted in old-fashioned white supremacy.’ Drawing analogies to Nazi Germany, he denounced President Donald Trump and his supporters as ‘fascists’ while calling ICE agents ‘thugs’ operating ‘concentration camps’ where immigrants are ‘essentially tortured.’ When I noted that Klarman was demonstrating the license of what I have called our ‘age of rage,’ he readily agreed: ‘I am enraged!’ He said he wanted to ‘show rage’ because the constitutional system ‘is not working’ and that he spoke ‘to alarm you … to shake people out of their insomnia.'” (09/25/25)

His misuse of federal agents and multiple state National Guard personnel from Red states in Blue cities for pretextual immigration enforcement actions that double as political repression operations has been a particular focus of mine. But you don’t have to be America’s chief executive in order to have the power to try to violate a citizen’s rights. 41) Before It Even Began, This Year’s UNGA Revealed Its Bias Toward Israel
Source: Common Dreams
by Caitlin Scialla

“The United Nations is often regarded as the global community’s foremost symbol of peace and problem solving. Each September, world leaders gather in New York City for the annual General Assembly, a weeklong summit that is framed as the pinnacle of diplomacy and international cooperation. This year’s 80th session opened on Tuesday, September 23, under the theme: ‘Better together, 80 years and more for peace, development, and human rights.’ While the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) boasts a laundry list of urgent global issues, the question of Palestine is poised to take center stage. Against the backdrop of deepening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and a recent wave of announcements by many Western countries formally recognizing Palestinian statehood, the world is watching closely to see how global leaders will respond.” (09/25/25)

43) Trump, Kennedy Overreach on Tylenol but Don’t Go Far Enough on Drug Regulations
Source: Cato Institute
by Jeffrey A Singer

“President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced Sept. 22 what they called ‘bold actions to tackle autism epidemic.’ It’s certainly bold to label the rise in autism diagnoses as an ‘epidemic,’ considering that the definition and diagnostic criteria have broadened from autism only to include autism spectrum disorder, a broader category affecting more people. Also, increased awareness and screening among clinicians, educators and parents have resulted in more children being diagnosed. However, the issue is real and requires investigation into its causes, prevention and treatment. But introducing government bureaucrats’ biases into the research process is not only unhelpful – it could distort the research agenda and hinder progress. Let scientific research work. Keep federal government out of it.” (09/24/25)

It is the morning Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, July 21. Harris is in her kitchen watching the Cooking Channel and making pancakes for her grandnieces when the president calls from his Rehoboth Beach house in Delaware, where he’d hunkered down with his family after his disastrous debate performance. ‘I’ve decided I’m dropping out,’ Biden tells her, promising to endorse her as his successor.” (09/24/25)

46) When Strongmen Own the Store
Source: Persuasion
by Robert Tracinski

“In the popular imagination, Trump is a successful businessman who wants the ‘pro-business’ policies of lower taxes and less regulation, and he and his supporters continue to use the threat of ‘socialism’ as an all-purpose bogeyman. Even Trump’s authoritarianism seems like a selling point to some of these supporters, who are tempted by the idea that he can impose free-market policies that lack sufficient public support to get through Congress. This is one of the great illusions of authoritarianism. The supporters of a strongman see him as the battering ram to push through their long-stymied ideological agenda. They give him unchecked power so he can do the things they want him to do. But once he has that power, he does the things he wants to do. There is an inexorable logic in authoritarianism that always turns strongmen against economic freedom and free markets.” (09/24/25)

by Bryan Caplan

“When I delved into the empirical growth literature, I was surprised to learn that macroeconomists struggle to detect much effect of education on growth. In most data sets, the national education premium is a small fraction of the private education premium. I also discovered a handful of papers testing for reverse causation from GDP to education, suggesting that the economic benefits of education are even smaller than they look. I was glad the reverse causation papers existed, but they were only moderately convincing. I’d hardly call them a smoking gun. During my trip to Qatar this summer, however, I saw the smoking gun in all its glory. The gun’s name is Education City.” (09/24/25)

“I spent the past decade watching conservatives complain about ‘cancel culture’ and government attacks on free speech. And then, last week, I watched them enact these very things on a grander scale: Social media mobs hounding random nobodies out of their jobs; the government pushing companies to censor speech. … This weapons-grade hypocrisy was the work of a small number of conservatives, but it was supported online by many more. If anyone called out the hypocrisy, conservatives responded that this was different: This was celebrating murder. Or they pointed toward progressive social media and said, ‘You want to see hypocrisy? Try looking over there.’ … However silly progressives look, at least they are now pointed in the right direction, while conservatives are headed in the wrong one.” (09/24/25)

49) Big Banks Behaving Badly
Source: The American Prospect
by David Dayen

“One Tuesday night in July 2023, Ron Luessen got contacted by a late-shift worker on the support team for Elcon, a construction firm in the Pacific Northwest. Luessen, an equipment manager, was off the clock, but he was the main point of contact, and the worker was puzzled. ‘We’re supposed to be working tonight, and this place is closed,’ Luessen recalled the message. ‘What do you want us to do?’ There wasn’t any reason for the building to be closed. Elcon was steadily busy, recently picking up business in Billings, Montana, beyond its base of operations in Seattle. The company had even just updated the kitchens. But the next day, around 120 Elcon employees got the official word: Don’t come in. After 42 years building bridges, highways, rail lines, airports, and basic infrastructure Americans use every day, Elcon was history.” (09/24/25)
