0)  In Case I Forgot To Mention It, Please Send Money (Year-End Fundraiser Update)

Thanks to subscribing contributor IH, whose $2.50 monthly donation over the weekend brings our year-end fundraiser total to $1,358.34!

I'd hoped for a bigger weekend. We're now 2/3 of the way through the fundraiser period, but less than halfway to our goal.

We need to raise another $1,392.16 (after which supporter GL will "match funds" to get us to the final goal of $5,501) by December 31. And the sooner the better -- once we hit the goal, I get to stop yammering about money entirely for the rest of the year and mostly until next October.

So please, help us over the hump by supporting the freedom movement's daily newspaper at:

1)  Black Sea: Ukrainian drones hit Russian tankers
Source: BBC News [UK state media]

“Ukrainian naval drones hit two oil tankers from Russia’s so-called ‘shadow fleet’ as they travelled through the Black Sea, Ukrainian officials have said. Footage verified by the BBC shows waterborne drones speeding through the waves into the vessels, before detonating into a ball of flame, sending black smoke into the air. The targeted tankers were named by Turkish authorities as the Kairos and Virat, both flagged to the Gambia. Both were hit off the Turkish coast on Friday, with the Virat reportedly struck again on Saturday. No casualties were reported. The attacks appear to be an escalation by Kyiv as it tries to hit Russia’s oil revenues, which are critical for funding its war in Ukraine.” (11/30/25)

2)  White House denies report of “second strike” order on survivors of Caribbean murder attempt
Source: CBC News [Canadian state media]

“Lawmakers from both U.S. parties said Sunday they support congressional reviews of military strikes ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump against vessels suspected of smuggling drugs in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, citing a published report that Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order for all crew members to be killed as part of a Sept. 2 attack. The lawmakers said they did not know whether last week’s Washington Post report — which Hegseth called ‘fake news’ — was true, and some Republicans were skeptical, but they said attacking survivors of an initial missile strike poses serious legal concerns. ‘This rises to the level of a war crime if it’s true,’ said Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia.” [editor’s note: It rose to the level of a war crime when the first strike was ordered – TLK] (11/30/25)

“Swiss voters have rejected a tax on ultra wealthy residents and turned down a proposal to extend mandatory military service to women, initial poll results showed Sunday. Nearly 85% of voters rejected military or civic service for females, and 79% voted against a 50% inheritance tax for the most wealthy Swiss.” (11/30/25)

4)  US consumers spent a record $11.8 billion online during Black Friday sales
Source: CBS News

“Despite wider economic uncertainty hovering above this year’s holiday season, shoppers turned out in big numbers for Black Friday — spending billions of dollars both in stores and online. Adobe Analytics, which tracks e-commerce, said U.S. consumers spent a record $11.8 billion online Friday, marking a 9.1% jump from last year. It was a slight increase from the company’s spending estimate of $11.7 billion.” (11/29/25)

5)  “Closed in its entirety:” Trump tells airlines to avoid Venezuela
Source: USA Today

“President Donald Trump is issuing a warning to avoid Venezuelan airspace as his administration is ramping up its strikes against drug trafficking organizations. In a Nov. 29 post on social media, the president told ‘all airlines, pilots, drug dealers and human traffickers,” to keep clear of the flying areas ‘above and surrounding’ the South American country as he contemplates land strikes. Tensions are rising in the region as observers suspect the Trump administration may [attempt to] topple Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro …. The U.S. positioned its largest aircraft carrier, two guided missile destroyers, and a special operations ship near Venezuela and around 12,000 troops are stationed in the area.” (11/29/25)

6)  Israel: Netanyahu seeks pardon in corruption case
Source: The Guardian [UK]

“Benjamin Netanyahu has asked Israel’s president for a pardon for bribery and fraud charges and an end to a five-year corruption trial, arguing that it would be in the ‘public interest.’ … Presidential pardons in Israel have almost never been granted before conviction, with the one notable exception of a 1986 case involving the Shin Bet security service. A pre-emptive pardon of a politician in a corruption case without an admission of guilt would be precedent-setting and highly controversial. The submission on Sunday comes weeks after Donald Trump wrote to Herzog to ask him to pardon Netanyahu, who has been on trial since 2020 on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, involving alleged political favours for wealthy backers in return for gifts or positive media coverage.” (11/30/25)

7)  Spot bitcoin, ether ETFs recover momentum with first net-positive inflow week since October
Source: The Block

“U.S. spot bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds posted their first combined week of net inflows since late October, signaling a potential turnaround following a brutal stretch of institutional outflows. According to SoSoValue data, spot bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $70.1 million in net inflows for the shortened trading week ending Nov. 28, which included just four trading days due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Spot Ethereum ETFs fared even better, logging roughly $312.6 million in net inflows over the same period. The positive flows mark a sharp departure from recent weeks.” (11/29/25)

8)  Russia: Regime bans Human Rights Watch in widening crackdown on critics
Source: Al Jazeera [Qatari state media]

“Russian authorities have outlawed Human Rights Watch as an ‘undesirable organisation,’ a label that, under a 2015 law, makes involvement with it a criminal offence. Friday’s designation means the international human rights group must stop all work in Russia, and opens those who cooperate with or support the organisation to prosecution. HRW has repeatedly accused Russia of suppressing dissenters and committing war crimes during its ongoing war against Ukraine. … The decision by the Russian prosecutor general’s office is the latest move in a crackdown on Kremlin critics, journalists and activists, which has intensified since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.” (11/29/25)

9)  US FDA claims Covid shots killed 10 children
Source: NBC News

“The director of the Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine division told agency staff in a memo that an internal review found that at least 10 children died ‘after and because of receiving’ the Covid vaccine. The 3,000-word memo, obtained by NBC News, was written by Dr. Vinay Prasad, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. In it, Prasad claims that agency staff determined that ‘no fewer than 10’ of 96 child deaths reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS, between 2021 and 2024 were ‘related’ to Covid vaccination. He said the true numbers could be higher, accusing the agency of ignoring the safety concerns for years.” (11/29/25)

10) Regimes endorse protecting sharks amid overfishing worries
Source: New York Post

“Governments at a wildlife trade conference have adopted greater protections for over 70 species of sharks and rays amid concerns that overfishing is driving some to the brink of extinction. The measures, approved Friday at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora in Uzbekistan, bans the trade in oceanic whitetip sharks, manta and devil rays as well as whale sharks. It would strengthen regulations for gulper sharks, smoothhound sharks and the tope shark, which means they can be traded, but there must be proof the sources are legal, sustainable and traceable. Governments also agreed to enact zero-annual export quotas for several species of guitarfishes and wedgefishes, meaning the legal international trade will mostly be halted.” (11/29/25)

12) Germany: Far-right party sets up its new youth wing as thousands protest
Source: Seattle Times

“A confident far-right Alternative for Germany set up its new youth organization on Saturday even as thousands of protesters converged on the western city of Giessen, where the party held its meeting, some of them clashing with police. A convention of the anti-immigration party, known by its German acronym AfD, started more than two hours late after groups of protesters blocked or tried to block roads in and around the city of around 93,000, delaying many delegates’ arrival. … AfD finished second in Germany’s national election in February with over 20% of the vote and is now the biggest opposition party. The party, with which mainstream parties refuse to work, has continued to rise in polls as Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s coalition government has failed to impress voters.” (11/29/25)

“Several protesters were arrested in New York City after they blocked streets and exits in an apparent attempt to prevent federal agents from carrying out an immigration raid, according to police and video footage from the scene. The incident unfolded just before noon on Saturday in the area of Centre Street and Howard Street in lower Manhattan, the New York City Police Department said. Officers responded to a call for a disorderly group and found multiple people ‘blocking the street and exits at different locations.’ Some were seen throwing debris, police said. 18) Airbus issues major A320 recall, threatening widespread global disruption
Source: Reuters

“Europe’s Airbus said on Friday it was ordering immediate repairs to 6,000 of its widely used A320 family of jets in a sweeping recall affecting more than half the global fleet, threatening upheaval during the busiest travel weekend of the year in the United States and sparking disruption worldwide. The setback appears to be among the largest recalls affecting Airbus in its 55-year history and comes weeks after the A320 overtook the Boeing 737 as the most-delivered model. At the time Airbus issued its bulletin to the plane’s more than 350 operators, some 3,000 A320-family jets were in the air. The fix mainly involves reverting to earlier software and is relatively simple, but must be carried out before the planes can fly again, other than repositioning to repair centres, according to the bulletin to airlines seen by Reuters.” (11/28/25)

“Pope Leo XIV Sunday arrived in Beirut as he continues first foreign trip to bring a message of peace the region at a time of war and escalating tensions. Leo touched down in Lebanon after a visit to Turkey to mark an important Christian anniversary at a time where the predominantly Sunni Muslim country of over 85 million has positioned itself as a key intermediary in talks to end the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. … Lebanon, a Muslim-majority country where about a third of the population is Christian, has always been a priority for the Vatican, a bulwark for Christians throughout the region. 21) Mamdani and Trump are two peas in the authoritarian pod
Source: Orange County Register
by Steven Greenhut

“The Mamdani-Trump meeting was the embodiment of what I’ve long predicted and feared. The populist right swept away conservatives’ traditional belief in limited government and market-based reform — and replaced it with a cultural agenda fueled by anger and dependent on the wiles of a Dear Leader. It’s been successfully politically (although not economically and it’s dangerous to the health of our democracy). It was only a matter of time before Democrats gave up on their flaccid approach and embraced left-wing populism in return. This is the dictionary definition of the Horseshoe Theory, where extremes on the right and left are not divided at the far ends of a long line but at the ends of a horseshoe. Populists on both sides believe in an activist government, although they have different motivations. As fundamentally collectivist, both movements are remarkably similar.” (11/28/25)

23) Socialism with a Fig Leaf
Source: Free Association
by Sheldon Richman

“What work does democratic perform in the phrase democratic socialism? It’s a fig leaf intended to conceal what would presumably be repugnant to most people: the coercive regimentation inherent in socialism, whether international (Marxist) or national (fascist). Socialism has a nasty record dating back to 1917, so socialists have felt compelled to clean up its image. Democracy is supposed to do the cleaning up. But does it? Could it? Before we get to that, we should remind ourselves that no single conception of socialism exists.” (11/28/25)

“The first lesson was that Ukraine was stronger than Russian or American authorities expected. Most commenters expected Russia to win rapidly, not unreasonable given the relative size of the two countries’ population and economies. They didn’t. It took longer to learn but the second lesson was that so was Russia. Their military performance was not impressive but neither sanctions nor the cost of three and a half years of a very bloody war seems to have had much effect on the economy, the conditions for Russian civilians, or Putin’s hold on power.” (11/28/25)

26) US Regime Change Interventionism Is Reliably Disastrous
Source: Caitlin Johnstone, Rogue Journalist

“Trump has bizarrely announced that the airspace over Venezuela is ‘closed’, posting the following on Truth Social on Saturday: ‘To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.’ It isn’t even clear what precisely the president means by this. Are they about to start shooting down Venezuelan aircraft like they’ve been blowing up boats? Are they preparing for a ground invasion? Whatever it is, things are looking ugly. Washington is banging the war drums trying to justify regime change interventionism in Venezuela under the ridiculous claim that it’s about fighting drug trafficking just as Trump announces that he will pardon former president of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernández, who the US convicted of drug trafficking charges just last year.” (12/01/25)

27) Most in GOP say: No so fast, Mr. President
Source: Boston Globe
by Eugene Scott

“Some liberals assume that supporters of President Trump will allow the president to get away with anything and everything. It’s a fair assumption, considering that despite his record-low approval ratings, most Republicans still look at his job performance favorably. But a new study shows that most Republican voters have little to no appetite for an authoritarian leader. Fewer than 30 percent of Republicans support giving Trump broad authority, including the power to bypass Congress, to achieve his goals, according to a report released last week from the Johns Hopkins University Agora Institute, where I am a visiting fellow. … Despite Trump and many of his most diehard supporters often proclaiming that voters gave the president a mandate to do whatever he wants by any means necessary, the data suggest that the facts couldn’t be further from the truth.” (11/29/25)

28) Is Trump already a lame duck?
Source: Los Angeles Times
by Robin Abcarian

“The signs of lame duckery grow as Trump’s popularity dips. His party was trounced in the off-year elections this month. Inflation, which he promised to whip, has not abated. Prices remain high. Consumer confidence has plummeted. Health insurance premiums are about to skyrocket. The Supreme Court does not appear to be looking kindly on his tariff schemes, nor on his plan to end birthright citizenship. Lower courts have defied him at almost every turn, most recently tossing out the absurd criminal indictments of former FBI Director James Comey and New York Atty. Gen. Letitia James. Now members of his own party are beginning to stand up to him.” (11/30/25)

To start, let me tell you a little something about that. For decades as a young adult, I lived and traveled in Russia. I was an anthropology doctoral student and human rights worker, studying the effects of President Vladimir Putin’s centralizing policies and that country’s Christian nationalist media on the everyday lives of Russians. However, on Friday, the Florida representative set a new low in American politics: attempting to assign some of the blame for the shooting of two National Guardsmen on President Donald Trump. On CNN’s ‘News Central,’ Wasserman Schultz declared: ‘This is a deeply concerning situation, but, you know, it’s one that I think we have to — it begs the question, would an individual have flown across the country to target law enforcement officers in Washington, D.C.? And, I mean, the answer is likely no.” (11/29/25)

32) Term limits will not make Congress work better
Source: The Hill
by Jaehun Lee

“Our system of government already empowers voters to remove ineffective, corrupt or otherwise problematic representatives and senators. All members of Congress must run for reelection if they wish to continue serving. If constituents are displeased with the body of work that their elected representatives have put in during a given term, they can simply decline to reelect them.” (11/29/25)

33) Amnesty Confirms What It’s Plain to See: Israel’s Genocide in Gaza Continues
Source: Informed Comment
by Juan Cole

“Amnesty International concludes that, over a month after a ceasefire was agreed upon in Gaza and all living Israeli hostages were returned, the Israeli authorities continue to pursue the textbook definition of genocide ‘by continuing to deliberately inflict conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.’ Moreover, Israeli leaders continue openly to affirm that this course of action is intentional on their parts. … The Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnes Callamard, observed that ‘Palestinians remain held within less than half of the territory of Gaza, in the areas least capable of supporting life, with humanitarian aid still severely restricted.’ Amnesty says that the Israeli military continues to occupy on the order of 55% of the Gaza Strip. There has been no move to rehabilitate the farmland that has been deliberately destroyed by the Israelis over two years or rebuild livestock.” (11/30/25)

“Over the last November weekend of 2025, a memo circulated throughout the Federal Food and Drug Administration that might well trigger the entire unraveling of the US vaccine program with a focus on the mandated Covid shot in particular. The author is Dr. Vinay Prasad, who was a moderate critic during the Covid but has become ferocious since his appointment as the head of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research of the FDA. … It is reprinted in full below.” (11/29/25)

36) A Sick Society, part 1
Source: Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G Hornberger

“The irrational murders of two children and the wounding of several more at the hands of a killer in Minneapolis remind us again that Americans live in a very sick society. Not surprisingly, we hear the standard response whenever this sort of thing happens, which is on a regular basis — that we just need more gun control. Never mind that the killer’s guns were all legally acquired and that the shootings took place in a mandatory ‘gun-free’ zone. What Americans do not want to confront is the more basic question: Why does this sort of random, irrational killing occur on a regular basis here in the United States? After all, there is widespread gun ownership in Switzerland, and yet the Swiss don’t experience these types of regularly occurring irrational mass killings.” (11/28/25)

37) Do Something About Prices, Republicans, Or You’re Going To Lose
Source: Town Hall
by Derek Hunter

“I absolutely love seeing the left-wingers and corporate media squirm and whine about deportations, I really do. Every little story about how someone who ‘never did nothing to nobody’ that ends with someone here unlawfully makes me smile. ‘No one is above the law,’ Democrats routinely say without irony, which is fighting harder than they fight for anyone other than child genital mutilation to keep gang members, wife beaters and any other kind of illegal [sic] alien from being subjected to our laws. They hate you, they hate us, they hate everything and want to see whatever they can’t control be destroyed so they can replace it with institutions designed to make you subservient to them. And third-worlders who can’t speak English or even read in their own language will always be subservient/obedient to them. This is why I’m hopeful about the midterms.” (11/30/25)

38) Trump Voids 92% Biden Signatures
Source: Karl Dickey’s Freedom Vanguard
by Karl Dickey

“Never a dull moment in the news coming out of the White House. Today, we learned that President Donald Trump suddenly declared that 92% of former President Joe Biden’s signatures will be voided due to the prior administration’s use of the Auto Pen. Trump claims that Biden’s Executive Orders are null and void as the Auto Pen was not used with his direct authorization, but became a ‘rubber stamp’ used by unelected staffers of the Biden administration, and Joe Biden did not know what was being signed. As an American, I usually cringe at the chaos of politics, but this situation rips the mask off something we’ve been warning about for decades: The Administrative State is running on autopilot, and not in a good way.” (11/28/25)

39) Should Interest Rates Go Up or Down?
Source: Independent Institute
by Scott Beyer

“Interest rate direction is central to modern U.S. monetary policy, and the last two decades, that direction’s been mostly downward. The Federal Reserve drove the federal funds rate to near zero in late 2008, kept it there for seven years, and rates have stayed unusually low through this decade. As the Fed now approaches its December meeting, it’s once again weighing the health of the dollar (which demands raising rates) against the loose money policies benefitting the stock and housing markets by lowering them once again. It raises the question of which demographics the Fed really wants to serve.” (11/28/25)

40) Why Modern Socialists Dodge Definition
Source: The Daily Economy
by Daniel J Smith

“In an era where ‘democratic socialism’ has gained renewed traction among politicians, activists, and intellectuals, one might assume the term carries a clear, operational meaning. Yet, a closer examination reveals a concept shrouded in ambiguity, often serving as a rhetorical shield rather than a blueprint for policy. Proponents often invoke it to promise equality and democracy without the baggage of historical socialist failures, but this vagueness undermines serious discourse. Precise definitions are essential for theoretical, empirical, and philosophical scrutiny. Without them, democratic socialism risks becoming little more than a feel-good label, evading accountability while potentially eroding the very freedoms it claims to uphold.” (11/28/25)

41) Why We Must Save “Sistine Chapel of the New Deal” From Trump Destruction
Source: Common Dreams
by John P Murphy

“Painted figures haunt an empty building. A boy leaning on a pair of crutches. A father and son wandering a barren railroad track. A nuclear family at a picnic table. These poignant scenes were painted by two of the foremost American artists of the twentieth century, Ben Shahn and Philip Guston. No one is around to see them. They are on the walls of the Wilbur J. Cohen Building in Washington, DC, one of forty-five federal properties currently earmarked for sale. The staff who worked in the building have been mostly fired, furloughed, or relocated. Only the murals remain—and perhaps not for long. The Cohen Building has been called ‘the Sistine Chapel of the New Deal’ for its ambitious mural cycles.” (11/30/25)

42) Antitrust and Tariffs Are on a Collision Course
Source: Foundation for Economic Education
by Rachel Chiu

“Until the Supreme Court decides whether Trump’s tariffs are constitutional, American businesses are stuck in limbo — and the best way out invites antitrust scrutiny. … Home Depot and its subsidiary entered into an agreement to acquire building materials distributor Gypsum Management & Supply. This move consolidates their supply chain for building materials, including drywall, ceilings, and steel framing. Likewise, this summer, Walmart opened its first beef facility to create ‘more resiliency in [its] supply chain.’ … If SCOTUS finds that Trump’s tariffs are legal, these mergers could be the first of many among American businesses. In that case, antitrust regulators pose a real risk to the economy.” (11/28/25)

43) Denmark’s Cows Must Die
Source: Common Sense
by Paul Jacob

“Sorry, cows. The planet comes first. I don’t want to give the wrong impression. No order has been issued requiring Danish farmers to kill their cows. The state is merely requiring that they feed the cows poison. The purpose of the wonder-additive, Bovaer, produced by a company called Elanco Animal Health, is to limit the methane that cows produce as they digest their food. Then, says Elanco, the amount of methane that the cows emit — by a method too indelicate to mention — will be reduced 30 percent. Elanco must have done some kind of testing to figure this out, I suppose. What is the point, though? Why does anybody want to accomplish this?” (11/28/25)

45) After the attack on two National Guardsmen, it’s time to raise the immigration bar
Source: New York Post
by Isaac Schorr

“It’s long past time America’s immigration optimists and restrictionists came to an arrangement. For a decade now, these two groups have been locked in an impassioned, sometimes vicious battle over how best to preserve the country they both cherish. And for the most part, that fight has taken place within the confines of the GOP — the only party ready, willing and able to have an honest conversation about migration and its downstream effects on America’s very character. On Wednesday, that fight resumed in earnest when Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who came to the United States amid the Biden administration’s chaotic withdrawal from his country [and was granted asylum by the Trump administration], allegedly opened fire on two National Guard troops in Washington, DC.” (11/28/25)

48) The UK Has It Wrong on Digital ID. Here’s Why.
Source: Electronic Frontier Foundation
by Paige Collings

“In late September, the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his government’s plans to introduce a new digital ID scheme in the country to take effect before the end of the Parliament (no later than August 2029). The scheme will, according to the Prime Minister, ‘cut the faff’ in proving people’s identities by creating a virtual ID on personal devices with information like people’s name, date of birth, nationality or residency status, and photo to verify their right to live and work in the country. This is the latest example of a government creating a new digital system that is fundamentally incompatible with a privacy-protecting and human rights-defending democracy.” (11/28/25)

49) California’s Child Farmworkers: Exhausted, Underpaid, and Toiling in Toxic Fields
Source: The American Prospect
by Robert J Lopez

“The summer sun burned through the clouds in California’s Salinas Valley, where a bounty of berries and leafy green vegetables grows across this rich farmland renowned as the ‘Salad Bowl of the World.’ Jose, a quiet 14-year-old, was squatting and bending over for hours with other workers in a sprawling strawberry field. The pickers, many of them also minors, snapped berries from plants and placed them in plastic cartons, eight of them in a cardboard box. They moved quickly along the long rows that lined the field. Jose was exhausted but working as fast as he could; he was being paid $2.40 for each box he filled. As he ran with a full box, he fell on the uneven ground and twisted his ankle. It hurt for days, he later recalled, but he didn’t say anything to his boss for fear of losing his job.” (11/28/25)

by Andy Worthington

“On November 18, the UN General Assembly, which represents all 193 member states of the UN, overwhelmingly passed a worthy resolution affirming ‘the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,’ including ‘the right to their independent State of Palestine.’ … Shamefully, however, just the day before, on November 17, eleven of the countries that voted for the General Assembly resolution — the UK, France, Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Somalia and South Korea — voted for a Security Council resolution introduced by the US which, as the international lawyer Itay Epshtain explained on X, explicitly ‘aims to extinguish, suspend, or condition’ the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine.” (11/28/25)
