Naked ambition

A local nudist group has asked Nambucca Shire Council to designate
part of Valla Beach as a ‘clothing optional’ zone.
The proposed 300m long stretch of beach, 100m south of the entrance to
Deep Creek, would legally allow people to swim and walk naked.
According to its submission to council’s regular meeting tonight
(16th), the Nambucca Valley Nudist Group believed the introduction of
a clothing optional beach in the shire would increase tourism.
“There are many nudists throughout Australia and the world who travel
for business or pleasure,” the submission said.
“They often travel through the Nambucca Shire and are disappointed to
not be able to pursue their chosen lifestyle at a designated clothes
optional beach.”
The closest beaches of this kind are in South West Rocks in the south
and Coffs Harbour in the north.
Nambucca Shire Council’s general manager Michael Coulter has
recommended that councillors vote to refer the request to the Valla
Beach Urban and Hall Committee for comment, and to the NSW Police
Force “given perceptions associated with nude beaches attracting
perverts and associated crime”.
The Nambucca Valley Nudist Group said the aim for the area would be to
create a ‘safe, family orientated environment’ for local and visiting
nudists that is accessible and close to toilet facilities.
The Valla Beach Urban and Hall Committee had not been informed of the
proposal until contacted by the Guardian News and does not have a
position on the proposal at this stage.
The committee is encouraging local people to have their say on the
issue at the group’s public, quarterly meeting at the Valla Beach Hall
on November 17 at 7pm.

Hi All

Further to this article, the Nambucca Valley Naturist Group is holding its
inaugural get together on Saturday 18th October.
The group will be a social group meeting about once a month and will cater
for those in the Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Valley to Kempsey area. Why not
come along and meet other naturists in your area.

For details please contact Maureen or Lindsay on
(02) 6564 8849 or 0428 517 829

The efforts of the new group for Valla Beach are much appreciated, and I
wish this regional naturist group success with their proposal.

Cheers
Gerald

next line, as the clever surfer noticed. For everyone else here goes again:

I so hope that they're successful. I walked along that beach quite a
lot, in the late seventies, actually, from Nambucca. (Yes. It's a long
way. Was very satisfying. Time for thinking.) Used to be amused that,
particularly an elderly couple used to cover up, as they were doing
the walk, from Valla, and saw me in the distance, approaching.
It seems such a natural thing to have that beach made legal. Wish it
was closer to Nambucca itself, though.

I'm a nudist family man.
I'm a Coffs Harbour resident.
I want a legal "clothes optional" beach in the area.....So sick of the
attitude of "not in my backyard" that is being spread by elderly
narrow minded homophobic individuals that rally together with their
bingo / lawn bowl buddies and sway the vote against legalising nudist
beaches. These arseholes think they own the beaches, don't they
realise the beaches are free, public spaces...beaches that these
people don't even bother to access anyway.

Shame on the Nambucca Shire Council and Valla Beach Urban and Hall
Committee for not approving a legal "clothes optional" beach in this
beautiful part of north east NSW. I was there at these meetings and
can't believe how closed minded and arrogant the local village people
were. Most of these ancient homophobic individuals may live in these
coastal communities but what is more alarming is, they don't even step
onto these local beaches and don't care to swim nor sunbath there.
Nudists may well be a minority, but we deserve a little piece of what
is "public" beach. All we're asking for it to be legal for clothes
optional bathing. Let's not allow Australia to step back into
Victorian times, let's advance into the future of liberation from
outdated views and let's do it for our children and their children.
