Hi,

I'm sure you all know this, but I just realized it. When I search for a term at the top of the Freebase page and the suggestions pop down, if I hover over a selection to view the pop-up info box, I noticed the text description is new. It's not pulling it from Freebase. DBPedia, Wikipedia or Knowledge Graph likely.

I realized it when I looked up deceased celebrities, like Wes Craven: "Wesley Earl "Wes" Craven WAS an American film director...

Interesting.  Although the Topic API is stuck with the old description stored in Freebase, the Freebase Search API is returning the current value from the Knowledge Graph, which has been updated from Wikipedia by /user/wikidata using ziki-basic -- and there's now a new MID format /t/...

  1. description{,…}
    1. /common/topic/description[{value: [{,…}], citation: {uri: ["http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Craven"]},…},…]
      1. 0{value: [{,…}], citation: {uri: ["http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Craven"]},…}
        1. citation{uri: ["http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Craven"]}
          1. uri["http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Craven"]
        2. provenance[{creator: [{id: "/user/wikidata", mid: "/t/2mkdr584r53k"}], process: ["ziki-basic"],…}]
          1. 0{creator: [{id: "/user/wikidata", mid: "/t/2mkdr584r53k"}], process: ["ziki-basic"],…}
            1. creator[{id: "/user/wikidata", mid: "/t/2mkdr584r53k"}]
            2. process["ziki-basic"]
            3. restrictions["REQUIRES_CITATION"]
            4. source["http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Craven"]
          2. value[{,…}]
          1. 0{,…}
          2.   lang"en"
          3.   value"Wesley Earl "Wes" Craven was an American film director, writer, producer, and actor known for his work on horror films, particularly slasher films.↵He was best known for creating the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise featuring the Freddy Krueger character, directing the first installment and Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and co-writing A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors with Bruce Wagner.↵Craven also directed all four films in the Scream series, and co-created the Ghostface character. Some of his other films include The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, The People Under The Stairs, Red Eye, The Serpent And The Rainbow and Vampire In Brooklyn."

This is all pre-work that was done under the covers that Google is doing in anticipation of the Knowledge Graph API that is forthcoming (Hopefully before Christmas?).

Jason or others on staff might be able to divulge a few tidbits for us. :)
