I’m not sure if Free42 can handle this. I’d like a function that allows me manually drop the bottom item in the stack. I have an iPhone app named PCalc42 that does this in RPN mode as a “drop” button. But it’s only available on Apple platforms.

I don’t see anything similar in Free42. I find it handy but would prefer to use Free42 since it works in all my platforms.

I assume the HP42S didn’t have such a feature. And since Free42 is an emulator, it wouldn’t have it either. Or perhaps there’s a simple workaround with a few keystrokes?

Let know…

It sounds like you're looking for the DROP function. In the default 4STK mode, that function is not mapped to the keyboard, but you can find it in CATALOG → STK.

In NSTK mode, it replaces CLX as the action performed by the [←] key.

I get the impression the HP42S hardware doesn't support CATALOG → STK → DROP. That's based on my not being able to find it in the official HP42S docs. Either I didn't search well enough in the official HP42S docs or it's a value added feature of Free42 not found in the original HP42S hardware.

Let me know which scenario is correct.

I do have the original hardware sitting around somewhere in a box purchased in the 90s. But I much prefer using Free42 on my iPhone.

It's not an HP-42S function. Free42 has a bunch of functions in addition to the HP-42S instruction set.
