not the best week overall but Rachel is too good to go home. Diana was
really great and how long can Daniel hang in there?? The girls really have
it this year hard to predict a winner at this stage.

Diana was very good.

I really thought they would send Rachel home rather than Austin.
I certainly don't understand the argument that Austin has shown
what he can do but rachel still has things she needs to show - or
whatever nonsense Cheryl came up with.

don't you get the feeling that Louis sort of loves sending home Simon's
acts? I think Daniel should have gone this week although I think the themes
are too restrictive, they should give a bit more choice because some singers
just don't suit some themes in my opinion.

btw I didn't see you on the BB forum this year have you given up on BB?

Um, as predictable as it might have been Rachel should have sung I will
survive.
Daniel gets far too much stick and he really aint a bad singer when like the
others they get or do songs that really suit their voices/genre.

think she was actually softening the blow for Austin going by saying that he
already knows he is good but feels that Rachel has still got a lot to show
the public on the show - shocked she was in the bottom I do still believe if
she carries on doing well and not too much out of her comfort zones that she
is gonna be there to the end.

I think one of Diana, Laura and Alexandra will win this.. a lot depends on
the genre picked each week. Mariah Carey seems ludicrous to me.

In fact Austin's song was hardly disco.

Didn't Simon say to Daniel something like "this has to stop" which I took to
be a pretty strong hint that Daniel's time was up.

Austin did at least show how to take an unexpected exit. He was gracious
and spoke well and didn't go into a strop.

Well - to be honest - Daniel looks as if he would be happy to be voted off now.
He's proved what he wanted to. Now he doesn't look all that comfortable up
there.

I think back to when Steve Brookstein won (it was on this show wasn't it?)
someone voted for him then, it cant always be young girlies doing all the
voting. Look what kind of person won BB this year as well (not being
horrible) but do you know what the nice personalities might shine through
and pull in the votes even if the singing dont. - however as a nice bloke as
he is I dont think he is a candidate to entertain the audience, some of the
girls however interact great with the studio audience and if the X-Factor
is about talent as well as a singing contest then unless Daniel picks up a
bit and instead of relying on his misfortune stories to bring in the votes
and actually interacts more with the studio audience and the audience at
home watching then he could do very well.

I wonder who is going to do the 'cant live, if living is without you' number
next week - who's voice is going to be well suited to that? - Rachael maybe?

I think he will when he finds the right songs for his voice and temperament
for his age. Is it me or does his voice sound a bit like Rick Astley from
the 80's. Actually come to think of it I wouldn't mind hearing him sing a
couple of RA songs just to compare and see if I am right.
I do actually think you need an older person in the show each week like this
to balance things out a bit in amongst all the younger ones singing and
something for the older viewers to watch rather than watching all these
teenyboppers on stage (oops showing my age now!)

Spot on and make no bones about it, that vote on this weeks show was purely
tactical on Walsh's part. Genius tactical nomination by Louis it has to be
said because it evens things out a bit for him now a little bit with Simon.

The whole point as we all know of these theme nights is to challenge the
contestants and to bring them right out of their comfort zone to really see
what bottle they have. So far Ruth has it all for me.

I can see why they do it and want to see who has the all round versatility
voice to entertain people but look at all these great singers we have in the
world, take some of them out of their comfort zone and get them to sing
something not suited to their voice see if it works!

Not only that but Louis was positively frothing at the mouth at the thought
of sending Daniel home with a stinging rebuke - and then was very let down
when Daniel did not finish in the bottom two. Just look at Louis's face
when Daniel's name is called.

As for Austin, I now realise that Austin has been doing odd things like
Casualty and forming bands for years. For him X-factor was just another gig.
I reckon that's why he coped with being dumped so well. He's used to the
ups and downs of Show Biz.

Hi Ruby! Nice to hear from you again!

X-Factor is like American Idol - except that any pretence that it
is a singing contest based on impartial appraisals from professional
judges is replaced by a celebration of the perfection of Simon Cowell.

Anyway I trust you'll be voting today. :-)

Top ten reasons to vote for Obama:

1. He knows how to pronounce 'misunderestimate'

2. His running mate doesn't shoot animals from a helicopter

3. He doesn't need a nap in the afternoons

4. He knows how many houses he owns

5. He hasn't been in charge of anything big so he's got a
perfect track record

6. There is no number six

7. You can't fool him once

8. Everyone in Hollywood says he's great

9. The papers have already printed their front pages for tomorrow
and they don't want to have to change them now

... and the top reason....

10. He really 'nailed' "My Way". 'By any standard' he was
'world-class' in "The Name of The Game", and after all
this "Stormy Weather" we need a "Home Lovin' Man" who would
"Like to Teach The World To Sing".

To other regulars in this group I now return you to your regular programming.

But even Andy Abraham was trying to carve out a career as a
professional singer. He had put himself through music college and taken
part in singing contests for years before X-Factor.

I think all the finalists are semi-professional at least (with the possible
exceptions of the under-18s) and that is probably almost inevitable. If
you really want the kind of career that X-factor offers you are probably
already doing what you can to get it.

This is the irresponsible side of things. They are pumped up and made to spout
this stuff in their VT when the truth is that (a) only one of them is going

It's not a job for life by any means. I do think some of them understand
the game better than others.

So long as they do it on the live show and don't wait until recording has
finished that would be OK I think. :-)
(Extra points for taking the judges with them.)

No - but seriously - anything like that would be the end for the show, just as
it would for Big Brother.

It's God trying to kill another Bob Barr (Libertarian) voter and keep the

Yeah, well my theory on that is that Bush wanted to redistribute as much money
out of the Treasury and into the hands of his Wall Street buddies before Obama
took office so he wouldn't have any money left over to redistribute the into the
hands of Obama's Main Street buddies, pinko socialist that he is.
