So, yet another roundabout is to get the traffic lights 'solution'.
This time, the Bedhampton Roundabout under the A3(M).

Just when will the planners realise that installing traffic lights at
roundabouts actually causes more congestion, with greater tailbacks
than existed before, pollution and bad temper! Not to mention the
amount of energy that is consumed by all the lights across the country
working away 24/7!

Okay, so at peak times this is a busy roundabout and can be a
difficult one to enter. But at peak times only! Surly it cannot be too
much to ask that the lights could be,

a) Operative between 07:30 and 09:30 and 15:45 and 18:30 weekdays
only?
b) Linked to the broadmash (teardrop) lash-up to avoid tailbacks onto
each junction
c) Intelligent to traffic flow, if they can't be turned off outside
peak times, to avoid the inevitable waiting at red for 'Mr or Ms
Nobody' at 23:00!

I ask all of you who use this roundabout to observe the traffic now
and then observe it after the installation of lights. No guesses on
which will move smoother.

If anyone on this group has anything to do with highway planning in
the Portsmouth area, please take note! I don't think this will happen
though as yet another pig has just flown passed my window!
