"AN INQUEST into the deaths of two teenagers in a crash in the Mersey tunnel
was starting today.
Darren Franey and Scott Veach, both 14, were killed when the stolen car they
were in crashed in the Wallasey tunnel.
Darren's mother, Bridget Franey, of 10 Jubilee Drive, Liverpool L7 8SL,
arrived at the inquest at Liverpool coroner's court this morning. The case
is expected to last up to four weeks.
The Vauxhall Vectra, which is thought to have been driven at speeds of
around 100mph, collided into a road block set up by Mersey tunnel police.
The Police Complaints Authority launched an investigation following the
incident a year ago."
"Five officers from the Mersey tunnel police were suspended but the Crown
Prosecution Service decided they would not face criminal charges."
"The boys, from Kensington, were following another stolen Vauxhall Vectra
being driven by Paul Maguire.
Maguire, 20, from Cockburn Street, Toxteth, escaped with minor injuries
after driving through a gap in the road block.
He was sentenced to seven years detention for theft and motoring offences,
reduced to five-and-ahalf years on appeal."

"TWENTY anti-social behaviour orders have been issued in north Liverpool in
the past three years.
Six more are in the pipeline, with evidence being gathered to support action
against the yobs.
Keith Foley, who manages the north Liverpool team of the Anti-Social
Behaviour Unit, says the number is likely to carry on increasing as the unit
goes from strength to strength.
A year ago it was given a £1m grant which has helped it double its workforce
from 14 to 29. The unit has teams in north and south Liverpool.
Mr Foley said: "The issue of disorder and anti-social behaviour was flagged
up across the city in the last audit. We did some work in the Lark Hill
shops in north Liverpool which resulted in three Asbos.
"Community involvement is critical. The most successful cases are those
where we can get community support, where people are prepared to give
statements."
Last July, teen thug Daniel Franey was locked up after breaching his Asbo
for the third time.
Franey had terrorised an Asian man and his family with racist abuse and
threats to burn down their newsagent's shop.
The 14-year-old from Kensington (hmm, a bit of a pattern here) was given an
eight-month detention and training order by a youth court after admitting
harassment and breaching the order, as well as taking a motorscooter and
escaping from police custody."

All related to each other. Its not so much about the area as about the
family. The overwhelming majority of people in Kensington are law abiding,
pleasant people. I actually like living here and have lived here for about
a decade now. I could go elsewhere but I choose not to. A lot of
councillors don't live where they represent but I doand will endeavour to
continue to.

I think not, in fact the "Nation", nay the whole world was disgusted
at the sight of adults, albeit Liverpool adults, chasing after a Paddy
Wagon containing two (10 year old) juveniles in the hope of catching
and lynching them. The above attitude, although largely confined to
the Liverpool underclass, does neither Liverpool or the United Kingdom
any favours. Like Heysel and Hillsborough, the Bulger case should be
allowed to die, justice has been done (according to British law). I'm
comforted in the fact that most Britons I have met do not share the
violent tendencies of what appears to be a large number of Scousers.
My sentiment in no way mitigates the crimes of the two individuals.

can't completely prevent that so sod it. I don't think it is that likely
anyway to be honest.
Half of the street was knocked down in the 1980's due to underground streams
undermining them and people behind were given garden extensions.
Only 68 Brae Street is now occupied on the building stretch that I lived on.

Remember my comment about "getting an education". The above highlights
the pressing need. I think you may be the only one who needs
clarification: The reason for my postings is in an effort to try and
get this type of reaction, that certain people write about anything
they don't like (Venables, Thompson, et al). Calling people animals
and wanting vigilante justice for two children does Liverpool no
favours. Whenever the anniversary of this event comes around the world
press takes it cue from the local media and publishes and broadcasts
the outpouring of hate for the two young killers by Liverpudlians. And
in case you don't know it, they focus on the reaction of those locals
who bombard the local press and phone in radio shows with their hate.
The images that accompany the report is usually that of grown-ups
chasing after a Paddy Wagon containing the two in the hope of
administering "street" justice to them. Then they link Heysel and
Hillsborough. But you might think that this attitude and constant
reminders about some very dark episodes in Liverpool's recent past is
good for Liverpool's image. If this is the case I apologize for giving
you more credit than you deserve.

This isn't a Liverpudlian only trait. Calling murderers "animals" isn't
new and can be seen around the world (was used to describe those who
flew the planes into the World Trade towers in various newsgroups by
people across the world). This is an excellent example of how a better
education may help you - you wouldn't have made such an obvious mistake.

For many, this is more fear than an "outpouring of hate". However,
you've missed the point anyway. They are killers, whether they are
young or not. Would you welcome them into your home with open arms?

No-one is saying that this is appropriate. In fact, I think you will
find, AGAIN, that those who do find that acceptable are in the minority.
What doesn't do any favours are the likes of you and the media bringing
that up time and time again.

Can't say much about Heysel because I don't know what happened.
Hillsborough, however, is a different matter. It has been proved that
the Police caused the problem because the man in charge didn't like
people from Liverpool. It's not a surprise that you ignore the
outpouring of support and emotion from people in Liverpool to those that
were injured. Propaganda normally ignores the good parts.

Liverpool is a developing city, with an airport expanding faster than
any other in Europe. A business sector that is showing a massive
increase in companies coming to this region. This is not to say that we
don't have problems, because we do. Education, such as A Levels, are
lower than national average. On the other side of that, we have 3 full
universities!
No, it's not just a small minority of Liverpudlians that are causing the
bad press, it's the likes of you that twist items around to make
Liverpool look worse than it is. We are often seen as the poor relative
when compared with Manchester but, again, it's the likes of you, and the
media, that cause this especially when Liverpool has a lower crime rate
than Manchester - but facts like this are conveniently missed out. This
is the problem with society - law breakers are praised with free
education and a new life; kids who steal cars, drive 100 mph through a
tunnel and then crash are called victims and footballers can get away
with dangerous driving, GBH, drug abuse, just because they are a famous
footballer.
Jump down from your ivory tower and you'll probably see a mess on your
front door step as well.
