I went to HH from 58 to 66.
It WAS scandalous.
I believe the school was part of a dodgy deal during Derek Hattons rule in Liverpool. The school was maybe 20 or 25 years old when demolished, early 80's??. Fantastic quality building. Gym, woodwork and metalwork shops, 3 big science labs, 6 lane cinder running track and athletics oval, 2 football pitches, pavilion, lots of lovely land to make a killing from in a housing deal.
I knew one of your correspondents on this page, Alan Bennet. All the best to him/you. I remember him as a popular, happy go lucky and humorous boy, mop of blond hair. Did he know John (Joe) Baker? He was a thorn in the side of our French teacher, always larking about. So much so that he got the blame a few times for things he didn't do and the real culprits had to own up once or twice to do the honourable thing. None could compare with J Lynan though, what a character.
When my pal, Phil Ellis, was killed in a car crash (and others injured) during a party on a Saturday night shortly before A levels, a few close pals like me who had been with him were too upset to go to school on the following Monday. Couldn't face school. Eddie Dunn wouldn't let us take our exams. It took a mission of several teachers to plead and persuade him to relent. Some liked Eddie but I found him haughty, snobby and cruel. Like most schools I suppose, some of the teachers were awful but some were great.
