Beware phone calls from a US automated female voice saying "Congratulations!
You've just won a cruise to the Caribbean! To claim your prize, please press
the 9 key!"

Don't do it! Hang up right away...

"A spokesman for BT, told The Register: "The technology doesn't exist on a
BT line to make a reverse charge call by pressing a single button."

But it does obviously ring another number, as with 'press 3' to return a
call with Virgin Media..that return call could be a premium rate number.?

It still sounds like the old hoax. Where did you see it ?

For return call on BT you have to dial 1471 first , then it's 3 not 9.
Virgin is the same.

I experienced the call and hung up immediately.

Of course, I just wondered if folk would activate a return call - to a
premium rate number - by pressing 9?

I did a google - there seems to be a spate of it recently; some reports
say #9

I don't think it returns a call , but just alerts a human operator
who'll try and con you I suppose.

You cannot ring a number just by pressing 9. Especially if someone is
currently calling you!
