Why is it that there is such a shortage of kittens at the moment...? the
internet classifieds and all freead papers, loot, freead mart, diamond freeads
etc... seem to have so few tabby kittens for sale, there are pages and pages
of people wanting kittens especially for females? I bought my first
beautiful pure black part siamese kitten five years ago this time of year
and had no problem whatsoever with finding him,in fact the lady I got him
from wanted no money, she even asked if I wanted a silver tabby also for
free!
This year there seems to be a never ending supply of dogs and puppies for
sale in all the classifieds I have browsed through,in one paper I counted
around 50 ads for puppies and only 5 for kittens.
I am looking to buy a kitten this spring/summer and am a little negative
that I may not have the same choice I had 5 years ago, am I right?

why not check out your local cat sanctuary or cats protection?

I would recommend getting one of the thousands of "homeless" adult cats
languishing in various RSPCA centres round the country, rather than
supporting the unnecessary breeding of yet more cats.

No offence to you at all, just my opinion...

> Dear Emma,

Why not try contacting your local Cat Protection, RSPCA Centre or advertise
in local vets or pet shops or even put you own in ad in your local
newsapaper. Incidentally its is a bit early in the year for new kittens.
Better to wait until late April to start looking.

Best of luck,

There aren't many kittens usually looking for homes at this time of
year as cats don't breed in winter, season is from mid January to
September, there is always the odd litter but no where near the
numbers as in summer.
Cat has heat in mid January produces kittens end of March which means
come May there are kittens everywhere looking for homes.

I have a two year old female who is desperately looking for a new home.

It is my Grandma's cat and unfortunately she has had a stroke and will not
be able to look after "Poppy"

If there is anyone who can help we can deliver her.....we are on the Wirral
in Merseyside.

Thanks

Julie

This is due to the great work done by the various cat charities who put a
lot of funds into free/low cost
neutering schemes. It is evident in my area as crossbred kittens are very
unusual to find now,the local cat charities
will all say that kittens are virtually never appearing at the centres.
Maybe if the same schemes were put into practice for dogs it would help with
the number of unwanted dogs in
this country.
So enough of me,good look with your restricted kitten hunt !!
(PS I would have leapt at the chance of a silver tabby!)
Always in the wrong place!

While it's true that all the neutering schemes are producing some good
results, I'm afraid this isn't the reason that kittens aren't around
much now. The reason is that it's not kitten season.

The queens are coming into oestrus now, so kittens will appear in
roughly a couple of months.

My god, where are these places? I've been associated with cat rescue
for over 40 years and last year everyone I know in cat rescue across the
country was saying that it was the worst year they'd ever known for
unwanted litters. There were so many homeless kittens that we were
passing them around among the shelters to try to get them all homed.

Seriously, please let me know (by email if necessary) where your local
cat charities are.
