I glimpsed the animal last night for about five seconds on the pavement
outside my house. Once it saw me however it made its exit. It was the
size of a smallish dog and very thin. It had a rather long thinnish
tail that swept down to the ground and almost lay flat parallel to the
ground at the end. The sodium lamps in the street didn't help to make
out any colour. If it was a fox I would have expected to see ears
prominently sticking up from its head but I could not make out any. The
barking sound it made was rather odd to my ear - but then I've never
heard a fox bark. It was the kind of unpleasant honking-choking sound I
imagine I might make if I had swallowed some food down the wrong way and
was trying desperately to cough it up.
So was it a fox - or just some local mutt out for a night time prowl?
