Hi,

Can anyone advise, please?

I recently cleaned the thick glass front on my gas fuelled fire. It was just
a little grimey so I took a mildly damp cloth to it. The glass came up a
treat!

But..
after only a few hours use there was a thick covering of soot on the glass.
This was much worse than the original problem which had taken 18 months to
build up.

I have tried using a vacuum cleaner to remove any excess soot which I may
have disturbed in the first place but the soot deposit always returns just a
few hours later.

Is the positioning of the artificial logs important? As I believe I have not
replaced them in the precise positions that I first found them in.

Or could this be a poor air/gas/moisture mixture?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Thank you for the replies.

All replies advised the same solution. This amounted roughly to "Get a
professional in. Niave DIY on this may kill".

I did get a professional corgi registered bloke to check it out. He serviced
it and now it's fine.
He said the problem could have been caused by misplacement of artificial
logs or it could have been something a little more sinister.
Thirty quid was all he charged to provide me and the missus with a nice
clean gas flame and lots of peace of mind.

Thanks all.

Got the answer to your problem. Today, 2nd February, there are series
of online chats about gas problems in the home with an expert from
British Gas!!!

London time :
1.30pm members only AOL
3pm www.bluecarrots.co.uk and www.buy.co.uk
4pm www.thesite.org and www.ukparents.co.uk

Check one of these out - apparently he can answer any queries about gas
issues - especially the problems of carbon monoxied leaks etc.

Hope this is helpful. I'm going to the chat at some point- will look
out for your questions.

Regards, Gillian
