Has anyone any experience of removing old paint from a Victorian marble
fireplace. Will Nitromors or a heat gun damage it?

I have an old slate fireplace that I am stripping. I contacted a slate mine
(via e-mail!) and they recommended a place called Extensive
(www.extensive.co.uk) who deal with products for stone and marbles etc. They
sold me a product to take off the paint, and fingers crossed, it's doing a
great job.

Hope that helps!

Whatever you do, don't produce any dust and don't breathe any fumes. It'll
very likely be lead paint.

The toxic effect of lead on adults is much over-hyped. It's main effect is on
the brain development of children, so as long as you don't eat the stuff or
sniff it like cocaine it will not affect you disastrously. Wear a dust mask
and vacuum up well afterwards. If you've got small children, send them off to
visit friends or relatives for the day...
