I have to replace a short stretch -- about 6 panels -- of fencing in my back
garden because the posts are rotting at the bottom. The panels themselves
are in pretty good shape it's just the posts. In order to stop this
happening again I am thinking of using concrete posts, and there seem to be
2 types - this is where I would like to hear from others who have tried this
method.

The one type is a shorter concrete post that has the normal wooden type post
bolted on to it -- so that the wooden post doesn't come into contact with
the ground, obviously. The second type requires no wooden post but has slots
which the panels are fitted into.

I'm not sure which is best, anyone got any advice? I have heard that the the
panels can -- and do -- blow out of the slotted type in strong winds.

Thanks

Use the one with slots. It all hinges on setting them exactly. If you
do this properly, the panels just drop into the slots.

And the wind bends the panel in the middle then it falls out

Which is what I'd heard.

Mine has been up for over 15 years through many winds with no problem using
slotted concrete. The only thing to watch out for is that they will
probably be a different thickness to wood and, therefore, the position will
move as you go further along.

We have concreet sloted posts withe concreeet gravel boards and wooden
panels (6Ft) on top and have had no problems with them blowing out
even though the fence runs north to south and its all open field
behind the house. The concret over hands the panels by a good 2" and
thats a hell of a bend to free it.
