Exactly - I now refuse to buy a cleaning product that's named after a STD !

Oh we weren't having a go at you - you just used the correct name for it
Al's point was that because some other countries couldn't say Jif, we all
had to change to Cif - and it is a stupid name
Let's face it, "Snickers" has only just got accepted ;o)

Has it ... ?

Well, that's what I figured ... though I suppose it depends _how_ you
say it ... ;-)

I thought they changed the name Jif to Cif because there was already a product
called Jif - that lemon juice stuff in a squeezy yellow plastic lemon.

Had a similar problem and eventually used Solvol Autosol, it's
a relatively mild abrasive that you can get from car accessory
shops, Halfords etc.
This, and using water as a lubricant worked pretty good on a
SS sink although it may not work with your oven - you should
first try it on a part of the hob that's not visible just to make
sure that it'll be ok and not make things worse.
