We have a sealed central heating system using a Vaillant combi boiler.
The system pressure on startup is set to 1.2 bar and when the central
heating is operating, the pressure rises to 1.8 bar. Although the pressure
gauge has a red line at 2.5 bar and the pressure relief valve (PRV) is
nominally 3 bar, it is obvious from the amount of water being discharged
outside from the overflow pipe that the PRV is faulty.
This results in a fall in pressure to 0.2 bar when the central heating is
turned off and the need to top up the water.
My question is: - what are the steps an expert would take to renew the
pressure relief valve?
Must the system be emptied?
Thanks.
