I think that Vincent would have nothing to fear from this - looks like it
was painted by a six year old :-)

But I thought all his stuff looks as if it was painted by a child

The oldest woman in France, who died at the age of 102 a few years ago,
remembered VG coming into her mother's shop.
When asked for her memories of him she said he was very smelly and rude.

There are quite a few people who make it to 102. The oldest woman, Jeanne
Calment, made it to 122, partly because she gave up smoking at 95.

Did she happen to remark "What's this 'ere then" :-).

Interestingly (or perhaps not), VG cut off the lower half of his left ear
and took it to a brothel where he gave it (the ear) to a prostitute named
Rachel for safe keeping. One theory for this self-mutilation was a conflict
over homosexual impulses aroused by the presence of Gauguin. According to
this account, the ear was a phallic symbol (the Dutch slang word for penis,
lul, resembled the Dutch word for ear, lel), and the act was a symbolic
self-castration. There are, however, many other theories. My own is that
he was a nut-case, similar to those who indulge in similar self-mutilation,
such as body piercings & tattoos.

It's too hot to sleep, but I'll give it a go.

Terry D.

Maybe he had wax in his ear. It can be extremely annoying.
