Accordingly, Ryanair will remove its £10/€10 airport check-in fee and
introduce a £5/€5 online check-in fee per person, per flight, on new
bookings, other than promotional fares (fares of ?Free?, ?€1? and ?€5? will
include web check-in on a free of charge basis), while a €40/£40 ?boarding
card re-issue fee? will be introduced to encourage all passengers to arrive
at the airport with their pre-printed web check-in boarding card.
Ryanair?s Stephen McNamara said:
?Passengers travelling without checked in bags have already embraced our
online check-in service and the extension of this service to all
passengers, including those with hold luggage and those travelling with
infants will allow all passengers to forever avoid check-in queues. This
will also allow Ryanair to lower our airport and handling costs and pass
these savings to all passengers in the form of even lower air fares next
winter.
?Ryanair?s web check-in service allows passenger to check-in from 15 days
to 4 hours before, and print, or re-print, their boarding card up to 40
minutes prior to their scheduled departure time. Web check-in can be
accessed via ryanair.com using booking confirmation numbers or flight
details?.
Hmm, so pax travelling with no hold luggage who could previously check in
online for free now have to pay ソス5?
Say they carry 60m pax a year and all pay ソス5 for online check-in which
actually costs the company nothing at all once the system is up and
running - which it already is. That's a guaranteed revenue of ソス300m, all of
it pure profit.

So they are going to reduce other charges or parts of the fare's make-up by
more than the new ソス5? Yeah right.
I suppose it's good in a way for PIK. They can remove all but one of the
check-in desks (A Wizz Air "exclusive") and board up that half of the
terminal. That will save some costs on cleaning, electricity and upkeep...

Will that charge not have to be advertised as part of the fair, seeing as it
is an unaviodable cost? Was there not a thing recently where one of the
charter carriers was made to change their advertising because the advertised
fare did not include a special charge (I think it was maybe a security
charge) that all pax had to pay? In this case all pax will have to pay the
check-in charge, so it should be part of the advertised fare.
They will also loose a lot of money on this as well as FR will not have to
pay for the desks and other associated services. What a total joke.
This is just another example of why FR get right up my nose. I do
recognise they serve a growing market and are a valuable asset to the
local economy but it is just another example of the O'Leary disregard
for playing fair. If he just tagged it on to the prices no-one would
bat an eyelid but these hidden charges are taking the piss and he
continues to get away with it.Anyway I thought online check-in was
supposed to save the airline money enabling the saving to be passed on
to the customer? Just another one of his hidden fuel surcharges if you
ask me.

>Crawford
Oh but MOL does not do fuel surcharges....tut tut tut for you even to dare
suggest that. Remember its still free to have a shit on his aircraft...(for
now)
A friend of mine recently flew to Ireland on RYR, but was NOT allowed
to check in on line as they hold a Canadian Passport and was charged
£20 each way at PIK for the privilege of checking in for their
flight..... so I assume that its now OK for non EU passengers to
check in on line?
What a bollocks of the system Ryanair make.
Tom Wylie
Online check-in was free as we booked a few weeks back. However even
adding that cost it would have been less than £50 all in.
While it's easy to get annoyed with the sneeky charges, Canadian
passport was a bit much though, Ryanair have some good deals to be
had.
Even if I'd suffered the non EU passport scam it would have still cost
us only £107.80 return!! For two!!.
With regard to our weekend.
Flight out arrived early about 70% full.
Krakow is well worth a visit. Bit like a mini Prague. Recommend the
trip to the salt mine.
Didn't see any empty seats on the return flight which was early into
PIK.
Inflight food and drink is pretty expensive, not that you have to
purchase anything. Prices in Euros with GBP at 1 to 1 conversion.
Anyway, if you don't like Ryanair don't use them.
Mike
Your post highlights just what I was saying Mike. His fares are great
for the folk who book in advance so why the need for the stupid extra
charges? FR aren't the only ones right enough. According to a report
out the EU are telling FR as well as FlyBe and Easyjet to clean up
their act regarding hidden charges.

I don't..........
John
I'd recommend a weekemd in Krakow. Much easier with Ryanair.
Mike
Whyever not? The majority of times they are excellent ... you need to
get over yourself ...
With BA you'd just spend all weekend travelling ... and paying through
the nose for the 'privilige'.
Bartek,
I will fly with whoever I want to fly with. Dont dare tell me to get over
myself about it. Why dont you get over the fact that some folk just dont
want to use Ryanair for various reasons.
John, I'm perfectly aware that a number of folk choose not to use
them, and I have a strong suspicion of the reasons behind that
decision for some .... however, I believe they are wrong, and will
continue to argue that view in a free and open discussion forum, thank
you very much.
