Hillary Clinton raises Tibet self-immolations issue with Chinese FM

Washington: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed
America's concerns over the increasing instances of self-immolations in
Tibet and violations of human rights at a meeting with her Chinese
counterpart Yang Jiechi, according to a top State Department official.
"The Secretary, as she always does, raised human rights concerns –
notably in this particular meeting, concerns about Tibet and increasing
pace of immolations," the official said after Clinton's met Yang on the
sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.
Besides, the top diplomats both the nations discussed a wide range of
issues including, island dispute between China and Japan, South China
Sea, Iran, Syria, the official said on the condition of anonymity.
"They talked about bilateral economic relations and the global financial
situation. The secretary again urged some of the cases of concerns,
including FedEx, be dealt with on the
Chinese side," the official said.
Reiterating that China and Japan need to resolve their island dispute
through dialogue, Clinton urged her Chinese counterpart for cool headed
approach, official said.
"The secretary, as she has been urging for a number of months, including
when she was in China in the summer and when she was at APEC and had a
chance to see (Japanese) Prime Minister (Yoshihiko) Noda, again urged
that cooler heads prevail, that Japan and China engage in dialogue to
calm the waters, that we believe that Japan and China have the
resources, have the restraint, have the ability to work on this directly
and take tensions down," the official said.
"They also talked about Iran in preparation for the P-5+1 minus Iran
meeting this afternoon, and about the two-track strategy of diplomacy
and pressure."
