Being a Scientologist requires an ability to forget the past. It requires, as Orwell put it, "an unending series of victories over your own memory."
Hubbard announced SuperPower in 1978. Not that he was "working on it" but that it was an accomplished fact, all done and ready to roll out "in the next 6 weeks." He giddily announced that a team of auditors were in training to deliver it. What happened? Nothing.
It's been 35 years since that announcement. Thirty-five years. People have been born, grown up, went to college, got married and started families since that announcement.
They broke ground on the wonderful "SuperPower Building" 15 years ago. I toured the empty shell in 2002. They've raised the entire amount to complete that building several times over. Still not done. Still not open.
I heard about all of the Disneyland machines back when I was still in the Sea Org. They were being built and tested then. And Miscavige briefed us that the fancy machines, the big building, all that, was just window dressing. "SuperPower is 95% marketing:" he told us. And we see from Dan Koon's writeup that the actual substance is another bunch of boring, repetitive, mind-numbing "processes."
And what does the Church now say? They keep telling the faithful that it's a superfantastic rundown that will give people superpowers and they have a bunch of auditors in training to deliver it. In other words, exactly what Hubbard said in 1978. 35 years ago.
How long does it take for people to realize they've been conned?
