Hi,

Just looking for some advice.

I recently purchased Norton AntiVirus 2006 to protect my PC after I
reformatted. I previously used 2003 Pro and decided it was time to upgrade.

I installed the program without a problem, and have applied all the updates
to it via live update.

As a firewall I used ZoneAlarm Pro. I ran this side-by-side with Norton
2003 without a problem. I downloaded the trial version of the new version
of the firewall, as the previous version was not compatible with SP2 (to
which I have also upgraded). This also installed without a problem, however
on restarting the computer, it was obvious they were conflicting somehow.
ZoneAlarm started up after the PC froze for almost 10 minutes, but Norton
would not appear. Forcing it to start by double-clicking its desktop icon
made the main window appear, but the main pane was blank.

On removing both Norton and ZoneAlarm from the startup I was able to boot
the computer normally. I have since removed ZoneAlarm from the PC and the
computer has functioned normally, however this has left me without a
firewall solution.

Has anyone else come across this kind of problem between these two programs,
and if so, how did you resolve it?

Many thanks in advance of any assistance.

Andi

Norton's antivirus and get a better program...

The 2007 version was made to be incompatible with any other companies

Norton wants it all your whole wallet in his bank account!!!

I say we send norton a clear message that his evil ways are bad and
BOYCOTT his software!!!

Down with Greedy Norton!!!

i suspect this bltzkrieg policy --- competitor incompatibility, abandoning

begs question: who, in fact benefits from these decisions?, certainly not

I have to agree. I have recently changed to Eset NOD32 and am very
impressed with it. It is quick, does not seem to slow the computer
down very much and scans my emails.

The A/V I used tended to get destroyed quite often. The tech support
response was to simply re-install. I do not believe that the
antivirus should be so delicate that a virus could blow it away.

I have just installed Nortons internet security 2007 for a customer
and it seems good but I am having trouble with his emails. He is
using Outlook Express and if I attach a jpg file then I get an error
message that his mail server does not like his email address.
I am sure it is tied up with his firewall but I need to do a bit more
research to see what settings I need to alter.

I am using Norton A/V 2008. Runs beautifully in background with what
appears to be very little memory drain ( a first for Norton). I had some
minor problems with Zone Alarm basic firewall (free) that related more to
switching networks at home and work. I changed to PC Tools free firewall
and everything runs smoothly now. PC Tools and Norton seem more compatible.
I did originally have trouble installing Norton and there tech support
people doubled my subscription. I now have about 7 months left. I will
have to see what is available at that time.
