Israeli warplanes hit Gaza after rocket attack

Israeli aircraft attacked at least four targets in the
Hamas-run Gaza Strip early on Saturday, wounding two people
in retaliation for a rocket strike on Israel, officials
said.

Two explosions were heard in Gaza City, one north of the
city and one in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Yunis.
Palestinian medics and witnesses said all the missiles
appeared to land in open fields.

Two people, including a child, were lightly wounded, medics
said.

An Israeli military spokesman said warplanes had attacked
two tunnels militants were digging in the direction of
Israel, apparently to infiltrate the country and carry out
attacks.

Israel routinely retaliates after rocket attacks from Gaza,
and the latest air strikes came after a rocket hit the
southern town of Netivot on Thursday without causing
casualties.

"We will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the calm in
Israel's southern communities," the spokesman said.

It marked the latest violence along Gaza's border, which has
been mostly quiet since a war Israel launched on the
Islamist Hamas in Gaza on December 27, 2008 in response to
rocket fire ended with mutual ceasefires on January 18.

The ceasefires have largely held, despite violations by both sides.

Israeli forces attack Gaza Strip

Israeli warplanes and tanks have carried out attacks across
the Gaza Strip, damaging residential areas and leaving four
Palestinians wounded.

The airstrikes which targeted residential areas in northern
and central Gaza Strip, caused panic among children in the
region, a Press TV correspondent reported on Friday.

Witnesses said Israeli F16 fighters fired two missiles and
Israeli tanks fired two shells that landed at empty areas
east and northeast of Gaza City, DPA reported.

Local ambulances took the wounded from eastern Gaza to
hospital for medical treatment, according to medical
sources.

An Israeli army spokesman confirmed the attacks, but gave no
further details, AFP reported.

Following the airstrikes, Israeli warplanes were still
hovering about the strip, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The attacks were reminiscent of Israel's three-week-long
onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which was launched in late
December 2008 and continued into the New Year.

More than 1,400 Palestinians were killed during the 2008-
2009 Israeli land, sea and air offensive in the Gaza Strip
which also devastated a large part of the infrastructure,
inflicting about USD 2 billion in damage on the Gazan
economy.

Israeli jets bomb Gaza smuggling tunnels
Published: Jan. 2, 2010 at 8:00 AM

GAZA, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Israeli jets have bombed suspected
Palestinian smuggling tunnels in the northern Gaza Strip,
military officials said.

The Israeli military said the Air Force Friday carried out
air strikes on tunnels intended to smuggle terrorists into
Israel, Ynetnews.com reported, saying the tunnels had been
dug less than a mile from the border fence.

Unnamed sources in Gaza told the Web site the jets attacked
a rocket-launching cell, allegedly missing its crew but
injuring four people.

The sources also said a group of Hamas supporters were
bombed in the Khan Younis area, with another strike
reportedly carried out in the eastern part of Gaza City.

The air strikes came after two mortars were fired from
northern Gaza towards Israel's Negev desert earlier in the
day, Ynetnews.com said.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light:
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
