key fob remote control -central locking

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice here, my son has a Clio (98 - S - reg model) the
cars been in the family for about a year, and Ive done a couple of jobs on
it like brakes, fuel flap etc.
Anyway last year the key had broken in the ignition my partner managed to
get the bits out and luckly for us we had a spare key, last night I decided
to fit the key into the the fob that had the "broken key bits" still stuck
in it.
I prised open the central locking FOB (the battery is in need for renewal -
one on order) when I put it back together the damn thing doesnt work, I am
now wondering if I am going to have to get this reprogrammed has anyone any
ideas??

press vehicle central lock button for more than 2 secs. doors should lock
and then unlock, immobiliser led should light, press lock/unlock on fob, led
should go off. fob should then work.
other problems with fobs I often see are the battery pins broken off.

Ive now renewed batteries (key fob) - its doing my head in!!!!!!!!!!!!!
