The Kink Aware Professionals Referrals list is a resource that
many of us may sometimes have a use for.

There is a new webpage (parts still under construction) for the
KAP list. It's at http://www.bannon.com/kap

The List is now only available via the web, so some of the following
is OBE (Overtaken By Events), but it perhaps best explains the purpose
of the KAP list.

From: Race Bannon <72114...@CompuServe.COM>
Newsgroups: alt.sex.bondage
Subject: Kink Aware Professionals Referrals
Date: 10 Apr 1995 18:16:21 GMT
Message-ID: <3mbsll$n7$1...@mhadg.production.compuserve.com>

NEW KINK COMMUNITY SERVICE

If you are kinky and in need of professional
counseling or medical attention, it is often difficult
to find someone who is both a qualified practitioner
and sensitive to your erotic choices. Some
psychotherapists wrongly assume anyone into kinky sex
must necessarily be disturbed. Similarly, medical
doctors presented with a bruised butt or back will
often assume some type of physical abuse has taken
place. In such cases, ignorance on the part of the
professional can lead to a troublesome arrangement.
Misdiagnosis of the actual problem can also be a result
of this unfortunate set of circumstances.
Since such situations often occur, a new non-profit
service is now being offered to make it easier to find
psychotherapeutic, medical, dental and alternative
healing professionals who understand and accept
alternative sexuality. The new service, called "Kink
Aware Professionals" ("KAP" for short), provides a
listing of such professionals who are aware and
accepting of kinky sexuality.
Any psychotherapeutic, medical, dental or
alternative healing (chiropractors, acupuncturists,
hypnotherapists, massage therapists, etc.) professional
wishing to have clients referred to their practice are
encouraged to send their contact information to:
Kink Aware Professionals (or "KAP")
c/o Race Bannon
584 Castro Street, Suite 518
San Francisco, CA 94114
OR
Send e-mail to:
72114...@compuserve.com

[For email, use ra...@bannon.com]

Upon receiving the professional's information in
writing or via e-mail the information is added to the
listing and is made available to those requesting the
listing. Listings typically include the professional's
name, credentials, address and phone number along with
a very brief description of the services they offer.
To be included in the listing a professional must
accept that adults have the right to engage in all safe
and consensual erotic behavior. This includes all
styles of kinky sexuality, not just leather/SM/fetish
play. Professionals need not be involved in kinky
sexuality themselves. Professionals included in the
listing are also encouraged to become familiar with
kinky sexuality of all kinds. Community members knowing
of such professionals are also encouraged to solicit
their participation in KAP.
Anyone in the United States or Canada wishing to
receive the listing of kinky-friendly professionals
should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope (use two
32 cent stamps, more if sent from Canada) to the same
address listed above. You will be sent the most current
listing of professionals in the United States and
Canada. A listing can also be obtained by sending an
e-mail message to KAP at the e-mail address listed
above.
Since Kink Aware Professionals is privately funded,
costs must be kept low. Therefore, all communications
must take place via pre-paid mail or electronic e-mail.
This applies to both professionals wishing to be
included in the listing and those wishing a copy of the
listing.
It is hoped that the Kink Aware Professionals
referral service will allow members of the kinky
community to develop professional relationships with
those who understand their sexuality.
