Lately several people have started to grow tired of this situation and
decided to put an end to it by doing, as much as possible, everything
by themselves. In Catalonia, for example, many households are connected
to each other and to the Internet thanks to a Wireless Community Network (WCN):
this is nothing else but a telecom network which is designed, installed
and managed by local citizens and technicians which work side by side
with their public administrations. Besides providing a service, WCNs
also create local jobs, from shops selling the necessary hardware to
technicians who install and configure it.

Umbria is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy, and everybody loves great traditional food and clean air. Sure, you'll say, but what this has to do with Linux? Well, the fact that and the Park of Renewable Energy (PeR) have teamed up to create a great package.
Binario Etico is a trashware cooperative, which uses Free Software to save computers from the landfills. The PeR is a beautiful guesthouse built and managed with zero emission principles, serving meals prepared with locally produced organic foods.
A goal unique to INGOTs is to not just teach notions, but to promote active citizenship, community service and good practices. INGOTs rewards students who make a valuable public contribution in an area of their interest. As an example, INGOTs students must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of Free, Open Source software, and the Gold INGOTs certification requires several hours of community service, for example contributing in some way to the OpenOffice.org project (read the Linux.com article to know more about INGOTs and Free software).

very concrete reasons which are partly already explained in the "legal
info" page linked from the bottom of each page, copies of WHOLE
articles from that website are not permitted anywhere else online, be
it a blog, a mailing list, Facebook, whatever, even . Whereas excerpts
with links, as James did, are welcome and appreciated, AND (unlike
most other websites) printing the same articles to hand them out as
flyers to people you meet in person at a fair, congress, meeting,
whatever, is allowed and also encouraged!
